Nine year ago they gave $25. 000 grant to the National Men tal Health organization and records show that hundreds of thousand of dollars have been contributed to the National Foun i.mn of infantile paralysis. Many more organizallona and associations have benefited from ntrihutlona from the Legion and the Auxiliary, with a great amount of this Deing aerivea from poppy sales. Hankie Shower Honors Mrs Joe Stewart Last Wednesday evening, the guild of First Christian church met at the home of Mrs Pearl Dovine, with Mrs Delbert Wright as co -host ess. There were 13 members and one visitor, Mrs Melvin Akers, of Vancouver, Wash. After a business meeting and a missionary study of Africa, a social followed. A "hanky tree" with numerous lilac blossoms fastened naturally and several "hankies" made into umbrellas fastened temporarily, was pre sented to Mrs Joe Stewart, as a farewell gift. Whats Trumps Club Has Payoff Bridge Luncheon Wednesday The Whats' Trump club had their year end pay off luncheon at the home of Mrs Lowell Crib ble last Wednesday afternoon. Luncheon was served to Mrs Allen Case, Mrs Earle Blake. Mrs James Thomson. Mrs Mervln Leonard. Mrs P W Mahoney, and Mrs L D Tibbies. The buffet table was centered with an arrariKement of pink carnations and each table had a Dink flower in the center. High School Student Council Entertains Soroptimists Thursday The Sorootimi.st Club of Hep- pner was entertained last Thurs day for lunch by the stuucni council of Heppner high school in the school cafeteria. Joe Stewart, assistant super intendent, welcomed the club and Roseann Ayers, president of the student council, thanked the for havlnc had the senior girls of the high school as guests for each meeting of the club. Tom Drlscoll, this year's stu dent body president, Introduced Bill Monagle the president for 1960-61. Others assisting at the luncheon were Leonore Leonnlg and Carolyn Carter. The grade school trio, Glnny Lou Turner, Pam Cochell, Vir ginia Moore, sang a number for the group. Each year the Soroptlmlst club has a senior girl as a guest each week for their meeting and once a year the school invites the club as guests at a luncheon meeting. Following the recital composer statues were awarded pupils for completing required hours of practice. Delicious refreshments were provided and served by the mothers of the pupils. Virginia Moore and Pam Cochell. sang a number. Mr Robert Pen I and announced the proeram. The guests were greeted at the door by Mrs James Hager and each girl received a corsage. Also each girl and her mother had a polaroid picture taken and presented to them. Mrs Oliver Creswlck poured and Mrs Grace Nlckerson was at the punch bowl. Mrs W C Col lins and Mrs Conley Lanham were on the program committee and all club members assisted with the tea.
