Soroptimist Club Has Christmas Party At Humphreys Home The Soroptimist Club of Hepp ner held the annual Christmas party Friday evening at the home of Miss Leta Humphreys. The rooms were beautiful with Christmas decorations and carols and special music was enjoyed by the group. During the evening the mem bers packed large boxes of home made candy and cookies to be sent to the Veteran's hospital in Walla Walla and also boxes of complete Christmas dinners, which are given to elderly men in the area, who have no families. Miss Humphreys took individ ual pictures of each member of the club to be sent to the Sor optimist Club of Tamworth, Eng land and she also read a letter received from Mrs J R Heathcote, J a past president of the Tam worth club. Refreshments were served later in the evening, featuring birth day cake in honor of Mrs Harry O'Donnell and Mrs E E Gonty. Judy Smith Feted On 13th Birthday Judy Diane Smith, daughter of Mr and Mrs Glenn W Smith, cel ebrated her 13th birthday Sat urday evening, December 19, with a dinner and slumber party at her home. The evening was spent playing games, records, singing and watching TV. A Christmas theme was carried out for the dinner and the base ment playroom was gayly dec orated for the occassion. The girls attending were Bar bara Blake, Lynn Burkenblne, Vicky Barratt, Vicky Kreimeyer, Karen McCurdy, Jean Siewert, Jean Stockard, Tanna- Valentine and Patricia Van Winkle. Monument Tree Has 1000 Lights And Jingle Bells By MARTHA MATTESON Jtiaynard Hamilton has his fir tree all decked out again this year with 1000 lights on it The tree is over 40 Ieet tan, stands in his front yard In town. He also has the Nativity scene and Santa on his sled with eight reindeer. It i3 a lovely picture that can be seen from either hiahuav comins into town. There is the Jingle of bells when the lights are all on, too. Mr and Mrs Ivan Gienger are in visiting his folks the Bob Giengers on Cottonwood, from his training base. Mr and Mrs Stanley Musgraves and Mr and Mrs Rho Bloakman drove to John Day Friday on business. iir and Mrs Dean Enrieht and sons drove to Heppner Sat urday on business. Mr and Mrs Vern McCarty and sons were in John Day on Sat urday. Mr and Mrs Harold Dean Woods of Long Creek were visit ing her folks, the Van Dettas, on Sunday. Mrs Roy Cork was taken to John Day Tuesday for medical aid. Mr and Mrs Henry Martin were in Heppner on business Friday. Mr and Mrs Jim uoker ana son Ronnie and Mrs Pearl Mar tin were in John Day Wednesday on business and for shopping. Mr and Mrs Jack torrest are thi nroud Darents of another son. hnm Mondav. December 14 at the John Day hospital. Both are doing fine and are home now. Mrs Keeling Feted At Surprise Party A surprise birthday party was given Saturday evening honor ing Mrs Kenneth Keeling at the home of Mr and Mrs Elmer Schmidt with Mrs Nels Ander son as co-hostess. The guests were Kenneth Keel ing, Mrs Clem Stockard, Mrs Velma Glass, Merlin Shields, Nels Anderson, Mr and Mrs Andy Van Scholack, Mr and Mrs Ray Smith, Mr and Mrs Bob Abrams, Mr and Mrs Orval Matheny, the Rev and Mrs John Rydgren and Mr and Mrs Don Evans. A smorgasbord was served after which Christmas carols were sung and a reading was given by the Rev Rydgren. Mrs Duval I Hostess For Saturday Dinner Mrs Harry Duvall entertained with a dinner party Saturday evening at her Terrace Drive home. Guests were Mr and Mrs Ber gan Ledbetter, Mr and Mrs Ther on Adlard, Dale and Ivan, and Mr and Mrs Eugene Wardwell and Danny. The Asserlcan Legion m& Auxiliary neia a special meeting at the grange hall Tuesday evening. The Gay "90's" dance will be January 2. The same old good time is promised to all. Mrs Owen Smith and Mrs Harry Scott drove to Heppner Friday. H M Hanson of Long Creek was in town Wednesday on busi ness, then on to Spray that after noon, j The church held its Christmas program and Santa Claus Sun day evening. The Legion and Auxiliary held their Christmas party Saturday night at the grange hall. Mr and Mrs Dick Williams spent Sunday evening down the river visiting the Lewis Neals. Mr and Mrs R K Kingman came in Saturday evening for a week's visit with their folks, Mr and Mrs Elmer Matteson and Mr and Mrs Harry Scott. Mr and Mrs Lilburn Hunt and children of Long Creek were weekend guests at the Sam Scott home. Those seen in John Day Sat urday, from Monmouth, were Mr and Mrs Robert Barrett, Richard Drees and daughter Nicky, Mr and Mrs Bill Gienger and Arthur, Bob Porter, Georgia Stubblefield, Mr and Mrs Robert Covington and Melborne and Mr and Mrs Ray Davis and family. Walter Courter of Willamette, Oregon visited his aunt, Mrs Leo Flowers and family, Sunday night. George Flower, who is a stu dent at Pasadena City College, is spending the holidays with his parents, Mr and Mrs Leo Flower. HEPPNER GAZETTE-TIMES, Thursday, December 24, 1959 Farleys, Andersons Entertain Sunday With Buffet Dinner Sunday evening the home of Mr and Mrs James J Farley was the scene of a Christmas party when the Farley s and Mr and Mrs Frank Anderson entertained about 40 guests. Both the upstairs and the downstairs were gayly and beau tifully decorated, featuring white Christmas trees and gold bells, with a gold centerpiece of bells and cord for the dining room table. During the serving of the buf fet dinner, Christmas music was enjoyed by the group. Koenigs Have Two Christmas Parties Mr and Mrs Paul Koenig en tertained with two Christmas parties at their home through out the week. Monday evening their guests were Mr and Mrs Bill Turner, Mrs Jennie Allgood, Mrs Ger trude Applegate, Mrs Zetta Bros nan, Miss Marguerite Glavey and Father Beard. Wednesday evening their guests were Mr and Mrs Harry O'Donnell, Mr and Mrs Philip Blakney and Mr and Mrs Harry Bongers. IONE NEWS Gene and Larry Rletmann and Lindsav Kincald made a trip to Los Angeles last week by plane and drove home, rney visitea the Robert Rietmanns at La- Habra, Calif and brought Pvt LeRoy Brenner home from San Francisco. Brenner is stationed at Fort Ord and is on a leave The fire truck was called out Saturday morning to put out a fire in the Herbert Ekstrom's house on Main street which was caused from an electric heater being too close to a wall. Very little damage was done. Mr and Mrs Ted Peterson and family of Arlington were visitors at the Ted Palmateer home Sunday. (greeting?
