Ron Crabtree, Rollie Ekstrom, Leslie Madden, Evelyn Marick, Gary Morgan, Ralph Martin, Jim Martin, Tass Morrison, Marvin racmere and Kathy Rea, motored to seaside for an outine on Fn day and Saturday. Mav 3 and 4. Two other members, Louise Pointer and Sandra Eubanks were unable to make the trip, as they were attending the Arl ington Rodeo with others of the Morrow County Rodeo court. The chaperones were Mr. and Mrs. fieri Akers, Mr. and Mrs, Darrell Padbere. Mr. and Mrs, Arnie Hedman and Miss Aletha Grytness. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Morgan and Mr. and Mrs. Jodie Morrison attend the Mother's Week-end at the Oregon State College at Corval lis over the week-end of May 4 and 5. Miss Mike Morrison, who at tends Oregon State University, sang with her sorority chorus, Alpha Chi Omega, in the sing ing competition during the week end. She is also the sponsor girl for the Pershing Rifle Drill Team which won first place in the drill team competition dur ing the week-end festivities. May is work month for all children from the third grade up at the lone Community church. The names of these children are listed on a chart at the church. They will sell themselves as slaves to anyone wanting some work done this month. Proceeds from this ven ture will go to the Camp Adams Scholarship Fund to help some one go to camp who may be un able to go otherwise. For fur ther information please call Mrs. Lindsay Kincaid. Starting June 2, the lone Community church will go on it's summer schedule with morn ing and the church school class es starting at 9:30 a.m. This schedule will continue until La bor Day. (Story, Page 1, Section 1) Services Held On May 30 For Doc Hinton By MARTHA MATTESON MONUMENT Funeral ser vices were held Friday. Mav 3, for Henry Daniel Hinton, age 80, who died April 60 at the John Day Medical Center. Rev. Ken neth Thomas officiated at ser vices at the Presbyterian church in Monument. Organist was Janice Cork and music was by the choir. Mr. Hinton, known to every one as "Doc," came to Hamil ton at the age of four years. He and his family have resided in the Hamilton and Monument areas his entire life. Born August 11, 1882. at Crow, Oregon, he was the son of Doug las and Catherine Hinton. He was married to Effie Stirritt on September 17, 1907, and to them were born two children, a daughter, Ella Kenton of Beav- erton, and son, Boyd Hinton of Monument. Mrs. Hinton pre- ceeded him in death in June, 1929. On September 10, 1958, he was married to Reeta May Hunt, and to them was born a daughter, Dianna Hunt Hinton. Surviving are his wife, Reeta; son, Boyd; daughters, Mrs. Ken ton, Beaverton, and 8-year-old Dianna, still at home. Also 12 step-children; two grandchild ren, Sharon McKinnon of Hepp ner and Mary Ella Neal of Kim berly; three great-granddaughters and one great grandson. He leaves two sisters, Ivy Barnard and Ella Durst of Monument; three nieces, Ailene Peterman, Canyon City; Reta King, Ham ilton, and Faye Davis, John Day. Pallbearers were Joe Elder, Rho Bleakman, Tom Ross, Jim Stirewalt, Kenneth Rounds and Frank King. Interment was in the Monument cemtery. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Drees brought their daughter Niki home last Monday from the Valley hospital where she had been following a car accident two weeks ago. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Erhardt and three children returned last Wednesday night after spending a week in Portland visiting rel atives. Dr. C. M. Wagner of Heppner flew in last Sunday bringing Mrs. Gene Vaughan and daugh ter Debby home from the Hepp ner hospital where they had been patients. On Friday, Mr. Vaughan brought the three little boys home who were also in the hospital. Helen Brown and daughter left April 29 for Boise, Ida., where she was to have a med ical checkup. B. Lewis of Seattle, Wn has been visiting his nieces and nephew here. Miss Marlene Lewis was slightly hurt by a horse April 28 at the ranch of her grand father, Bud Engle. Gracie Matteson and two child ren, Martha and Ralph of Al turas, Calif., came Thursday for a visit with relatives, the Hin tons, Hunts and Mattesons. James Hunt of Mitchell, Dale Hunt of John Day, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Durbin and four children and Miss Arvella Hunt of Prine ville were in town Friday for the services of Doc Hinton. L. J. Hostesses were Miss Sharon Olson, Miss Donna Isom and Mrs. Albert Partlow. Also assisting with the shower were Mrs. Earl Isom, Mrs. Vernon Stewart and Mrs. Myrtle Markham. The 39 ladies present participated in singing several love songs, and this was followed by a mock wedding presented by Mrs. Earl Isom, Miss Sharon Olson, Miss Donna Isom, Anita and Donna Kay Pummel, Terri Senn, Mrs. Vern on Stewart and Sharon, Mrs. Al bert Partlow and Sheryl and Debbie McCoy. Following the entertainment, gifts were open ed, and refreshments served were ice cream sundaes, ice cream wafers, coffee and punch. Mr. and Mrs. Ben McCoy and Terry spent the week-end in Ru fus, where they visited Mrs. Mc Coy's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bers. Mrs. Mary Adams and Mrs. Sidney Lewis drove to Pendle ton Saturday and while there, they attended the Open House held at the state hospital. Mrs. Vernon Stewart, Mrs. Myrtle Markham and Mrs. Al bert Partlow spent Thursday in Pendleton shopping and visit ing relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Beard of Hood River spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Isom and Donna. Mrs. Allie Gollyhorn is a pat ient at the Umatilla hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hohbs and family drove to La Grande and North Powder, spending the week-end visiting Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nice, Larry and Marlene of La Grande and Mrs. Georgia Hobbs and other relatives in North Powder. Miss Hazel Stitzel left Mon day for La Grande, where she will spend the week visiting her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Gekeler. Mrs. Perry Pummel and Mrs. Mary Adams returned Friday morning from a Ladies Home Extension convention held in Corvallis at the Oregon State University. There were 785 ladies registered for the 2-day conven tion. While in Corvallis, they visited with Mrs. Dave Kahl, ne'e June Goodwin, a former Irrigon resident. Frank Smawley had two fing ers cut off in a power lawn mower accident Thursday. Mrs. D. E. Brake of Milton Freewater spent the week-end visiting Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Gray heal. Menus at A. C. Houghton Elementary for the week of May 13 to 17 are as follow: Mon dayhot dogs, potato chips, corn and fruit cobbler; Tues day chili beans, green salad, fruit and cookies; Wednesday beef and noodles, green beans and cherry bubbles; Thursday roast turkey, dressing, potatoes and gravy, vegetables, celery sticks and ice cream; Friday baked potatoes, cottage cheese and peach salad, peas and cheese cake. All meals are serv ed with bread and butter and milk. There will be a first-aid course for adults from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the old cafeteria Thursday evening, May 9. Pa trolman Neal Tones, Oregon state police, will be the instruc tor. Friday, May 10, a primary track meet will be held. Friday evening, May 10 at 8:00 p.m., a band concert will be presented by Riverside high school in the A. C. Houghton cafetorium. Ad mission will bo adults, 75e, high school students, 50c, elementary students, 25c. Free refreshments will be served following the concert. Saturday, May 11, A. C. Houghton will play baseball at Athena at 1:00 p.m. Mrs. Glen Coy was honored with a pink and blue shower Friday evening, given by ladies from the Pilgrim Holiness church in Hermiston. Mr. and Mrs. John Pacheco of Los Gatos, Calif., are here visit ing Mrs. Pacheco's folks, Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Gray beat. Mrs. Albert Partlow and Named to Honorary Miss Karen Lundell, student at Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, Wn., was one of 18 stu dents pinned for membership in Tassels, senior women's hon orary. The ceremony was part of an awards program put on at the annual PLU Associated Wo men Students meeting in East void Chapel Tuesday evening," April 30. Miss Lundell is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray W. Lundell, lone. Sheryl, Mrs. Myrtle Markham and Mrs. Ruth McCoy attended a piano, organ and vocal music recital in Hermiston Sunday af ternoon. Mrs. Markham's grand son, Steve Mills, was a partici pant. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hill are caring for their granddaughter, Rhonda Mae Cook of Portland, due to illness of Rhonda's mother, Mrs. Roscoe Cools. The Rev. and Mrs. John Ken ney, Mrs. Josie Buchanan, Mrs. Myrtle Markham and Mrs. Ches ter Wilson attended the district Fellowship Meeting of the As semblies of God Churches in Heppner Monday, May 6. Rev. Kenney is presbyter for the dis trict. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Coleman, Kevin and Stacy of Rufus, spent Sunday and Monday visiting Mrs. Coleman's folks, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Parker and family, and Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Coleman. The ladies of the Baptist church served a dinner to the Baptist men of this district Fri day evening. Following the din ner, a meeting was held in the church. Vickie Gayman was honored on her 8th birthday with a party held at her home. Guests present were Linda Reed, Leann Gus tafson, Teresa Olmsclieid, Deb bie Keith, Debbie McCorkle, Debra McCoy, Rebecca Goodall, Judy Snyder, Wanda Jackfcon, Julie Kay Lesley and Sherry Partlow. Refreshments of cup cakes, ice cream and punch were served. Word has been received from County Health Nurse Velma Glass, that the total number of chest x-rays taken in Irrigon on Friday was 162.
