They left Sun day to visit his brother and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Con nor in Helix. Mr. Joe Wright and Mrs. Del mar Buschke and boys visited In Portland over the week end. Mr. and Mr. Bernard Damon and family have moved Into the Wlghtman ranch home from Eu gene. Mrs. Damon Is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Gra ham. Thomas, his wife and four daughters, ages 7, 8. 17, and 19. enjoyed the night un der a dripping sky. but the aged family dog refused to leave the car. Thomas Gonty Is an engineer at Boeing. Ed says, -He has a place for everything, always has the projter equipment available, and really knows how to use It. He even makes a picnic In a downpour a de-light." All these teachers have been feted by county and local OEA atherincs and class parties dur- ng closing days of school. one News fo Two From Heppner Atrendina Girls State When Oregon Girls State, the school of citizenship sponsored annually by the American Legion Auxiliary, opened at Willamette University Monday, Heppner was represented by Miss liooy van Scholack and Miss ueveriy oiuive both are hlirh school juniors Th 2sn clrls from all parts of Oregon who are attending Girls State will constitute a myth leal state for one week. Jean Martin Awarded U. P. Scholarship Jean Martin, daughter of Mr. nnrt Mrs. Fredrick Martin, lone, has reee vod the Union Pacific Pflllrna rl scholarship to attend Oregon State University this fall. Miss Martin is a 1961 gradu ate of lone High school. She will study home economics and in tends to enter the teaching pro fession. The scholarship is one of 16 given Oregon 4-11 youths. Wn., have been visiting with his relatives, Archie Esteb and family, of nearby Morgan and with his uncle, Sam Esteb and Mrs. Esteb. Reports For Service IONE A3 Ellis E. Ball, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Ball, re ported for active duty on June 9 at the Burns Air Force Base. Ball spent a 28-day furlough with his parents after his basic and technical schooling at Kees- i,r Miss . was completed. His now duties will involve aircraft and air warning control. Wes Haskett returned Tuesday from Seattle bringing with him his wife and her mother, who will spend some time with the Hasketts. Mrs. Haskett had been In Seattle with her mother while she was ill. Mrs. Ethel ZeimantJ returned home Thursday after spending the week visiting with friends In Portland. Berdell Morrow of Kennewick, Wn., was a guest Saturday at the home of his aunt, Mrs. Mabel Chaffee. Mrs. Hortense Martin. Port land, and Mrs. Anne Smouse and Mrs. Ola Ruggles. Heppner, were dinner guests Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Amanda Du- all.
