Thime attending were Chuck Ithoads, Steve Straughan, Boh Holmes, Jr., Jim liiirrl. L. D, Vinson, Mike Holt sclaw, Bill Richard. John Wil liams, Roland Merklln, liren Lueiire, Howard (Jable, Henry Dahlll, and Martha Matteson. At the first of the meeting, Dahlll presented a placiue to Jim Harrla for work done be yond hla line of duty. There were talks about the different tool used In fighting fires; how lo make them Into a pack to carry on ones back, weighing about .'15 lb. A color movie waa shown, based on camping experiences of two young ludles who exper ienced a fire at their camp. Cor rect ways of putting out fires In the woods and with chemi cals were shown. After the meeting a nice lunch was served under the shade trees by Mrs. Duliill and her daughter, Naomi. Mrs. Darlene Buyer, daughter LaVelle and Muynard Hamilton drove to Spray Sunday morning for church serviced. Ellen Moore returned home Sunday evening from Prlnevllle where she had spent two weeks at the home of her granddaugh ter and family. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ariel Cork and children. She accompanied Stanley Boy er who was coining home from taking his sons, Jimmy and Jerry, and Emery Mixire to Ver nonla for the School of Sports, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Neal and children spent the week-end near Granite. Visitors at the Frank Willi ams home were his folks from Idaho and his son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Williams Heppner Hosts Kinzua Golfers Br VIRGINIA KELSO KINZUA The Kinzua men and women golfers made their annual trek to Heppner on Sun day to exchange shot with the Willow ("reek club and battle for the Gribble-Schroeder tro phy, symbol of superiority be tween the two clubs. By a medal score of 749 to 742, the Klnzualtes were able of San Jose, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ferrel and son of Camp 5 stopped en route to John Day on a busi ness trip on Friday. Ben Spain traveled to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where he took Mike and Steve Thomas to vis It their grandmother. The boys had spent five weeks here at his home. They will return to their home In Bountiful, Utah, after a week In Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. LeKoy Buxton and son took his mother to the John Day hospital on Friday evening. Mrs. Henry and son Ronny moved to Mt. Vernon last week. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Williams of Long Creek spent the week end here with his folks, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Williams, and his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Williams and children, here from San Jose, Calif. to maintain their hold on the trophy and sec that It still rests In Its proper place In the Kin zua Club house. The Willow Creek course was found to be In excellent condit ion and with good, hot weather prevailing, some fine golf was displayed by many of the de votees of the sport. A noon buf fet luncheon was served by the ladles of the Willow Creek club and the usual hospitality was shown by the hosts throughout the day. When the final accounting had been completed and all scores checked, honors were picked up by several Kinzua swingers: Low gross, Harlan Schroeder and Milt Boring tied; low net, Harlan Schroeder: long drive, Verlln Conner ana Don Mct'onnell; closest to the pin: Wayland Hyatt. For the Kinzua ladles, low gross was won by Lavlna Con ner and low net by Arlene Schroedei. Eight members of the Kinzua Golf Club will wend their way to La Grande this coming week end to participate In the annual La Grande Elks tournament. This affair has proven to be one of the finest in the state with more than 100 Elks members from Oregon, Washington and Idaho taking part. HEPPNER GAZETET-TIMES. Thursday. The season just completde was one of the most successful experi enced by Kinzua teams for many years. Neither team drop ped a game and several con tests were complete shut-outs.
