Brindlo and Lcola Anno Joynos, both mem bers (if this vear's eraduatinc class lit Ilepvmer Hinh school, have recently been announced as recipients of scholarships for the cominn fall term at Kastcrn Ori'Ron CollpRc. La Grande. Also named for scholarship aid is Dennis D. Doherty, now attending the University of Ore Ron. He Is one of 107 students enrolled there and granted aid by the State Scholarship Coin- mission for the next academic year. There have been 1558 Oregon students awarded one of three kinds of scholarships, as an nounced by the commission in Salem on May 8. Approximately 50 of these students will be 1!U)3 graduates and the remain ing are already enrolled in in stitutions of the Oregon State System of Higher Education. Vernon spent a few days recently at the home of his brother-in-law and family, Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Lesley. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Saling of North Powder are visiting friends and looking after their property in Hardman. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil McDaniel and family spent the week-end at their home here from Ash land. Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Robin son went back to Ashland with Mrs. McDaniel and children to spend the week. Mrs. McDaniel and children will stay until school is out. Cecil McDaniel started fall ing logs for Kinzua Monday on forest land close to Fossil. Bonnie Kessell won a blue rib bon at the Morrow county spell ing contest held recently at Irri- gon. Her score was 997c Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Robinson visited recently with Mr. Robin son's niece and nephew who live near Weiser, Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Claud Coats of Boardman visited Mr. Coats' brother, Jess Coats, on Sunday. Mis. Daisy McDaniel, Mrs. Ivan McDaniel and Sammy, Mrs. Moran Medlock and sons, Ray mond and Oren of Heppner were visitors in Hardman last Thurs day. Mrs. Tom Howell and girls, Bretti and Patty of Heppner, vis ited Alta Stevens on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Chapel and Cassy spent Sunday in Pas co. Elmer Knighten of Condon came for a visit with his brother, Wilbur, one day recently. John Stevens and Alta moved home from Heppner the first of May. Recent visitors at the Eslie Walker home were Elmer Kessel of Meacham, Glen Walker of Pendleton, Duane Alderman of Milton-Freewater and Bill Kes sell of Boardman. Miss Bonnie Kessell is spend ing the week-end with Patti and Bretti Howell in Heppner. Mrs. Joel Engleman and son Frankie of lone visited one day last week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Chapel. Mr. and Mrs. Eslie Walker were business visitors in Pendle ton on Saturday. On the sick list this week are Mr. and Mrs. Bob Stevens, Ju.iean, Melvin and Iva Lou Mc Daniel and Cassy Chapel. Lawrence Williams is a pat ient in the Veteran's hospital in Wa a Walla. Wn. Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Craber are leaving Monday for Ashland where they will visit the doctor. Mrs. Frank Howell and Mrs Clifford Howell of Monument called on Mr. and Mrs. Sam Mc Daniel on Friday, on their way home from Heppner.
