Those attending from this area were Mr. ana mis. iioihnrt Vinson. Lexington. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wilson and son and Clarence Buchanan, all of Heppner. Mr. Buchanan died Saturday at the Lincoln Mem orial hospital, Toledo. He was the son of Cyrrin Buchanan and Eveline Chase Dawson, born In Uniontown, Wn, October 20, 1897. He was married to Rhoda Edmison on September 2, 1919 in Ellensburg, Wn. Mr. Buchan an was one of the first employ. ees of the Heppner Pine Mill and made his home in Lexington until 1939. Surviving are four sons: Clar ence. Heppner: Robert, U. S. Navy, San Diego, Cal.; Charles Delake: David. Temole Citv Cal.; three daughters: Suzanne Vinson, Lexington, Mary i'atter son, Bieber, Calif., and Ida Lohr er, Rose Lodge. Also one step son. John Dawson. Seattle. Wn.. one half-brother, Frank Dawson, Elma, Wn., 17 grandchildren and 1 great-grancicnuuren. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Yocom spent New Year's Day in Pilot Rock. Raymond Schoonover of Port land and Pfc Stanley Schoon over visited one day last week with their mother, Mrs. June Fields, and other relatives. Pri vate Schoonover Is home from Ihe South Pacific on emergency leave, due to the serious Illness ol his grandmother In Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Asa Way of Port land and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Way and family of Vancouver, Wn., spent the New Year's holl days with a brother and family. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Way, and Mrs. Merle Cornileson. Miss Alice Wihlon and Ken neth Sellers of Pasco, Wn were callers one day last week at the home of her father and family, Mr. and Mrs. Armin Wihlon. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Yocom and children were Hermiston callers Sunday, taking Mrs. Yocom 's sister to catch a bus to her home in Tulle Lake, Cal., after spend ing two weeks at the Yocom home. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Jones and son Kenneth were dinner guests on New Year's Day at the W. I. Miller home. Mrs. Florence Mc Millan motored as far as Pendle lou with them where she spent Ihe day with a daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cool. Returns From Calif. Trip Mrs. Bertha Hunt returned on Sunday from a trip to California. She spent the holidays with her son and tamny, Mr- and Mrs. Donald Hunt at Westminister, Calif., and enjoyed some fine sightseeing with them to various places. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Padberg entertained with a New Year's parly. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. J. Van Winkle, Mr Roger Campbell Mr. and Mrs. Gone Cole, Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie U'dbetter. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Hunt, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Orwick Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Munkers, Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Doherty, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Cutsforth, Mr. and Mrs. George Hermann, Mr. and Mis. Roy Martin and house guests, Mr. and Mrs. Don Hat field, of Madras, and the host and hostess and their house guests, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Bis senger of Pendleton. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hatfield and children of Madras were houseguosts of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Martin over the New Year's holidays. Holly Installs Officers Holly Rebekah Lodge held in stallation of officers at their reg ular meeting on Thursday night The incoming Noble Grand Dim ple Munkers and Vice Grand Edna Kctsch, after being duly installed, appointed their ap pointed officers. These Included Chaplain Hilda Yocom, Warden Ardith Hunt, Conductor Datiene Padberg, Inside Guardian Freda Majeske, Outside Guardian Ber tha Hunt. Color Bearer Donna l'apineau, L. S. N. G. Maureen Groves, R. S. N. G. Florence Mc Millan, L. S. V. G. June Fields, Musican Merle Cornelison. Other elected officers were Secretary Delpha Jones, Treasur er La Verne Henderson and three year trustee Merle Cornileson Outgoing Noble Grand Bernice Wihlon presented all her 1902 officers with small tokens of appreciation. Cards were sent to sick friends, Cleo Van Winkle and Freda Majeske. Refresh ments were served later by the hospitality committee. Past Noble Grands club met for its regular meeting at the home of Mrs. Bernice Wihlon. Election of officers was held with the following taking office: Bertha Hunt, chairman; Bernice Wihlon, vice-chairman, and Del pha Jones, secretary-treasurer. The next meeting is to be at Florence McMillan's homo with Bertha Hunt as co-chairman. Secret Sisters were disclosed at this time and names drawn for the new ones. Meeting adjourned with refreshments served by Mrs. Wihlon and Mrs. Henderson. Word was received this week of the death of Mrs. Helen Saw County Court Proceedings County Court met in regular session on December 5, 1962. The minutes of the previous term were read and approved. Dewey West, Jr., Zearl Gil lespie and Andy Skiles were ap pointed a Committee of three, to work with the County Court, in regards to the fair buildings at Boardman. The County Court entered in to agreements with the State Tax Commission as to the ap praisal of the farm and range lands, and the timber in the county. Larry Cook was appointed Jus tice of the Peace, pro tempore, Sixth Judicial Dist., for a period not exceeding 60 days. Cancellation of the personal property taxes for T. S. and Ida Reid, Carl Ulrich, Clarence Gaukerude, was ordered rescind ed. The Court ordered the vacation of a road in Sec. 24, T 5N. Range 26, Irrigon. Betty McDonald was nirea to distribute the surplus foods at the Welfare office and keep the records of such transactions. Jan. 2, 1963 was the date set for opening the bids for gas oline and oil. Serv., Sal. 109.65, DA Inc. 9.50, Dee Bailey Home From Copenhagen Dee Bailey, formerly of Hep pner and a graduate of high school here in 1957, has returned from Copenhagen, Den mark, with his wife and 2-year-old daughter and is presently in Condon where his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack E. Bailey, also formerly of Heppner, reside. Bailey was stationed with tin; army in Germany for two years, came home after his discharge in 1960 and then returned to Copenhagen to take a position with General Motors installing instruments. He married a Copenhagen girl, and their one child is daughter Birgitte, 2. Bailey said that he is looking for suitable employment and was in Heppner recently to visit Ed Groshens, a buddy in service. Groshens just recently returned from Germany and has taken a position with the Hep pner branch, First Nalio n a i Bank. Voice of Democracy Contest Rules Given Entries are open to boys and girls of the 10th, 11th aiid 12lh grades of schools In Umatilla and Morrow counties in the Kith annual Voice of Democracy con test sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U. S. Entry blanks have been mail ed to each high school superin tendent. Each school should hold its contest before February 8 to select a winner. The winning tape should then be forwarded to radio station KUMA, Pendle ton before February 18. The district contest for the Voice of Democracy will be at the studios of KUMA at 7:30 p. m. February 13. The school winner should be present for tin contest, but if unable to attend, the tape will be judged. Further information may be obtained from Vance Col'burn, district commander, Veterans of Foreign Wars Contest Chairman, Echo. Eastern Oregon Bank Gets CARE Citation In recognition of its service to CARE in disseminating Food Crusade material in the com munity, a certificate of apprec iation has been sent to the Hepp ner branch of the Hank of East ern Oregon by the Northwest CARE office in Seattle. The bank is one of numerous volunteers in the state which have cooperated with the inter national relief agency. Express ing the gratitude of" CARE, the certificate reads: "This Certifi cate of Appreciation is grate fully presented by CARE to the Heppner Branch of the Bank ol Eastern Oregon on behalf of the needy peoples around the world." is the mother of Eugene Sawyer, formerly of Lexington, and had visited in Lexington and Hep pner at various times. Mr. and Mrs. Britton Price and children of Eugene visited with grandparents of Mrs. Price, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Warner, over the holidays. The Lexington Christian church board met Thursday night and discussed plans for the laying of linoleum. Work days will be scheduled soon for members to assist in this church project.
