The draping of the altar cere monies were conducted in mem ory of eight departed members and three past grand patrons and matrons of the grand chapter of Oregon. Local members were Ethel LeTrace, Loyal Parker, Frank S. Parker, Ida Cason, Alice Anderson Clark, Dorothy Suter, Jess Turner, and David Hynd. Mr. and Mrs. Julius Gimbel, Hermiston, were here for the meeting to see their son and daughter-in-law initiated. The next Eastern Star meet ing will be May 28 in the Ma sonic hall. Couple Announces June Wedding Date The wedding date of Sunday, June 17, has been set for the marriage of Miss Shirley May Nash, daughter of Mr. arid Mrs. Lincoln Nash, to Melvin Dean Connor, son of Albert Connor. The ceremony is planned for 2:00 p. m. in the sanctuary of the First Methodist church in Heppner. A reception will follow in the basement social rooms. The couple extends a cordial in vitation to all friends to attend. District Officer Installs New Slate Of Co-op Officers Mrs. Ada Sacrisson, district representative of the Co-op Homemaker groups of the Walla Walla district, Pilot Rock, was installing officer at ceremonies of the local Lexington Co-op Biddies May 7 at the Lexington City hall. Seated as the new chairman of the group was Mrs. Millard Nolan, Lexington. Other officers are Mrs. Gene Ferguson, Hepp ner, vice-chairman; Mrs. L. A. McCabe, lone, secretary; Mrs. Joel Engleman, lone, treasurer; and Mrs. Edna Turner, Heppner, representative. During the program, Mrs. Sac risson showed several crafts that other co-op groups had done. An other guest, Mrs. Edith Stevens, also of Pilot Rock, showed some of her work in tin can craft, and the making of flowers from wood fibers. Local members also brought articles for craft display. An invitation was extended to the group to attend a picnic at the Sacrisson home in Pilot Rock on June 15. Regular meetings will resume September 17 when Mrs. Stevens will give instruc tion in wood fiber flowers. Nine members and three guests were present for the afternoon. Hostesses were Mrs. Nolan, Mrs Annie Keene and Mrs. McCabe. Ginger Springer Installed Sunday Worthy Advisor of Rainbow Assembly Ginger Springer was installed worthy advisor of Ruth Assembly No. 50, Order of Rainbow for Cirls, Sunday afternoon at the Masonic hall. Ginger chose as her theme, "Love Binds Creation Together," and her colors were turquoise and silver. She was escorted by her broth er, Dick, and placing the crown on her head were Debby and Donna Palmer. During the crowning ceremonies, Ginny Lou Turner and Pam Cochell sang, "Love Is A Many-Splendered Thing," accompanied by Judy Cochell at the piano. Her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Spring er, Heppner, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Springer, and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Moore, all of Hood River, and aunt, Mrs. Lincoln Nash were introduced. Also introduced were the mother advisor, Mrs. Paul Webb, past mother advisor, Mrs. Claude Gra ham; Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen, mother advisor of lone; Brenda Young, recorder; Michelle Mor rison, lone worthy advisor; Kathy Rea, new lone worthy ad visor; Don Turner, worshipful master of Heppner lodge, No. 69, A.F.&A.M.; Mrs. Harold Wright, Mrs. Don Turner, Mrs. Lucille Wilson, and Dr. Ed Schaf fitz. Installing officers were: Bev erly Blake, past worthy advisor Shannon Mahoney, marshal Heppner Unit Learns Vegetable Cookery Project loaders, Mrs. R. G. Wat kins, Mrs. Nora Turner, and Leta Humphreys presented the May lesson to la Heppner home ex tension unit members on "Choos ing and Using Western Vege tables," at their meeting Tues day. They prepared various vege table dishes, such as eggplant meat casserole, asparagus wrap ped in luncheon meat, artichokes served hot, baked carrots and parsnips, broccoli with a sauce, Mrs. Watkins and Mrs. Turner prepared the casserole dui'ing the lesson, and the members sampled the dishes during the luncheon at noon. Members discussed the pro grams designated for the 1962 63 vear and the months selected for each. Next meeting of the unit wlil be the second Tuesday in September. After the installation cere monies an addendum honoring the new worthy advisor was given by the line officers and color stations. Ginger was pre sented with a bouquet of arti ficial flowers and a gift from the Ruth assembly. Beverly Blake was presented the past worthy advisor pin from Ginger Springer. Barbara Palmer passed the programs of installat ion ceremonies. The reception followed in the dining room with Mrs. Springer, Mrs. Will O'Harra, Mrs. Bill Ol son, Mrs. Don Turner, Mrs. Ed Schaffitz, and Mrs. Wilbur Van Blokland in charge. The beauti ful pink and white decorated cake was baked by Mrs. Arnold Springer and decorated by Mrs. Harold Wright. Pouring were Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Elmer Springer. The cake was cut and served by Mrs. Van Blokland. Decorations in the dining room carried out the color theme with a centerpiece of turquoise car nations in a silver vase with a silver candelabra and turquoise candles. Coming Events FRIDAY. Maranathas Honor Mothers at Tea IONE The annual Mother daughter tea sponsored by the Maranatha club was held on Saturday, May 12, at the lone Community church. An appropriate program of readings and musical numbers was presented by mothers and their daughters. Recognition was given to sev eral of the mothers present. Mrs. D. W. Aken received a corsage for being the oldest mother present; Mrs. Leland McKinney received one for being the young est mother present; a corsage was presented to Mrs. Arnie Hed man for being the mother who had the youngest baby present; and Mrs. Delia Corson received one for being the mother who will never tell her age. The tea tables were decorated with flowers and tapers in white and shades of rose. Pouring coffee were Mrs. Cleo Drake and Mrs. Fannie Griffith. Mrs. Berl Akers and Mrs. Lloyd Rice served the punch. Bridal Shower Set For Janet Wright Miss Janet Wright, bride-elect of Ralph Litchfield, Portland, will be honored at a bridal show er Thursday, May 24, at the Rhea Creek grange hall. All friends and relatives are invited to the shower starting at 8:00 p. m. They plan to be married June 24 in Heppner. Janet will grad uate this month from nursing school and her fiance is study ing medicine.
