Josephine Thompson, Sodcd Reporter Rodney Flug Honored At Farewell Party Friday evening of last week the Junior class of Heppner high school honored Rodney Flug with a farewell party with Doris Mor ris, Nancy Moyer and Mary Slo cum as chairmen. The party was a no-host swim ming party at the Heppner swim ming pool from 8:30 to 10:00 p m with about thirty-five stu dents attending. Mrs Sue Vincent and daugh ter Frances and Mrs Mary Da vis, sister of Mrs Frank Parker, were guests. It was decided at this meet ing to sell refreshments at the Rhea Creek princess dance, Aug lust 1. mere will be no H E C or grange meetings during the month of August. The Septem ber HEC will meet at the home of Mrs Claud White for an all day meeting. Special Committee Named For Float By Soroptimists Mrs C E McQuarrie, Mrs Oliver Creswick and Mrs Robert Pen land were named co-chairman of the float committee for the Soroptimist Club of Heppner, by the club president, Mrs John Pfeiffer, at the Thursday noon meeting at the Wagon Wheel. Group singing was enjoyed by the group, led by Mrs Conley Lanham with Mrs -McQuarrie at the piano. Renegers Club Meets At Meador Home THe Renegers bridge club was entertained at the home of Mrs Dick Meador Wednesday even ing of last week. Guests were Mrs Gordon Pratt, Mrs Eddie Gunderson, Mrs James Farley, " Mrs Bill Labhart, Mrs Frank Anderson, Mrs Gene Hall and Mrs Alex Thompson. High score for the evening was held by Mrs Hall, second by Mrs Labhart, and low was won by Mrs Gunderson. Refreshments were served the end of the evening. Mrs Ward Has High" Score At Bridge Club Mrs Paul Koenig was hostess for her bridge club the Kings' Little Queens Thursday evening of last week. Those attending were Mrs Herb Hamilton, Mrs Les Wyman, Mrs Pat O'Brien, Mrs Harry O'Don nell, Mrs Bill Glennie, Mrs Bill Blake, Mrs John Williams, Mrs Philip Blakney, Mrs Bill Sowell, Mrs Jerry Daggett, Mrs Clint Mc Quarrie and Mrs Glen Ward. Mrs Ward won high prize for the evening, Mrs Williams won second high, and low was won by Mrs Hamilton. The traveling prize was won by Mrs Wyman. Mrs Lowe Hostess For Pinochle Club Mrs Robert Lowe entertained her pinochle club Friday after noon at her home. Those enjoying cards were Mrs Earl Evans, Mrs Fred Mankln, Mrs Walter Becket, Mrs Ben An derson, Mrs Orin Wright, Mrs Henry Happold and Mrs Max Buschke. Mrs Evans won the high prize for the afternoon, Mrs Lowe won low, and the double pinochle prize was won by Mrs Happold and Mrs Evans. Refreshments were served. Mike Hutchison Funeral Services Held At Monument Shower Given For Mrs John Rydgren The women of Valby Lutheran church gave a shower In honor of Mrs John Rydgren and son John Carl, at the Oscar Peterson home Friday afternoon, July 17. Refreshments were served from a table decorated with blue delphinium and blue candles. Mrs Mary Swanson served the punch and Mrs Anna Lindstrom the coffee. Mrs William Rawlins assisted with the gifts. Former Heppnerites Honored At Barbecue A potluck barbecue was given at the home of Mr and Mrs Bob Jones Saturday evening honor ing Mr and Mrs Ray Myrick, formerly of Heppner. Those attending were Mr and Mrs Dave Eckman, Mr and Mrs at Elwayne Bergstrom and Mrs Vel- ma Glass. Cards were enjoyed later In the evening. He was a member of the L D S church. Mike served in World War II seeing active service in Luzon and he received five dif ferent medals during his service. On his return home he met and married June Whitaker at her home in Elba, Idaho on October 24, 1946. They moved to Monument March 1953 where he has worked for the Columbia Power Co-op ever since. He was accldently killed Wed nesday noon, July 15 near Mon ument while stringing wire to improve television service for the community. His survivors are his wife, June; two daughters, Diane and Lynn; two sons, Forrest and Sheldon and a son, David Wayne, preceeded him in death; his par ents, Mr and Mrs D W Hutch ison; two sisters, Mrs Alora Tyn er and Veida Barrett; one bro ther, E Udell Hutchison. Services were held In the Mon ument gym Saturday at z:w p m by Drlskill Mortuary of John Day. Speakers were from the John Day LDS Church, singers from the choir here and Jack Chan sang the solo, The Lord's Prayer. Pallbearers were Bob King man, Bob Neel, Sonny Heise, Nor- ns Stubblefield, Van Richards, Jack Sweek. Honorary pallbear ers were Dick Williams, Dick Heise, Ivan Smith, Charles Van Detta, Jack Cavader, Clarence Holmes, Henry Cupper, Bill Chap man, Bob Holmes, Wayne Leath ers, B S Spain. The Legion acted at the cem etery. Miss Leah Mahrt who Is em ployed at the Oregon State li brary in Salem, came in the 12th to spend her vacation at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs W F Mahrt on Deer creek. Mable Howell returned home Boardman News Mr and Mrs Bill Califf and children Matt, Stevie, Renee and Vickie of Estacada were week end visitors at the home of Mrs Califf's mother, Mrs Louise Ear- wood, and her brother-in-law and sister, Mr and Mrs Don Downey. Other visitors were Mrs Earwood's brother and sister-in law, Mr and Mrs Rudolph Meinke of Arlington, and Down ey's parents, Mr and Mrs Earl Downey, and Lynn and Luella Larson of Prosser, Wash. Mr and Mrs Elvin Ely went to Emigrant State Park Sunday afternoon for a picnic with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Eldon Lilly and children Jimmie, Janet, Jay and of LaGrande. Roll call was answered by giving the name of a "fall flower I like." Mrs Louise Earwood Will receive a gift for perfect attendance dur ine the club year 1958-59. It was voted to continue giving gifts for attendance in the year 1959-60. Mrs Algy Taylor presented a program on the time of planting and the care of irises. Mr and Mri Clyde Tannel spent the weekend in Klamath Falls visiting at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs Keith Tannehill, Mr and Mrs Edward Miller are the parents of a daughter born July 19 at Good Shepherd hos pital In Hermiston. She has been named Vickie Marie. Grandpar- Jerry j ents are Mr and Mrs Gordon I Jenkins of Anacortes, wasn, Ed ast week from Portland where she had been for medical at tention, the past two weeks. Mrs Joe Wheeler returned from Pendleton this week. She had been there to consult a doctor, Mr and Mrs Robert Kingman of Alturas, Calif came In Friday nignt and spent the weekend with friends and relatives. On their return home Sunday night they were accompanied by her nephew, Robert Dale Scott, for a visit with them. Mr and Mrs Pete Christerson and children of Portland, spent their vacation here with his mo ther, Helen Brown. Miss Gracie Hunt is employed at the home of Mrs Dottle Smith. Mr and Mrs Jack Chan and daughter returned home Friday evening from the youth camp at Mahama, Oregon, where they had been the past two weeks. Mr and Mrs Boyd Hinton, Hen ry Durst, Mr and Mrs Earl Bar nard and Mr and Mrs Theron King and son Frank Earl drove to John Day Wednesday for the final rites of Ira Barnard of Mt Vernon, who passed away July 11 at his summer home in Gran ite. He was a brother of Earl Barnard of Monument. Miller of Chicago, 111, and Betty Suggs of Oakland, Calif. The baby weighed seven pounds, eight ounces. Mr and Mrs Arthur Allen at tended the Washington State Square Dance Festival in Aber deen, Wash the last of the week and also visited at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs Gene Allen, In Seat tle, Wash. Mr and Mrs George Wiese also attended the Festival at Aber deen, and this week are vaca tioning at Seaside. Mr and Mrs Frank Marlow left by train Monday night for Port land, where Marlow will be a patient In St Vincent's hospital for two weeks for treatment on his back. Mrs Marlow will re turn home Wednesday. Lorelei Hamilton is visiting In Bellingham, Wash at the home of her cousin, Mr and Mrs Virgil Wehmoyer (Louise Crockett).
