The young couple left for Portland where they will make their home. The new Mrs. Mill er chase for traveling a pink linen sheath with matching on nt and white accessories. The dinner consisted of a variety of dishes prepared with herbs. For roll call, members were asked to tell what their dlshea were and the herb used to season It, and If possl b 1 e give the recipe, Mrs. Meiiker served as instal ling officer during ceremonies following the dinner. Officers for the coming ytar are Mrs. C. ('. Jones, chairman; Mrs. Carry Tullis, vice-chairman; Mrs, Jim Johnson, secretary, and Mrs. Bill Rawlins, treasurer. It was announced that Mrs. OmHr Itletmann would attend the state convention In Klam ath Falls as a delegate, and Mrs. F. T. Martin as the sec ond delegate. Karen French Chosen For Jackson Award Karen French, daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Raymond French, was notified this week that she had been selected to receive a Jackson Foundation Scholarship In the amount of $1,000 to be used for the academic year V.m 67 at Oregon State Univer sity. Miss Franeh waa valedic torian of the 16 Heppner High school graduating class. The scholarship will replace the state partial fee and tuition award granted to her at the time of graduation. The Jackson Foundation was founded by the late Mrs. Maria C. Jackson, widow of C. S. Jack son, founder of the Oregon Journal. Scholarship recipients are selected by a special Foun dation Scholarship committee, based on achieving outstanding scholastic record and display of characteristics which would lead to high-quality college work. Mr. and Mrs. Alrin Wade and daughter of Cheyenne, Wyo., visited with Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Neill from Saturday until Tuesday. Mrs. Wade la a sis ter of Mrs. Neill. Emory Craw ford of Clarkston, Wn., came Monday for an indefinite stay with the Nellls. He Is a brother of Mrs. Neill and father of Rita Thorpe of Heppner. Wolff Home Visited By Sister Salvador, Vacationer from East Dr. and Mrs. Wallace Wolff and family and J. T. Falardeau had as a visitor the past week Mr. Falardeau'a daughter and Mrs. Wolff's sister. Sister Salva dor, from Chicago. She arrived Monday, June 13, by plane and left for Chicago Tuesday, June 21, by train. Sister Salvador Is a member of the order of Dominican Sis ters of Slnslnawa, Wisconsin, and teaches at Visitation High School In Chicago. Her high school has 800 students and Is combined with a grade school of 2000 students. The family took trips to Mt. Hood driving around the Mt Hood Loop highway and to the woods above Willow Creek to pick mushrooms. Sister Salva dore had not seen her father during the three years since he moved to Heppner and had nev er seen the two youngest Wolff children, Cathy and Tommy. Elks Plan Annual Day of Outdoor Fun Committees of Heppner Elks Lodge No. 358 are busy this week preparing for the annual family picnic, planned for Sun day, June 26, at Cutsforth Park. Hot dogs and coffee will be fur nished, with families asked to bring picnic food and table service for the noon meal. A large variety of outdoor games and recreation for all ages Is planned for the after noon, according to Haskell Shar- rard, social chairman. Elks members are asked to come and bring their family for a day of fun In the mountain air. Parents Identified Parents of Miss Ronnie Belsma, a gratuate this year at OSU, were incorrectly Identified In a news release of last week. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon O'Brien of Route 2, Hep pner, and was among those re ceiving a bachelor's degree at OSU graduation exercises June 5. Visitors brought by tha Ion School Reunion were Mr. and Mrs. Joel Barnett and children. Randy, 12, Roger, 10, and Jo Jean, 7, of Vancouver Wn. Bar nett, a 1950 graduate of lone High school visited with his parents and brother, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Barnett and Jim over the week-end, and then return ed to Seattle where he will be working for the Boeing Compa ny. Mrs. Barnett, the former Marlene Duran, and children re mained to be with her aunts, Mrs. Ada Piper and Mrs. Pete McMurtry and her grandmother, Mrs. Nina Stonefleld who Is in Pioneer Memorial hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Ray E. Smith ant family moved over the weekend to La Grande Where he Is err ployed as a printer for the East ern Oregon Review, weekly newspaper there. Son Tim plans to remain In Heppner to continue high school here. Mrs. Smith and four of their children spent last week in Portland and the coast on a vacation trip. They visited Mrs. Smith's sister in Portland The Smith's address in La Grande U 902 Z Street. I ONE Mr. and Mrs. Keith Rea helped his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fran cis Rea, move to Portland. They returned home last Thursday, bringing Donna and Darcle Rea, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Rich ard Rea, to lone for the sum mer. They lived for 10 years on Butter Creek before moving to Dufur and then to The Dalles. Mrs. Gardner Is their onlv child.
