Octobw 29, 1959 Hawaii Studied By Boardman Unit : By MARY LEE MARLOW "Let's Study Hawaii" was the subject of the meeting of the county extension unit Tuesday of last week at the home of Mrs Rollin Bishop. Esther Kirmls, county extension agent, Heppner, was in charge and gave an In teresting outline of our 50th state. She showed slide pictures taken by Mrs Norman Nelson, Lexington, when she was on tour in Hawaii, and had on exhibit shell necklaces, a hula skirt and other objects from Hawaii. The meeting began at 10:30 a m, and luncheon was served at noon. Mrs Walter Hayes was co-hostess. Guests were Mrs J Finch, Tacoma, Wash, and Mrs Clyde Shamhart, Olney, 111. Mrs Flossie Coats, postmaster was in Gaston over the weekend for the meeting of the first dis trict of the Oregon branch of National League of Postmasters. Mrs Florence Root accompanied her. Sunday they stopped in Port land to visit Mrs Coat's aunt, Mrs Mary Sowers, and her cous ins, Mr and Mrs Floyd Barlow. Mrs Joe Tatone, 3rd vice-pres-iden of the Oregon , Federation of Women's Clubs, was in En terprise last week to meet with the board of the Wallowa coun ty Junior Womens Club at the home of the presdlent, Mrs Wil liam Whitaker. Mrs Robert, Carey LaGrande, accompanied h'er. Sunday visitors at the home of Mr and Mrs Elvin Ely were tielr sons-in-law and daughters, Mr and Mrs Eldon Lilly and chlidren Jlmmle, Janet, Jerry and Jay of La Grande, and Mr and Mrs Newell Vaught and daugh ters Gail and Kelly of Richland, Wash. Other visitors were Mr and Mrs William Lilly of Rleth. Mr and Mrs Zearl Gillespie and Mr and Mrs Elmer Messen ger were in Mitchell last week deer hunting, and visiting at the home of Mr and Mrs Truman Messenger, Sr. Mr and Mrs Harold Marlow of Union were Sunday visitors at the home of Marlow's parents, Mr and Mrs Frank Marlow. Mrs Frank Marlow visited her aunt, Mrs Ernest Zerba, in Walla Walla, Wasii Friday and Satur day, and her sister, Mrs Clarence Thomas, who was visiting there from Rifgins, Idaho. Mrs Allen Ely was hostess for a party at her home Monday afternoon in honor of her son Ricky's fourth birthday. Guests were Mrs Virgil Osborne and Margie, and Mrs Bullard and Darcy, of Hermiston, Mrs Elvin Ely, Diane Rash, Mrs Tom Dix on and Mary and Phillip, Mrs Erwin Flock and Charma Lee and Frankie, Mrs Russell Miller and grandsons Ronnie and Ran dy Baker, Mrs Clyde Shamhart, Mrs Bob Sicard and Roberta, Mrs Bob Thornhill and Aria and Tina, Mrs Vernon Russell and Bruce and Dornie, Mrs Delbert Ball and Susie and Linda, and Mrs Delmer Hug and Debbie and Pam. The Ladies Aid Society of Com munity church had an all day work meeting at the church last week. Mrs Florence Root was hos tess. The ladies cleaned the church basement, and rolled bandages for Margery Benedict, missionary to French Ecuador, Africa. Mr and Mrs Bob Miller, Mr and Mrs Russell Miller and Mr and Mrs Clyde Shamhart, guests of the Millers from Olney, 111 were all guests for dinner at the home of the Russell Miller's son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Vern Carpenter, in La Grande Sunday. Mr and Mrs Shamhart left for their home In Olney, 111, Tues day after visiting at both Miller homes for the past several weeks. They will go by way of San Francisco, Calif to visit relatives. Mr and Mrs Clyde Tannehill have returned home from a three weeks visit at the home of their son and daughter-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Don Tan- Lexington News The 0 W Cutsforth ranch was the scene Friday night of a sur prise party honoring Butch Eatch of Portland. Guests for the evening were the lone high school. The evening was spent in dancing, and later refresh ments were served. The hosts for the evening were Greg and Hugo Leyva and Charlene Jones. Guests of Mr and Mrs Cutsforth on Friday evening were Mr and Mrs George Irvln, Helen Leyva, and Mr and Mrs Cecil Jones. Miss Dona Barnett, Mrs Trina Parker and their guest for the day, Mrs Ralph Jackson of Her-, mlston, were guests of Mrs Katie Yarnell at her home in lone, one day last week. Mr and Mrs Franklin Miles and children are moving this week to Pendleton where he Is employed. Mr Gar Leyva and son Hugo attended a chemical school in Yakima on Monday and Tues day of this week. The Lexington P-TA met at the school auditorium on Tues day night of last week. The meet ing was presided over by the president, Mrs Em Peck. The en tertainment for the evening was a skit put on by members of the "Tops" club. Following the meeting refreshments were ser ved in the cafeteria. Mrs Norma Wheeler of Pendle ton was a recent house guest of Mr and Mrs New't O'Harra. Mrs Smith Merrltt of Baker was a dinner guest on Tuesday with her niece and family, Mr and Mrs Cecil Jones. Mr and Mrs Wilbur Steagall were visitors at the home f his sister and family, Mr and Mrs Jack Sitton of Klnzua last week. Mr and Mrs George Steagall were weekend visitors with Mr and Mrs Jim Stlrwalt of Kimber- Mr and Mrs 0 G Breeding have returned after visiting their daughters in Yamhill and Rose- burg. t I " I nehlll, in La Grande, taking care of their grandson Jimmy while the Tannehlll's were on vacation. Mr and Mrs Ronald Haas have returned home from a two week9 vacation trip to the San Fer nando Valley in California vis iting relatives.
