ELEANOR and ED GONTY I0NE NEWS riff Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hams and son of La Grande spent the week end here visiting relatives. The Rebekahs held a Christ mas party on Sunday evening ing at the hall beginning with a potluck supper at five o'clock. Donations were accepted for the fund for the Christmas party at the Odd Fellows home. A pro gram consisting of a reading by Tanya Tucker, piano solos by Linda Rowell, and Berniece and Deniece Matthews, and a solo "O Holy Night" by Teresa Tucker accompanied by her grand mother, Mrs. Cleo Drake was en joyed by about 50 persons. Mrs. E. W. Christopherson, Sr., of Donald is visiting at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Christopher- son and family. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn, Jr., and daughter, Kimber and Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn, Sr., went to Portland on Tuesday and re turned Wednesday. They took Kimber down to Shrine hospital for examinations. The lone Dancing club held its Christmas dance at the Legion Hall on Saturday night. A large crowd attended. The large crowd attended. The rooms were decorated in the Christmas theme and refreshments werct served by the hosts, Mr. and Mrs James Barnett, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Boyce, Gerry Davidson, Mr. and Mrs. David Baker, Mr. and Mrs Herbert Ekstrom, Jr., and Miss Judy Morgan. The Gervais High school team played in in lone on Friday night and in Heppner on Saturday night. Hosting the boys in their homes were the following mem bers of the team Leon and Le- land Magill. Stephen Lindstrom Robert Emert, Dick Hynd, Tom Heimbigner, and Mark and Joe Halvorsen. Kathy Rea of Portland spent the week-end at home. Her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Clell Rea took her back on Monday. 4 , - r , - St 4r" U-'--- VWii A -J lone Garden Club Observes Christmas IONE The lone Garden club met December 12 at the Omar Rietmann home with Mrs. Riet- mann and Mrs. Carl Bergstrom as co-hostesses. Roll call brought back many nappy memories as members re sponded by naming their favor ite childhood games. Guests were divided into groups, the Marys and the Marthas. Competitive games pro duced much fun with the Mar thas as winners. The story of the origin of the 12th Night Christmas feature was read by Mrs. E. C. Heliker, who, with Mrs. William Spohn, was responsible lor a lovely cnnstmas program. Various birds seen recently about our community were a magertic eagle, nawks, a pair oi Diueiays and a couple of mag pies. Several arrangements were around the room with Mrs. Riet mann's rated the most colorful. Delicious refreshments carried out the beautiful red and white Christmas colors. Furniture Study Occupies lone Unit Points to look for in upholster ed furniture, as well as case goods, were discussed by Leila Palmer and Ruth McCabe at the lone Extension unit meeting at the home of Leila Palmer on December 5, 1963. The proiect leaders presented the film, "Furniture Styles and Selection" as a basis of their study. Points on buying and care of both case goods and upholster ed furniture were pointed out. Each member received a colorful booklet, "How to Select Furn iture," for individual study. The next meeting will be in January when the women will study "A Will of Your Own." Morrow County Creamery AND STAFF Church Ladies Honor Fathers, Sons at Dinner By DELPHA JONES LEXINGTON The Women's fellowship group of the Lexing ton Christian church sponsored a "Father-Son" banquet in the church parlors on Sunday even ing at 6:30 p.m. The commit tee in charge of preparing food and decorating were Mrs. Alonzo Henderson, chairman, with Mrs. Florence McMillan, Mrs. Bill B. Marquardt, Mrs. Joe Yocom and Mrs. Homer Hughes. Tables were cleverly decorated in the Christmas theme. Holly trees centered the tables and pro grams adorned with red candles and greenery wore at each place. Master of ceremonies was the Rev. Earl Soward, with doxology ana opening prayer oy Homer Hughes; welcome by Kenneth Jones, response by Carl Mar quardt, group singing, and a fine message was given bv the Rev. Walter Crowell of lone. Benedic tion was by Bill B. Marquardt followed by a fine film, "Time and Space," filmed at the Moody Bible Institute. The dinner was served by Mrs. Carl Marquardt and Mrs." C. C. Jones to the following fathers and sons: Homer Hughes and sons, Matt, Robert and Randy; Johnnie Ledbetter, representing Billy Klinger, Leonard Munkers and son, Craige; George Steagall and sons, Tommy and George; Earl Soward and son, Wayne; Dean Hunt and son, Gary; Bill B. Marquardt and son, Bruce; Harry Green, representing Ricky Marquardt, Carl Marquardt and son, Jim; Charlie Davidson of lone and son, Charles and rep resenting Dale Cooper, and Cecil Jones and son, Kenny. Groshes Welcome New Son Mr. and Mrs. Vic Groshcns, Jr., are the proud parents of a 5 lb., 10 oz. son born at Pioneer Memorial hospital on Sunday af ternoon, December 15. He joins two brothers, Greg and Scott, and has been named Harry. Pa ternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Vic Groshens, Sr., of Hepp ner and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Dar nielle of Grants Pass. Mr. and Mrs. Armin Wihlon and Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Peck were week-end visitors at Hood River at the Mel Boyer home. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Klinger have been spending the last few days in Hermiston to be with Rudolph Klinger and grandson, Steven Crozier. Mr. and Mrs. George Irvin and children were callers in Lexing ton on Saturday. They brought the Groshens children, Scott and Greg, to their home after a three weeks visit at the Irvin home in Rufus. Mrs. Cora Allyn is a patient in Pioneer Memorial hospital in Heppner. Showers Honor Miss Stanley Mrs. Joe Yocom and sister, Marian Stanley, were at Tulle Lake. Calif., over the week-end. Miss Stanley was recipient of a lovely bridal shower given her bv the class of '63 of which she was a member. She is the bride- elect of Forrest Rinehart of Ukiah. Mrs. Charlie Padberg was hos tess to a bridal shower honor ing Miss Marian Stanley at her home on Wednesday evening, December 11. Those present for the evening were Mrs. Richard Vinson, Mrs. L. U Kourke, Mrs. Robert Steagall, Mrs. Bud Wil son, Mrs. Joe Yocom, Mrs. Wayne Papineau, Mrs. Edward Hunt, Mrs. C. C. Jones and Mrs. Judy Paine of Heppner. December 19, 1963 5 State Deputy Visits Grange Lexington Grange met on Sat urday night for their regular meeting with newly elected mas ter Lvle Cox in the chair. Mr, and Mrs. Coble of Richland were introduced. Mr. Coble is a state deputy and came for the county installation which was held in lone earlier in the day. The meeting was preceded by a turkey potluck dinner. Treats were passed to the children and gifts boxed to be sent to Eastern Oregon State hospital. Later in the meeting Mr. Coble gave a most instructive talk, and the report on the balloting of state officers was given by Mrs. Nor man Nelson. It was announced that HEC would meet at the home of Mrs. A. F. Majeske with Mrs. Florence McMillan as eo- hostess. Three Links club of Holly Re- bckah lodge met at the home of Mrs. C. C. Jones last Thursday atternoon. A very short business meeting was conducted by Mrs. Armin Wihlon, chairman, after which an exchange of Secret Sister gifts was enjoyed. Refresh ments were served to Mrs. Charles Colley, Mrs. A. F. Ma ieske. Mrs. Earl Warner. Mrs. Bertha Hunt, Mrs. Florence Mc Millan, Mrs. Edward Hunt, Mrs. Charlie Padberg, Mrs. Joe Yocom, Mrs. June Fields, Mrs. LaTrace, Mrs. Archie Munkers and the hostess Mrs. Jones. It was an nounced that there will be a pot luck dinner at the regular lodge meeting followed by a Christ mas party Thursday night. Mr. and Mrs. Oris Padberg were Walla Walla visitors on Thursday. Messengers Have Daughter News has been received in Lexington of the birth of a daughter on Sunday, December 8, to Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Messen ger, Jr., of Hermiston. Maternal grandmother is Mrs. Zinter of lone and paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Messenger, Sr., of Mitchell, former Lexing ton residents. Mrs. Bertha Hunt left Hinkle by train on Friday night for Garden Grove, Calif., where she will spend the Christmas holi days with her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hunt and son. Mrs. Max Breeding and Mrs. Pentacost of Portland were Lex ington visitors last Wednesday. Accident Claims Mrs. Klinger Friends in Lexington were deeply saddened on Saturday to hear of the death of Mrs. Nora (Rudolph) Klinger of Hermiston in a car accident near Stanfield. She was riding in an a uto driven by her sister, Mrs. Julian Rauch, also of Hermiston. Mr. and Mrs Klinger lived for many years on a iarm north of Lexington. which is being farmed at the present by their son Kenneth (Pete). She is survived by her hus band of Hermiston, one son, Kenneth of Lexington, and six grandsons. She was preceded in death several years ago by a daughter, Doris Klinger Crozier. Mrs. Crozier's son, Steven has made his home with his grand parents since the untimely death of his mother and father. Services were held on Tuesday from the Peace Lutheran church of Hermiston with interment in Hermiston cemetery. Word has been received in Lex ington of the death of Carl Whil lack at Brookings on Monday morning. He was the son-in-law of Mrs. Emma Breshears and a cousin of Lola Breeding and Wil- Dur and ueorge Steagall. He was a former rpsulnnt of T.pxington MERRY .
