July 9, 1959 Reception Honors M V Nolans at Lexington Church By DELPHA JONES Miss Phyllis Nolan and sister, Mrs Frank Miles, and brother Verne Nolan entertained on Sun day at the Christian church par lors in Lexington with a recep tion honoring their parent's, Mr and Mrs M V Nolan on their 25th anniversary. The color theme chosen for the affair was pink and white with a large pink daisy sprinkled with silver ar rangement at the tea table. A lovely sheet cake was made and decorated by the daughters, and was topped with a double wedding ring and lattice work with pink roses and silver decor ations. Those at the cake table were, Mrs Oris Padberg, Lexington and Mrs James Lindsay of lone and Mrs John Bergstrom of Hepner. Those serving at the coffee table were, Mrs Bertha Hunt, Lexing ton, Mrs Herb Ekstrom of lone and Mrs Bill Farra of Heppner, and at the punch bowl, were Mrs Roy Campbell of Lexington, Mrs Omar Rietmann of lone, and Mrs Thnta Rtrnttnn rif ITftnnnpf uith I Mrs LaVerne Hend e r s o n In charge of the guest book. Those assisting about the rooms which were decorated with sweet peas and snap dragons were Mrs Jim Peck, Lexington, Mrs Harold Peck and Mrs Bill Farra. Those from out of town call ing were: Mr and Mrs William Simon and children of Clarkston, Wash, Mr and Mrs Harold Peck, of Heppner, and Mr and Mrs Don Peck and family of Pilot Rock and a host of friends and relatives. I Mr and Mrs Walter Smith and 'daughters were weekend visitors in John Day. Mr and Mrs Kenneth Marshall have returned home after a few days spent near Redmond where they enjoyed some fine fishing. Mr Burt Peck Is a patient In Pioneer Memorial hospital. Gary Miller returned to Lex Thursday after a trip to Tennes see with his parents, Mr and Mrs W I Miller. Mr and Mrs Glenn Griffith and sons of Ephrata were Lexing ton visitors on Sunday. Their son Mike remained at the C C Jones home for a few days. Mr and Mrs O G Breeding were Spray visitors over the 4th of July holidays. Mrs Davis a teacher in the lo cal school has purchased the Trina Parker house and is doing some extensive remodeling. Mrs Bertha Hunt and son Don ald were Willamette Valley vis itors over the holidays. Dinner guests at the 0 W Cuts forth cabin on the 4th were Dr and Mrs Pfeiffer of Heppner, Mr and Mrs C C Jones and children, Judy Darnielle, Mr and Mrs Johnnie Ledbetter and children and Mr and Mrs Max Breeding. Mrs Clarence Hays and daugh ter Doanna, returned to their home in Corvallis after a few days visit with her parents, Mr and Mrs Earl Warner. Mr and Mrs George E Irvln and family spent the weekend in Gilchrist, Oregon. Mr and Mrs Charlie Padberg are the proud parents of a baby girl born In Pioneer Memorial hospital one day last week. Mr and Mrs Pat Cutsforth are the proud parents of a baby boy named Jeffrey Patrick born at Pioneer Memorial hospital last week. Mr and Mrs Carl Allyn of Port land visited his mother and fam ily, Mrs Cora Allyn, and Mrs Allyn's relatives in Heppner over the holidays. Mrs Kenneth Palmer, Mrs Wm J Van Winkle, Mrs Walter Smith and Mrs C C Jones attended the hospital auxiliary meeting In lone on Monday night. At this meeting a most instructive film on the care of bed patients was shown. Mr and Mrs E E Peck were Portland visitors on Tuesday. Mr and Mrs William J Van Winkle and family enjoyed a fishing trip over the holidays. Mrs George E Irvin Is a patient in Pioneer Memorial hospital suf fering from a tonsilectomy on Tuesday. Word was received in Lexing ton by Mrs Bertha Hunt of the death of Rev. Paul Mortimer, minister of the Christian church at Ellensburg. Mr Mortimer Is the husband of Hulda Tucker one time resident of Lexington. DR. Mrs Edna Moore and children and Mr and Mrs Slim Owings spent the 4th at the Bob Holmes ranch on Deer creek. Carlyle Stewart is visiting over the holidays at the Stanley Musgrave ranch. David Conklin in spending the week in Monument. He Is em ployed in the Kinzua mill for the summer. Mr and Mrs Kenneth Rounds and children of Dawille spent the weekend at the Charles Van detta home. Mrs Dick Williams and Mr and Mrs Glenn Williams and daugh ter drove to Pendleton Wednes day for medical attention. Mrs Elmo Lewis was rushed to the John Day hospital Sunday. She was very 111 in a diabetic coma. Mr and Mrs Darrell Farrens left Thursday for Portland and plan to visit the Centennial. They are making their home in Heppner (Coles Studio) rell's mother, accompanied them. Mr and Mrs Joe Batty and daughter Kay, of La Grande spent the weekend at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs H A Cupper. Leo and George Flowers drove to John Day Tuesday for check ups. Mrs Bernice Wyatt and Mrs Jessie Scott drove to Long Creek Wednesday on business. Mrs Doris Capon and Mrs Olive Cox drove to Bend Thursday on business. Mr and Mrs Roy Cork drove to Bend Friday with their two grandchildren. The children's parents, Mr and Mrs Joe Simas of Roseburg met them there and all took in the water pageant. Mr and Mrs Earl Barnard vis ited at the George Capon ranch Friday. Alonzo Merrill returned from Roseburg where he visited his sister, Jane De Vore. He had been in the Hermiston hospital. Mr and Mrs Dick Williams spent the weekend visiting the Melvin Rounds and the Bob Les lies. Mr and Mrs Bill Garder and children of Walla Walla spent the weekend with Mr and Mrs Elmer Mattoson and son Dale. Mrs Cowdon and granddaugh ter Patsy Noland, drove up from Portland Wednesday to"1" Mrs Ernie Johnson who had spent six weeks In Portland and Vancouver doctoring. The election for a new 5 room grade school passed Wednesday. Aubrey Crum who has been ill at the John Day clinic for the past 10 days expects to be able to return to Monument the first of the week. Mr and Mrs Ansel Martin and son Gary of Prinevllle, Richard Martin, Mr and Mrs Jim Croker and son Ronnie were dinner guests at the Henry Martin home the 4th. Miss Sharon Hinton and Miss Carolyn Martin came from Port land to Pendleton the air way and were met by Boyd Hinton Friday. They returned to school Sunday with Mr and Mrs Robert Gertson who are attending sum mer school there. Mr and Mrs Ivan Smith and daughter, and Mr and Mrs Mike Tintrhison and four children spent the weekend at Susan ville. Mr and Mrs Jack Chan and daughter, Nancy left Sunday for two weeks at the youtn camp at Mehama. Mr and Mrs Tony Wyatt and Mr and Mrs Harry Scott and son Robert Dale spent the 4th at Pet erson Rock Gardens near Red mond. Gi-ry Allen Martin of Prinevllle is spending the weekend here with his grandparents, the Ernie Johnsons and the Henry Martins. Maynard Hamilton has fin ished putting plywood and tile on the upstairs and back rooms of the Community church. Mr and Mrs Elmer Matteson and Mrs Jessie Scott and son drove to John Day Friday. H M Hanson of Long Creek was In town Monday on business. Dale and Grade Hunt spent the weekend visiting friends and relatives at Kinzua and Fossil Mable Howell was taken to Portland last week for medical treatment SEW AND MODEL A meeting was held at the home of Jean Martin on Tues day of last week. There were seven girls present with two ab sent The main purpose of the meet ing was to help all of the girls with anything they may be hav ing trouble with. The girls also learned how to make bound but ton holes. The next meeting will be held at the home of Karen Lundell on July 7.
