To paz is a semi -precious stone and ranks number 8 on the scale of hardness it is known for its great hardness. Its color is char acteristically yellow, from a can ary yellow to a deep orange; but is also found in blue, green, smoky, white or colorless. Brazil's "precious topaz" is wine-yellow and is sometimes altered to a delicate pink by heating. If you should eer get to Siberia there are large rich blue crystals and magnificent transparent, brown cr y s t a 1 s which rank among the finest of all mineral specimen. The gem stone, Zircon, was described by Betty Wagner. It commonly occurs as reddish- brown or erav and not in frequently, yellow, red or color less, rarely blue or green, in Florida. Sorry that none or these localities are listed in Oregon! The artificially colored, sky-blue gems ("starlite") of Slam are pxceDtionallv attractive and the color is obtained by special heat ing processes. Due to their high index of refraction Zircon gems, when colorless, much resemble the diamond. Our hosts, the Edgers, put the finishing touch on the evening with lovely refreshments. By vote of the order the meet ings will be changed to meet on the Sunday afternoon follow- ing the third Saturday in jJec timber. January and February. However, the December meeting will be December 13 owing to a conflict with the church Christ mas program. There will be a potluck din ner preceedlng each of the Sun day meetings. The HE club Is joining the grange in a Christ mas party for members and their families on the 13th. The club will supply the treats. Lin- Lexington News The Mother's Club surprised Mrs Johnnie Ledbetter at her home one night last week with a cradle shower. The honoree re ceived some beautiful and use ful gifts from the following members, Mrs Luclle Peck, Mrs Leila Palmer, Mrs Jean Nelson, Mrs Helen Nelson, and Mrs Mar tha Barak. Holly Rebekah lodge met at the regular time on Thursday night at the I00F hall. Election of officers for the coming year was held with June Davidson da Halvorsen, pianist. At the HE club meeting on Fri day the members decided to paint the kitchen and dining room. They recently purchased an electric stove to replace the gas stove they have been using. The club officers for the fol lowing year are, president, Ma bel Ring; vice president, Geneva Palmer; secretary, Mary Lind say and treasurer, Mary Lundell. Mrs Berl Akers entertained the club at her home with dinner at 12:30. She was asssited by Edith Matthews. Cakes made honoring Freda Majeske and LaVerne Henderson were served. A guest for the evening was Mrs Mary McMur try of Heppner. Practice on the program for Christmas at the Sunday school and church has started with the first practice of the youth choir being held on Monday at 7 p m at the church. Mrs Roberta Davis and Mrs Carl Marquardt are practicing the youngsters. Man lf UU HK8 IONE SEWING CLUB A group of four 4th grade girls and three 5th grade girls met Wednesday, November 18 at the lone school for the purpose of organizing a 4-H sewing club for first and second year sewing. Our leaders are Mrs L F Lea thers and Mrs Harold Snider. Officers elected were; Kathy Keeno, president; Pamela Proud foot, vice president; Berniece Matthews, secretary; Denlece Matthews, reporter; Renee Lea thers, song leader. The meetings will be held first and third Thursdays of each month at 3:45 p m. Our next meeting will be at the Leathers' home on Dec 3. The girls who joined besides the officers are Terry O'Connor and Janice Snider. Denlece Matthews, reporter The club met at the home of Nonda Clark.
