Nine tables were in play in the afternoon with the prizes going to Mrs Earl Blake for high, Mrs Paul Jones for second high, Mrs Harold Cohn for low, and Mrs Claude Graham the door prize. In the evening, wilh eleven tables in play, high prize was won by Mrs Robert Abrams, sec ond high by Mrs Creston Robin son, low was by Mrs James Mai Ion and Mrs Don Bellenbrock won the door prize. Mrs Blake Hostess For Bridge Club Mrs Earl Blake entertained the Whats Trumps bridge club last Wednesday afternoon at a salad luncheon. Guests were Mrs Clarence Rosewall, Mrs L D Tibbies, Mrs Claude Graham, Mrs Lowell Gribble, Mrs Raymond Ferguson, Mrs E K Schaffitz, Mrs Allen Case and Mrs Robert Penland. Mrs Graham received high score, Mrs Ferguson was second high and Mrs Gribble low. The next meeting of the club will be the annual Christmas party on December 9 at the home of Mrs Allen Case. Carnation Club Makes Plans For Christmas Project Last Thursday evening, Mrs Lincoln Nash entertained the Carnation club at her home. Mrs Oma Cox was co-hostess. Dur ing the business meeting plans were made for our Christmas project which is collecting tea towelis for Camp Columbia also a report was given about the district convention at John Day recently. Fifteen members atten ded the convention and shared in the work. Two of the young members, Jimmy Farra and Jay Slratton, were graduated from the junior lodge and Initiated into the adult lodge. The drill team also put on a drill. After the meeting closed a Dutch auction was held and 'Oma Cox won the door prize. Delicious refreshments were ser ved to 14 members. What with the three Achievement parties at Heppner, Boardman, and Irrigon; the Mor row County Grain Growers' roast beef dinner on Monday night, November 16: The county N H D C luncheon at lone on Wed nesday; the 4-H leaders lunch eon at the Wagon Wheel on Sat urday; family potluck at the Hope Lutheran church on Sun day and the Farm-City banquet in Heppner on this past Monday Man! I'm worrying about my waistline! It surely shows you that all occasions business or social are surely hinged on the con sumption of food. Mrs Lowe Has High Score At Pinochle Mrs Fred Mankin was hostess for her pinochle club Friday af ternoon at her home and gucsis were Mrs Earl Evans, Mrs A S Watkins, Mrs Walter Bocket, Mrs Ben Anderson, Mrs Max Harris, Mrs Bob Lowe, and Mis Max Buschke. High prize for the afternoon was won by Mrs Lowe, low was won by Mrs Harris and double pinochle was won by Mrs Wat kins and Mrs Anderson. Kathy Melby Has Eleventh Birthday Kathy Melby celebrated her eleventh birthday with a party at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs Arnold Melby, Fri day evening. Her guests Included both fifth grade classes, After ice cream and cake were enjoyed Kathy and her class mates attended the show. Heppner ites Attend Condon Reception A reception was held Saturday night at the gymnasium of the Condon grade school, honoring Florence Jeager, associate grand conductress of Order of the Eas tern Star. Mrs Paul Jones, worthy matron of Ruth chapter no 32, Heppner, poured. Others from here atten ding were Mr and Mrs Oliver Creswick, Mr and Mrs Dick Wil kinson, Mrs J R Huffman, Mr and Mrs Harold Becket, Mrs L D Tibbies and Mrs Roy Quack-enbush. Duplicate Club Meets At Wolff Home The Duplicate bridge club met at the home of Dr and Mrs Wal lace Wolff Sunday evening. Those attending were Mr and Mrs LaVeme Van Marter, Mr and Mrs Dick Meador, Mr and Mrs C E McQuarrie, Mr and Mrs Lowell Gribble, Mr and Mrs Gor don Pratt, Mr and Mrs Bill Col lins, Mrs Bill Blake and Mrs Dave Wilson. Dinner Party Fetes Eighth Birthday Thursday evening Billy Wolff celebrated his eighth birthday with a dinner party at the home of his parents, Dr and Mrs Wal lace Wolff. Billy's guests were Kevin Dick, Bobby Abrams, LaVeme Van Marter III, Ricky Howell, Shelley, Kolloy and Tommy Wolff. Soroptimists Hear Reports on District Meeting At LaGrande Mrs John Pfeiffer, president and Miss Leta Humphreys, reg ional representative of the Sor optimist Club of Heppner, gave their reports on the district meet ing held in LaGrande in October, at the Thursday meeting of the club. Birthday cake was served in honor of Mrs Roice Fulleton, Mrs Clara B Gertson, Mrs Grace Nickerson and Mrs Lucy Rod- gers. There will be no meeting on Thanksgiving day and the first meeting in December will be the regular monthly business meet ing. Countv acent, Joe Hay, and I were supper guests at the Ver non Gerberdlng home at Irrigon on Tuesday night when we pre sented 4-H pins to the club mem bers of that area. The GerDer ding's have four young children ranging from a daughter, age 13, and three sons, eight, six and two. I thoroughly enjoyed the family as they remind me a great deal of my sister's fam ily. Mrs Gerberding was quite disturbed that the children call ed me "Esther" when she wan ted them to say "Miss Kirmis". Of course, why I was a "Miss" was a mvsterv to them they thought Joe and I were Mr and Mrs (Poor Joe)! When Norma (Mrs Gerberdine) tried to ex plain the situation to the kids, we all ended up howling with laughter. (These things you learn to expect in extension work). Little two-year old Bobby is a livewire. When I asked if they watched "Dennis the Menace" on TV, Vernon Gerberding, an adjutant at Ordnance, said they didn't need to watch it as they had a little "Dennis" in their own family. Mrs Gerberding is the program chairman for the Irrigon P-TA and had made arrangements for our 4-H presentation. The weather cut down the at tendance at our county N H D C luncheon at Stefani's in lone Wednesday. The luncheon gave an opportunity for the Morrow county women who attended the National Home Demonstration Convention in Portland In Oct ober to report back to Interested homemakers. It was an enjoyable meeting and several of the alumni county committee women there express ed interest in an alumni group in the county. Twenty-one 4-H leaders atten ded the 4-H leaders meeting In the annex building of the Hepp ner fair pavilion on Saturday, November 21. Miss Lois Redman's presen tation of "Understanding Boys and Girls" was especially en joyed. With the use of a film and visuals Miss Redman show ed the characteristics of children between the ages of 9-12. At the beginning of her presenta tion she asked the leaders to list the traits of an ideal 4-H member and then the things a hmit rhildren that annoyed them most. It was surprising that the things that annoy adults mosi about children are the normal behavior of young children In their process of growing up. "A good 4-H leader," conclud ed Miss Redman, "Is a person who likes children, has patience, doesn't expect too mucn, ana treats each child as an individ ual." We answered roll call by namine a material. We got our flags from Veda Brenner. Our next meeting will be inov 18 at Cheryl Corley's and Dec 1 at Marilee Leather s, ana men after December we will have our meetings the second Tuesday and fourth . Saturday of every month. We measured ourselves to see what size pattern we need. Cher- yle Lundell took over song leader. We decided to close our meet ings with a song.
