Heppner's jayvees had all they could handle against the scrap py Wahtonka club January 31. The, hometown boys took an eight-point lead at intermission, 28-20. Scott (Tall Timber) Barratt pumped in 23 points and Sam Strait helped the march to vic tory with 16. Fine shooting and ball control kept the Mustangs just out of reach of the fighting Eagles to take the win. In the February 4 contest the Mustangs traveled to Athena to play a much weaker club than the previous game. The little Mustangs were never In trouble as they ran up a 36-13 half tirnei score and coasted from there to victory. The two wins boost their record to eight wins and four losses. Barratt led the team in scor ing for the two games with a total of 37 points. Mike Brice took the honors home for the Eagle jayvees with 26. Highpoint man for Athena's jayvees was Irving with 13. Gun Club to Start Shoot-offs Sunday Mtmbers of the Morrow Coun ty Gun club will meet for their first shoot off Sunday in par ticipation in the annual State Junior Telegraphic Shoot. Any one interested is welcome to join the dub at its grounds near Heppner on Sunday, starting at 1:00 p.m. The local club is one of 22 clubs over the state signed up so far to compete in the state meet in Portland sometime in April. Scores will accumulate over the next six Sundays for qual ifying for state competition. Students Raise Heppner high school students raised approximately $330 dur ing their recent March of Dimes drive. The money was raised on a competition basis, with each class seeing how much it could raise and, at the same time, if it could beat other classes in amount raised. Each class selected a king and a queen candidate for a dance which terminated the drive Jan uary 31. The class which rais ed the greatest amount of funds got the pleasure of seeing its candidates crowned rulers of the dance. The classes improvised many ways to raise funds for the ben efit. Various sales were held and the students worked hard to back their candidates. The Don Turner ranch, Paul Jones ranch and Barratt ranches furnished the students with some articles which were sold, such as a lamb and a goose. When all the action was over, the freshmen had won the com petition by beating out their nearest competitors, the senior class, by three cents, $88.46 to $88.43. The freshmen candidates, Ver ina French, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond French, and Tony Schiller, son of Mr. and Mrs, Robert Schiller, were crowned queen and king, respectively, of the dance which followed the Heppner High-Wahtonka High basketball game.
