A $25 8 mm. motion picture camera, donated by the Lions to the Legion as a door prize, was won by Hand Pointer of lone. Twelve won $5 merchandise prizes donated by lone mer chants as follows: Jim's Chevron, Art Lindstrom; Bristow's Market, Rick Barnett; Hick's Grocery, Rollie Crawford; Jack's, Bert Hamilton, Heppner; Paul Petty john, Fern McClintock, Cecil; In dependent Garage, Mary Bris tow; Stefani's, Melvin Melena; Harold Snider TV, Thelma Mc Cormac, Heppner; Dobyns Pest Control, John Rea; Builders Sup ply, Henry Baker; Rietmann Hardware, Virgil Rea, The Dalles; Akers Motor Service, Mrs. Don Linnell. Alton Yarnell, Lions president, said that the club cleared $730 on the event, and a fair-sized By LORRAINE BALL IONE The lone Post, Amer ican Legion, is sponsoring the annual fireworks display Sat urday night at the high school Memorial field. The date was advanced to June 30 because many families have outings planned for the day and even ing of July 4. The display will start at 9 p.m.. with a aance following at the Legion hall. The Bineo club met at the home of Mrs. Ida Coleman last Wednesday with Mrs. Vida Hel- iker and Mrs. Ida Esteb as co hostesses. Mrs. Omar Rietmann was a guest. The three month birthday party for April, May and June birthdays was neia at tne tie- bekah hall on Thursday even ing following the regular busi ness meeting. Birthday guests included Mrs. Mary Swanson, Mrs. Ida Coleman, Mrs. Anna Lindstrom, Mrs. Elaine Rietmann, Mrs. Kathrvn Thome ana Mrs. Gladys Drake. Committee for the evening included Mrs. David Rietmann, Mrs. Walter Roberts, Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn, Mrs. Milton Morgan and Mrs. Wallace Mat thews. A birthday gift was to be sent to Mrs. Adon Hamlett who is still confined to the hospital in California. Mrs. Lena Lundell and Mrs. Gladys Drake were co-hostesses for the Three Links club on Fri day at the home of Mrs. Lundell. Twelve members were present. Games were played and Mrs. David Rietmann received the door prize. The next meeting will be at the nome oi Mrs. ma Coleman in July. Mr. and Mrs. David Rietmann, son Harold, and Davie Glock vis ited with relatives in Walla Walla, Wn on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Drake and family of Tillamook visited with his parents during the week-end. They were in Heppner to attend the wedding of her brother. Mrs. Ray Turner and sons of Salem are visiting with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Drake this week. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Palmer and family and Mrs. Cleo Drake, Bob Drake and Mr. and Mrs. Marion Palmer were among the lonians attending the Nash-Connor wed ding in Heppner June 17. W. Martins Visit In Valley Jean Martin, duaghter of Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Martin, under went major surgery on her tongue last Monday at the Good Samaritan hospital in Portland. She was released on Saturday and is staying with her aunt, Mrs. Marie Martin and grand father, A. T. Martin at West Linn, returning to lone later this week. Mr. and Mrs. Martin were with her on Monday. Mrs. Martin attended a State Federation of Garden clubs meeting at the Marion Motor Hotel in Salem during the week and one in relation to Camp Adams, She visited with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Horton and also with her son Melvin who is employed in irrigation research for the Ag riculture Department this sum mer. Fredrick Martin and son Ralph joined Mrs. Martin, Melvin and other members of the family on Sunday at West Linn for a re union of the Marshall family. Over 100 relatives were in at tendance. Ellis Ball of the U. S. Air Force is spending a medical leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Ball. He is convalescing from re cent knee surgery at the Fair child Air Force Base hospital in Spokane. Fire Damages Crum Property The lone fire department was called to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Peterson near the Ralph Crum ranch to help put out a grass fire which burned small out buildings and fence near the home of Mr. and Mrs. Peterson. The fire was thought extinguished following- the burn ing of rubbish and grass but later ignited again, causing con siderable alarm due to dry con ditions. Jack Crum recently had his tonsils removed at the Pioneer Memorial hospital in Heppner. He is home, but reported im proving slowly. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Jansen and son of Bend were house guests at the home of his sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Palmer, during the family gathering for the Nash-Connor wedding. Dakota Relatives Entertained On Tuesday evening of last week, Mrs, Lee Palmer was hos tess for a barbecue at her home in honor of her uncle, Vincent Nagowski of Forman, North Da kota, and an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Walt Josevvski and son, also of Forman, who were here for the Nash wedding in Heppner. Other guests at the barbecue were Mr. and Mrs. Lin coln Nash and Mr. and Mrs. Marion Palmer. Bristows Welcome Son Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bristow of Tillamook are the proud parents of a baby boy, Steven Gerald, born on June 13. Young Mr. Bris tow weighed in at 6 lbs. 14 oz. Grandparents in lone are Mr. and Mrs, Edmond Bristow. Mrs. Bristow went to Tillamook to be willi them for the week, re turning to lone on Sunday. Mr. Bristow and Gene Grabll motor ed to Portland to bring her home. Mr, and Mrs. Joe Majors vis ited over the week-end in lone and Heppner with relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Wright and three daughters of Grand Junction, Colo,, and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wright of Baker visited re cently with Mrs. Ida Grabll and other area relatives. Mrs. Frances Piper returned to lone on Friday, after visiting in Idaho and Washington towns with relatives for the past four weeks. Mrs. Marion Palmer hosted a coffee hour in honor of the birth day of Mrs. Cecil Thome last Thursday at her country home. Guests present included Mrs. Gary Tullis, Mrs. Fred Herman, Mrs. Clell Rea, Mrs. Harold Sher er, Mrs. Dick Sherer, Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn Jr., Mrs. Dale Ray, Mrs. Milton Morgan and Mrs. Lee Pettyjohn and daughters. John Hanson of Lakeview has been visiting the past week with his aunt and family, Mr. and Mrs. Thil Emert. Mrs. Wilbur Akers spent sev eral days in Walla Walla this past week visiting with the Jer okl Filans and with her son Ivan. Joe Hausler announced that advanced swimming and diving lessons will begin on July 3. Also Women's swimming instructions will be given at 10:30 a.m. on each Saturday as long as there is interest shown. Mr. and Mrs. David Baker and family were in Pendleton for the week-end to help celebrate the 40th wedding anniversary of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gorger. Otto Matthews is spending several days with his brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wal lace Matthews. Otto is of Rose burg.
