Student body officers for next year were elected In April and they are president, Wayne Hams; vice president, Michelle Morrison; secretary treasurer, Cheryl Morrison; assistant secretary-treasurer, Arleta McCabe; paper editor, Steve LIndstrom; annual editor, Judy Sherer. The officers, except the paper and annual editors, attended the re gional student council workshop at La Grande on May 1. They were accompanied by the pros cnt student body president, John Swanson, and Mr. Dallas Shock ley. Mr. Lujan took his business law class to Pendleton on May 1, in order to visit an actual court trial. They also saw the Supreme Court of Oregon all to eether. May 1 has been declar ed as "Law Day, U.S.A." Three high school seniors at tended the annual Music in May festival in Forest Grove on May 4, 5, and 6. Lona White and Jean Martin went as members of the chorus and Marilyn Morgan played In the band. The baseball team, coached by Mr. Shockley, has been doing a verv nice Job with a record of 2 wins and 1 loss. The team trav eled to Umatilla last week, but were rained out so a continued game with Umatilla was sched uled to finish this week. The Girls League has set Thursday, May 11, as the day for the Mothers' Tea. All the moth ers of the students are invited. Eddie Howard Breaks Record In 100-yard Dash By NEAL PENLAND Heppner High cinder boys had a rather successful weekend in the sub-district track meet at Sherman High Saturday after noon. One school record fell as Eddie Howard ran the century In 10.3, The old record was held by Tom Drlscoll. a 1960 graduate, who ran it in 10.5. Dan Brosnan ap proached the school mark in the 220 as he ran it In 24.2 and the record Is 24.1. Jim Steagall gathered In two first places as he ran the 220 yard low hurdles in 21.8 and took the pole vault at the height or 10 feet 6 inches. Howard got second In the 100 with the new school record of 10.3. Heppner's freshman mller, Lee Padberg, took the fourth place spot with a time of 4.58. Archie Ball racked up two second places. He placed in the 120 high hurdles with a time or ie.4 ana tied for second in the high Jump with a height of 5 feet 4 inches. Bruce Moyer placed fourth in the discus with a toss or 111 feet inches. This week end the track team will again go to Sherman for the District 7-A2 meet The boys who Qualify in this meet will then go to Corvallis the next weekend for the state meet VVV.
