I'll be vacationing next week (from my job, that is) as I take paintbrush in hand instead of pen! To all, have a good vacation and I'll see you in two weeks! MANY FRIENDS, relatives, and schoolmates gathered at the courthouse lawn Saturday eve ning to say "hello" to Dean Lov gren who has been a patient in a Portland hospital following a car accident this spring. Much visiting followed the potluck supper held on tht lawn and many expressed good wishes to Dean. He returned to Portland Sunday and will continue ther apy treatment MYRNA SUTHERLAND enter tained the Pinochle club at her home last Tuesday. Beverly Sherman won high, Joyce White ly, low, and Joyce Phegley, pin ochle Others playing were Marge Eckman, , Gail Burkenbine, Car olyn Cole, and Mickey Mollahan. ooo THREE TABLES of bridge were on the menu Wednesday night at the home of Edda Mae Lov gren, She served fancy cookies, coffee, and lemonade during the play. Guests were Jan Agee, Joyce Ward, Betty Gimbel, Eileen Prock, Jean Bennett, Patty Prock, Davene Schubert, Ilene Wyman, Bebe Munkers, Kay Robinson, Lillian Sweek, and Nadine O'Brien. Bebe won high; Jean, second; Ilene, third; and Eileen, door prize. ooo BEULAH MANKIN entertained Friday afternoon Pinochle club with two tables in play and all members present. Playing were Millie Evans, Mary Harris, Gladys Beckett, Carrie Beckett, Hannah Anderson, Doris Wat kins, and Pearl Wright. Carrie won high; Mary, low; and Gladys and Mary won the pin ochle. ooo SPEAKING OF vacation time, have you thought of trailer traveling? In talking with the Charles Knox family I found they arevery enthuised about it and about the state parks for over night camping. Mother still has to cook, but the whole family pitches in and it all turns out to be more of a game. Our family has enjoyed "camping out" with the camp trailer and it is defi nitely for us. Besides the fun and enjoyment, the camping ideas has its economical advant ages! ooo .THE BRIDGE Biddies were guests at the home of Jan Agee Tues day night. Guests included Mary Jean McCabe, Mary McLeod, Mary McClure, Donna Gordon, Marian Jonasson, Janina John son, and Beverly Gunderson. Mary Jean won high and Donna was second. After traveling 32 times, Mary Jean latched onto the traveling prize! It was given for anyone having a 6-card suit or better. Some traveling! LAST WEEK-END was not the week-end for the "Browns" Paul and Betty; Maurice and Nan! While the Paul Browns were gone their black Labrador dog was run over and killed, and the Maurice Browns lost their cat while they were away. Heard they were still looking for it. As Betty said, "Why do we have pets, because we do become at tached to them, and of course there is always the possibility of losing them?" But they be- Cr. z : : : .-.::: :: -: ;:::::: come so much a part of the family and we wouldn't be with out one! We feel this way even though Boots, our dog, was sup posed to be a bird-type dog and always runs for cover every time we shoot a gun! 0 0 0 FOR SUMMER time eating and a minimum of cooking time, use cold cuts and frankfurters tor meat on your menus. With the hot weather many will be cook ing out of doors. This means steaks and hamburgers and to comlete the meal, foil wrap po tatoes and corn on the cob and place on the barbecue. The potatoes and corn may be rubbed with butter before wrapping and add salt and pepper to the corn. They will take about an hour to cook on the barbecue. To add a crisp cool treat to the menu serve a tossed green salad with ice Sans Souci Welcomes Mistletoe Members Sans Souci Rebekah lodge wel comed members of the Mistletoe lodge at the meeting Friday eve ning. The Mistletoe lodge from Hardman disbanded May 16 and voted to join the Sans Souci group. All Mistletoe members were presented gifts from the Heppner lodge as they were welcomed. Mrs. M. N. (Altha) Kirk was in troduced as district deputy of the Rebekah lodges in this district. Members having birthdays during the months of April, May and June were honored with a song and birthday cake. Sand wiches and coffee were also ser ved at the close of the meeting. Mrs. Robert (Iris) Van Houte was presented a going away gift from the lodge. She and her fam ily moved to Portland this week. The Sans Souci lodge will not meet again until September 6 at the lodge hall. cream dessert. ooo HAVE A good vacation, I will be calling for stories the week of July 8. Monahan, son fo Mr. and Mrs. James Monahan, in San Francisco, Calif., April 15. They now make their home in Coronado, Calif. California Ceremony Joins Pair Sacred Heart Catholic church in San Francisco, Calif., was the scene of the wedding April 15 of Miss Mary Francis Dominguez, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. An tonio Dominquez, Loomis, Calif., and Lieut. JG Michael F. Mona han, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Monahan, Heppner. The double ring ceremony was solemnized by the Rev. Father Patrick Aylych at a 10 a.m. nuptial mass. i Given in marriage, by her father, the bride was gowned in a full length Paris snow satin gown with short sleeved fitted bodice, fashioned with full skirt and chapel train. An embroid ered panel draped diagonally frtfm the left shoulder to the right instep. Her shoulder length veil of illusion net was held in place with a tiara crown of seed pearls and orange blossoms. WINDJAMMER Precision leweled movement, waterproof1, shock rtllstint, lumlnow dial. Marie Dominguez, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. She chose a fitted bodice dress in pink with full skirt. Her acces sories were fuchsia and she car ried a nosegay of white carna tions, backed by fuchsia net. Best man was 1st Lt. James D. Monahan, Reno, Nev., broth er of the groom Ushering was Antonio Domingues, Loomis, Calif.,, brother of the bride. For her daughter's marriage, Mrs. Dominguez wore a beige sheath dress with white acces sories and orchid corsage. Mrs. Monahan chose a mint green lace sheath with jacket, accessories in white and corsage of lavender orchids. Also attending was Miss Ter esa Monahan, wearing a beige suit with beige and brown ac cessories. A wedding dinner was served after the ceremony to 50 guests at the apartment home of L. H. Dominguez, uncle of the bride, in San Francisco. For traveling, the bride chose a tawny brown suit trimmed with mink collar. She wore a pearl necklace, gift of the groom brought from his service in the Orient. The couple left on a 10 day honeymoon to Carmel and Southern California. They now reside in Coronado, Calif., where the groom resumed duties aboard the carrier USS Kittyhawk. After receiving her nursing degree in San Franciso, the bride received a Bachelor of Science degree in medicine from St. Louis University. She is now a nursing instructor at Mary's Help hospital in San Francisco. The groom is a graduate of the University of Portland and of Naval Officers Candidate School, in Newport, R. I. Attending the ceremony from Heppner were the parents of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. James Monahan, and Teresa, sister of the groom. "Something from the jeweler's, is always something special."
