HEPPNER GAZETTE-TIMES. Thursday. September 12. 1963 Irrigon School Dates Reported By LaVELLE PARTLOW IRRIGON The A. C. Houghton kindergarten is planning a rum mage sale to be held September 28. Anyone having articles to donate to this cause, please leave them at either the Complete Food Store or Jorge nsen's Groc ery. Time- and place of rum mage sale will be announced later. There will be no school at A. C. Houghton Elementary Fri day, September 13, due to the Pendleton Round-Up. There will be a PTA meeting and Teachers' Reception Monday evening, September 16, at the A. C. Houghton Cafetorium. Par ents, teachers and friends are encouraged to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Stewart, Sharon and Tommy attended Stewart's school reunion of the class of '48 in La Grande over the week-end. This was the first reunion of the class since their graduation 15 years ago, and 60 alumni attended. A banquet was held at the Sacajawea Banquet room Saturday night with a pic nic at Red Bridge State Park Sun day afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shampine of Ranier, Wn., were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Cooley Wednesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Brownlee spent tho week-end with Brown lee's folks, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Brownlee and family of Brogan. The Rev. and Mrs. John H. Kenney drove to Prairie City Wednesday, where Rev. Kenney, as presbyter of the Assembly of God churches in this district, was called to conduct a business meeting at the Prairie City As sembly of God church. Kenneys remained in the area overnight, returning to Irrigon Thursday afternoon. Little Ricky Bunton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bunton of Hermlston, is spending the week In Irrigon with his grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hill and great grandmother, Mrs, Sedalia Dexter. The ladles of the Baptist church gave a baby shower hon oring Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Epp enbach and baby daughter, Mon ica Faye, at the church base ment Thursday evening. The shower was for both men and women, and was attended by 30 persons. Refreshments of an gel food cake topped with whip ped cream and fruit cocktail, punch and coffee were served. Harley Hammond is visiting here with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Coy.. Miss Clara Fay Coy left Mon day for Bartlesville, Okla., where she plans to attend business col lege. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Graybeal, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Graybeal, Mrs. Max Graybeal and Mrs. Ruth McCoy drove to La Grande Wed nesday to celebrate the 80th birthday of Lee Graybeal, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Graybeal. Others attending were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stewart, Mrs. Kate Stewart, Mrs. Warren Stew art and baby daughter Marchelle Reneo, all of La Grande. Refresh ments of ice cream and cake were served. Mrs. Ruth McCoy re mained in La Grande to spend 2 days with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stewart. Mr. and Mrs. Rees Morgan spent the week-end in Portland, where they visited Enoch Mor gan at St. Vincents hospital, and their aunt, Mrs. Russell' Dady. The Morgans also visited friends in Vancouver. Wn. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Graybeal spent Thursday to Saturday at Aver, Wn., where they stayed witli their son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Shingle decker, Ricky and Randy. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Stephens attended the Dress-up Parade in Pendleton Saturday evening, and staved overnight with Stephens' sister, Mrs. May McKinncy. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Pittock and Tattl have located at Bound brook, New Jersey, where Pittock is employed by United Airlines. Mrs. Pittock is the former Connie Swearlngen. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Snyder, Mike and Frances McDonald returned to Irrigon Sunday after a week's vacation in California. Whilv in Fortuna, they visited their son-in-law and daughter, SOG2 and Mrs. Mike Califf and son Mike. While traveling, they stopped at the "Shipwreck" In Eureka, tour ed the Redwoods, Including the Avenue of the Giants, and on the way home stopped at the Sea Lion Caves in Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bush and family of Portland were over night guests of Mr. and Mrs. Llo"d Cooley Sunday. Miss Jeanie Gille, formerly of Moran, Michigan, is living with her grandmother, Mrs. Myrtle McNamee, and will attend River side High school. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Coleman drove to Portland Wednesday, and brought Mrs. Coleman's mother, Mrs. Eva Mott, home with them to spend a week. Mr. and Mrs. Chet Collins took Elsie to Battleground, Wn. Sun day, where Elsie will be a junior at Columbia Academy. Mr. and Mrs. Collins returned to Irrigon Monday. Califf rode from Portland with Mr. and Mrs. Gene Andrews and Kenney, who were cominf? to Irrigon to visit the Elmer Zehncrs, and to go archery hunting. Mr. and Mrs. Berry Brewer oi Hermiston visited at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Stephens and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Bentley Monday. Mrs. Dave Kahl of Eagle Point attended the Alumni Reunion and spent the week-end with rel atives and friends of Hermiston and the Albert Partlows. Charles Hines Is convalescing at his home after undergoing surgery at Good Shepherd hos pital. James Halsteacl or ian Fran cisco arrived in Irrigon Wednes day to spend 2 weeks with his sister, Mrs. Mvrtle McNamee. Fac ulty meetings and registration of new students were held at A. C. Houghton school Thursday the 29th, and a Teachers' Work day followed on the 30th. Les Rucker of St. Anthony, Idaho and Mr. and Mrs. Bud Rucker and family of Smelter ville, Idaho were here to attend the reunion and visited with their mother, Mrs. Elmer Rucker, Mr. and Mrs. Don Adams and family and Mr. and Mrs. Clar ence Rucker. Pvt. Lee Towers left from the Pendleton airport Thursday for Fort Gordon, Ga., where he will attend school for 2 months, stud ying telephone maintenance and electronics. Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Proctor and family returned to Irrigon Wednesday after spending a month touring Alaska. They drove the Alkan (Alaskan) high way to Fairbanks, and from there went on to Anchorage and Seward. Thev were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hamer and Edna of Umatilla. At Seward, the group did some fishing, and Mr. and Mrs. Hamer remained there to watt for moose season. Their daughter, Edna, returned home with Proctors. Proctors drove to Kenia Peninsula, which is the furthest point west than can be driven there, and returned home through Idaho, stopping at Lake Louise. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Grim, Jr., and family of Spokane attended the Alumni reunion and visited Mrs. Grim's folks, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hoadley and Mr. and Mrs. C. w. Grim. Miss Judy Berger of Portland soent several davs with her folks, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Berger, and also attended the reunion. Da vis and daughters Karen and Kathy have left for their home in Pasadena, Md. after visiting a week at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Davis. Mrs. W. G. Seehafer was In Enterprise several days last week visiting at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Tye. Ronda Tye returned home after visiting here. Week-end visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rash were Mrs. Rash's aunt, Mrs. Gladys Ummerle, and her cous ins, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Whit more, all of Beaverton. The Don Adams' returned to Irrigon thar evening, and Mrs. Mary Adams went on to Wenatchee where she stayed with' Mr. and Msr. I. W. Rash for several days, and from there she went to Seattle where she spent some time with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Adams and family. Mrs. Adams returned to Irrigon Sunday night after being gone two weeks. Mrs. Guv Parke and chidren of Portland attended the school reunion and spent the week end with her folks, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Stephens. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Noble and girls of Klamath Falls attended the school reunion and spent the week-end with Mrs. Noble's folks. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. McRae and Bob. Miss Katie Williams of Kenne wick spent the week here with Miss Cara Fay Coy. Mrs. Glen Coy was called to Ft. Collins, Colorado Friday, due to the illness of her father, Wil liam Vigil, who passed away Sat urday morning. Mary Ann Jackson was honor ed on her ninth birthday with a party held at her home Friday. Those present were: Debbie Mc Coy. Sharon Stewart. Sherry Partlow, Etta Lou Christiansen, Joni Tiller and Mrs. Ernest Jorg ensen. After games were played and gifts opened, the birthday cake was served along with ice cream and punch. Grads Enter College are the parents of a seven pound, six and one-half ounce son, Bobby Ray, born August 30 in the Good Shepherd hospital in Hermiston. Play First Game Friday The Riverside Pirates will play their first football game of the season Friday at Arlington, and will have a home game here with Cascade Locks September 20. The senior class of Riverside High school will have a car wash at a local service station Sep tember 21. The junior class will hold a baked food sale the same day at Hick's Market. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Allen re turned home August 30 from a two weeks trip with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jones of Vancouver, Wn. to Canada, visiting Lake Louise, Banff, Jasper, Edmonton and Glacier National Park. They returned home by way of Wal lowa Lake. The Allen's spent the holiday week-end in Granger, Wn. at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Allen. Ronald Daniels, principal of Riverside High school, won the Hermiston City Open Tennis Tournament held recently in Hermiston, defeating Jack Thomas of Hermiston in the finals. Earl Ayres Views New 1964 Mercury Flying weather was rough but the new 1964 Mercury is smooth, Earl Ayres, owner of Heppner Auto Sales, reported upon his return from Seattle Monday where he attended the 1964 Lincoln-Mercury showing. He left by plane Sunday and was back home Monday nighf. Ayres said the Mercury models are particularly attractive, some witrr new roof lines. On the flight home from Seattle the plane encountered a lightning storm near Portland and it was necessary to maintain a holding pattern for 20 minutes before it was felt safe to land because of high winds. Shortly after, however, he took off again for Pendleton in another com mercial plane. Ayres made the trip alone from here.
