September 5, 1963 lone Host to School Men At Dinner Meet Thursday By KATHERINE LINDSTROM IONE Morrow county school administrators and coaches held a planning meeting and barbe cue on Thursday evening. Members of the PTA helping to serve the dinner were Mrs. Joe Hausler, chairman, Mrs. Pete Cannon, Mrs. Ray Boyce, Mrs. Gene Harryman, Mrs. Leonard Herrick, Mrs. Wallace Matthews and Mrs. Harvey Ring. Forty-six men were in attendance. Miss Shirley McGreer, daugh ter of Mrs. Verner Trocdson, has left for her teaching position at Chateauroux, France, an Air Force school. She attended sum mer school at the University of Oregon, where she will re ceive her masters degree. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bristow and family of Portland were visiting relatives in lone this week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ekstrom Sr., and Roland drove to the State Fair taking down some prize Hereford cattle to show. Also attending the fair were their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ekstrom Jr., and family. Mr. and Mrs. Earl McCabe and Arleta went to Portland on Tues day for shopping, and then went on down to Salem, where Arleta will participate in the 4-H Style Revue at the State Fair. She was chosen champion In her di vision of modeling at the Mor row County Fair last week and received a blue ribbon on con 'structlon at State Fair. They came home Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Garry Tullis, Tim and Mark came home on Wed nesday from Portland, where they spent a few days shopping. They also visited Mr. Tullis' brother, Mr. and Mrs. John Tullis and family at Beaverton. Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay Kincaid and daughter returned Thursday from a vacation spent at Coos Bay visiting Mrs. Lindsay's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Don Walters. Miller left Wednesday for an extended trip east, where they will visit Mr. Miller's relatives in Minne sota. The return trip will be made through Canada. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Nelson, Jr., took their daughter, Karen, Cher ilyn Smouse and Kristin Nelson to the State Fair at Salem on Thursday. While there Karen modeled In the 4-H Style Revue as a winner from Morrow county. Roy W. Lindstrom, Garland Swanson, Milton Morgan, James Barnett drove to Ilwaco, Wn. on Thursday to spend the rest of the week deep sea fishing on Morgan's boat. Mr. and Mrs. Elbe Akers and Danny and Mrs. James Barnett and Ricky and D-Ann left Fri day morning for a huckleberry picking trip on Camp Adams. They picked up Mrs. Aker's other daughter in Portland, Mrs. Dar lone Martin and Kim. The Bar netts and Martins returned on Sunday. Mrs. Nancy Zinter and child ren have moved Into the Paul Pettyjohn Jr., home on Main street. Mrs. Zelma Hughes Clark of Heppner is living with her aunt, Mrs. Ida Esteb, and working at Stefanl's Cafe. Church Resumes 9:30 Mass Mass will be held at 9:30 at St. William's Catholic church in lone beginning this Sunday morning. Members are asked to make note of the new time. Mrs. Delbert Emert has gone to Izee to spend the week-end with her daughter, Mrs. Pat Hammond and family. Bill Sears of Tlgard spent the week-end with his friend, John Swanson. Patty and Nancy Crawford of Portland are visiting their grand mother, Mrs. Ida Colemai for a couple of weeks. Gary Brenner is spending a few weeks with his parents, Mr, and Mrs. C. E. Brenner, before returning to college at the Uni versity of Oregon. He has just completed a summer school course and is a student in archi tecture. Wayne White left for his home in Los Angeles last week after spending the summer and spring working here. Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Childers and family have moved into the Ernie McCabe house on Main street, which was rceently va cated by the Harold Snider fam ily. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Roberts left for Chehalis, Wn., on Thurs day to visit relatives. They were also going to visit at South Bend, Wn. before returning to lone. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Palmer and granddaughter, Barbara, and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Palmer and their granddaughter, Sandra, spent from Thursday to Sunday at Camp Adams picking huckle berries. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rietmann and family spent their vacation at DeLake returning on Wednes day. Miss Paula Biggs of West Linn was a week-end guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Mar tin. She attended the rodeo with Jean and Ralph. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jepsen and family spent from Thursday to Saturday at the Hynd Bros. mountain cabin at Granite. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Biehl and family of La Grande spent part of the time with them there. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rietmann and family drove home on Fri day from Seaside, where they had been vacationing. Frank Jepsen and his sister, Evelyn, spent a ten day vacation driving to Los Angeles and other California points of interest. They attended some of the Billy Graham Crusade meetings in the Los Angeles Coliseum and at tended the wedding of a friend of Evelyn's in Bakersfield. Lyle Allyn, Gerald Bergstrom and Rollo Crawford drove to San Francisco last week returning on Friday evening. Mrs. G. A. Bolman left on Wed nesday for her home In Seattle, after spending some time here visiting at the home of her mother, Mrs. Vida Heliker. Mr. and Mrs. Charles O'Connor spent the Labor Day vacation at East Lake fishing. Guests at the John Eubanks mountain cabin this week-end were Mrs. Eubank's brother, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Eubanks and fam ily, her sister, Mr. and Mrs. John Sanders and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Nicholes and family of Port land. They all attended the ro deo and enjoyed watching their niece, Sandra, participate as Queen of the rodeo and also as a participant in some of the events. Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Baker left the first of the week for Sumner, Wn., to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Henderson. They will also visit In Portland, Aberdeen and her brother at Tacoma. Mrs. Kay Winklemann and children have moved to Board man, where she is employed. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Braaten have moved to Hermiston, where Green Stamps M STAMPS Mr. and Mrs. Gotfried Her mann, lone, had as recent house guests, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Mey er and daughter, Karen, of Chi cago, 111. Mrs. Meyers is a niece of Mr. Hermann. While here they visited Dr. and Mrs. Helmuth Hermann in Oak Grove, toured the Mt. Hood Loop, visited in La Grande with Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Crawford and family and with friends in Heppner, Lexing ton and Hermiston. Mrs. Johnny Williams and two hoys of Portland, visited Tues day through Thursday at the Morgan Connor home. Mr. and Mrs. Max Harris and Mr. and Mrs. Elwyn Hughes en joyed a fishing trip to Rowe Creek reservoir Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Allstott and family, Pendleton, were Heppner visitors Saturday. Their two daughters were members of the Westerners' baton marching group. Mr. and Mrs. Hervel Pettyjohn and son, Yakima, Wn. were week-end visitors here with rel atives and with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Crawford, lone. They left Monday afternoon to spend a few days with his par ents, Mr. anw Mrs. Raymond Pettyjohn, in Arlington. he has purchased a small acre age. Bus Drivers Named The following men have ac cepted positions driving school bus routes In the lone area: Pete Cannon, Cecil route; Ray Boyce, Gooseberry; Ernest Christopher son, Rhea Creek; Bryce Keene, shuttle bus for Rhea Creek bus; Wallace Matthews, Base Line route; Earl McCabe, North lone; Eldon Tucker, Morrison, David son, Linnell, and Palmateer route. Custodians at the school are Wallace Matthews at the high school, and Ray Barnett at the Grade school. The cooks at the cafeteria are Mrs. Ida Coleman and Mrs. Harvey Ring. Keith Savage has been hired as sexton and caretaker of the lone-Lexington Cemetery Main tenance District. Anyone desiring annual or permanent care for plots in the lone cemetery is asked to contact Carl Troedson, secretary, soon as grass planting is to be done shortly. Mr. and Mrs. Roy W. Lind strom and family arrived home Wednesday evening from a va cation spent in Southern Calif ornia. They enjoyed seeing Dis neyland, Marineland, K n o 1 1 s Berry Farm, Hollywood and a television studio tour and other places of interest in the Los An geles area. They also spent a day at Catalina Island and Steve and Roy went to see the Dodgers play at Chevez Ravine. Mrs. Tom Davidson and daughter, Joyce of Los Angeles are here visiting her father, Earl Morgan and other relatives. Joyce is a nurse and will spend her vacation here. Mr. and Mrs. Rowell and fam ily have moved to Pendleton. Mr. and Mrs. Vic Lovgren and son Dean are living in the O'Meara apartments. They form erly lived in Heppner. Procks Move to California Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen left on Wednesday morning for California. They took the house hold effects of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Prock to their new home at 3310 Jackson Ave., South San Gabriel. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Docktor are living in the Cecil Thome apartment. Mr. Docktor is teach ing In the high school here and will coach basketball. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Halvorsen and grandsons, Stephen and Jerry Crippen of Medford visited his brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen from Sat urday until Tuesday. They at tended the Rodeo and also the water ski show. Many lone residents enjoyed the Water Ski Show held at Mc- Blakneys Have Son Word of the birth of a son, John Paul, to Mr. and Mrs. Phil Blakney of Prosser, Wn.,. has been received by friends here. The young man, who joins four sisters and three brothers, was born Sunday, August 18, weigh ing 8 lbs., 4 oz. . HOSPITAL Patients admitted to Pioneer Memorial hospital for medical care during the past week are the following: Maxine Schmidt, Heppner; Lois Miller, Portland; Christine Buschke, Heppner; Es tella Hough, Heppner; Frank Robinson, Lexington ; Hazel Tripp, Fossil; Sarah Brooks, Hermiston, and Betty Curnutt, Heppner. Patients dismissed during this same period are: Rodney Rogers, Heppner; Delmar Westfield, Con don; Larry Muessig, Heppner; Joy Gerhard, Portland; Flossie Marick, lone; Ramona Smith, Lexington; Loretta Jewel, Fos sil, and Juanita Wilson, Heppner. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Howell and family for the past week were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Walters and son Gene of Wil low River, Minn. Mrs. Howell and Mrs. Walters are sisters. On La bor Day the families went to Walton Lake In the Ochoco Mountains for an outing. The Walters family was on vacation and they started home again Wednesday. Nary Yacht Club on Labor Day. The show, which was in charge of Ray Heimbigner, was a huge success with many interesting and exciting numbers. Taking part from the lone area were Tom and Linda Heimbigner, Joe, Mark and Frank Halvorsen and LeRoy Rea. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Lun dell and daughters, Cheryl and Karen spent from Tuesday to Friday shopping and visiting in Portland. Karen has just com pleted a summer course at Pa cific Lutheran University near Tacoma. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Allstott and family journeyed to Pendle ton Sunday to help his brother, R. D. Allstott, and Mrs. Allstott with the remodeling of their home. Mrs. Adelia Martin and daugh ter Suzanne returned to their home in Portland Monday after visiting at the home of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin An derson. Little four-year-old Su zanne had stayed during the past month with her grandparents. The Ned Sweek family journ eyed to Mt. Adams Saturday to pick huckleberries and returned home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Art Watkins vis ited relatives in the Tygh Valley and Grass Valley areas Sunday and Monday. Victoria and Vancouver, B. C, attracted Mr. and Mrs. Bud Peck and family for their vacation last week. They spent about four days there before returning to conclude their vacation in Seattle, Portland and Salem. The trip was very enjoyable, and a highlight was the Butchart Gar dens in Victoria. Bud recommen ded that those going there see them both in afternoon or even ing and at night to see them in daylight and under lights. He was named Perry Dean and weighed 8 lb. 9 oz. at birth. They have three other children, two daughters and a son. Guests of Mrs. Lester Doolittle on Saturday and Sunday were her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Perrott, and daughters, Leslie and Susan, of Portland. Mrs. Maude Robison went to Boise Wednesday for a visit with her son, G. A. Booker, and will stay for an indefinite period. She made the trip by air from Pendleton. Week-end guests at the Paul Hisler home was their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bristow and family of Port land. The David Eckman family spent most of the week-end at Reservoir Beach on the Columbia River with his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Abe Peeler sen, and family of White Swan, Wn., and the Pedersen's son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Pederson, Yakima, Wn. They enjoyed boating during that time.
