These fa tilitie built at the Umatilla Branch Experiment Station near IlormNton were financed through u!unta:y contributions of live stock m n In the Immediate area. At I Ins organizational meeting the machinery was set up for ai pointing an overall advisory committee and separate commit tecs on beef, sheep and swine. The first of these were held on October 23 when potential trial work projects were discussed with Dr. A. L. Ralston, OSU, re. search animal husbandman. The advisory council of the livestock research center will select re search work w hich will be car tied out from considerations which Included feeding method, economies, of feeding various !' of cattle, fat covering on choice fed cattle, rations using rutin and wheat, alfalfa hay util ization, feeding systems, phys iology of beef cuttle, type, breed and source of feeder cattle, and protein supplements. Arrange ments have been made to secure from growers wearier steer calves. Calves put in the feed lot will tw In the iM lb. weight class. Each producer will introduce 12 head. These will be used for ex perimental purposes charging the owner for feed and a 7c dally yardage charge. The committee will meet again next week at which time Dr. Ralston will be handling and working cattle Into trial number 1. The second day, Bill Southworth, assistant director of the State Department of Agriculture, will discuss weeds, brush and live stock beginning at 9:00 a. m. During the day reports on range weed control studies at which time Medusahead, a new weed threat to ranges In Morrow coun ty will be discussed: the "how" OSU weed research; a discussion of chemical fallow; a report on on weed control In lawns and turf; and a symposium on future new chemicals. A demonstration using the new pour-on systematic insecti cide, was established at the Bob and Herb Peterson ranch near lone last Tuesday.
