HEPPNER GAZETTE-TIMES, Thursday, April 30. 1959 Dad, Son Banquet Held at Boardman By MARY LEE MARLOW The second annual Father and Son banquet was held Saturday night In the school cafeteria, with 40 guests present. The af fair Is for boys of the four upper grades and their fathers, and is sponsored by the girls of those grades under the supervision of Mrs John Partlow. Other guests were Sigvald Aase, school super intendent, Ronald Black, Rich ard Waymire, Marion Morlan, Harold Gauger and Wayne Kuhn. The latter has refereed grade school games this year. Johnnie Partlow was master of ceremonies, and Roy Partlow gave the response. The program Included a clarinet duet by Brenda Billings and Eileen Ely, a saxophorfe duet by Patti Part low and Dewena West, and an accordian solo by Linda White man. Richard Waymire presented first year letters in athletics to Dennis Gronquist, Dennis Ander son, Jim Partlow, Steve Partlow, Gary Beeler and Jim Brothers; two year letter to Jim Hoffman and a three year to Johnnie Part low. Letters were also presented to the yell leaders, Sandra Thorpe, Anna May McQuaw and Dorothy Rash. A spring motif was used In decorations In green and yellow, with tulips and narcissus. Mrs Richard Waymire was elected president of the county extension unit at the meeting at the home of Mrs Russell Mil ler Tuesday of last week. Mrs Nathan Thorpe was elected vice president, and Mrs G C Deits secretary-treasurer. Subject of the meeting was "Beaded Tile Craft," with Mrs Deits and Mrs Waymire leaders. A collection was taken for the Eleanor Trindle Memorial Schol arship fund. The next meeting will be at Soroptmists And Guests Enjoy Dinner About 40 members and guests of the Soroptimist club of Hepp ner enjoyed a tasting dinner at Fulleton Chevrolet Co showroom Monday evening. The individual tables were centered with arrangements of spring flowers. Mrs Ralph Skoubo and Mrs Marion Morlan, who will be the leaders, went to Heppner last Wednesday to a leader's meeting. Dr A D McMurdo and Velma Glass, county health nurse from Heppner were at the Boardman school Tuesday of last week to give immunization shots. They were assisted by Mrs Ronald Black and Mrs Dewey West. A total of about 40 were given, one small pox, 9 DPT, 10 polio and 10 typhoid. Mrs Ronald Black was hostess for a party at her home last week in honor of the sixth birth day of her daughter Diane. Mr and Mrs Leo Potts went to Sunnyside, Wash Sunday to visit at the home of Mr and Mrs Will Webber. Mrs Webber and Potts are cousins. Mrs Louis Earwood and daugh ters Shirley and Mrs Don Downey and son Wayne and Jerry went to Arlington Sunday to visit at the home of Mrs Earwood's bro ther and sister-in-law, Mr and Mrs Otto Steinke. Mr and Mrs Darrel Rash and daughter Valerie of Portland were weekend visitors at the homes of their parents, Mr and Mrs Henry Zivney and Mr and Mrs Harold Rash. Mr and Mrs Elvin 'Ely and daughter Eileen spent Sunday afternoon In Pasco, Wash, visit ing at the home of Mr and Mrs Charlie Wooley. Saturday visitors at the home of Mr and Mrs Ray Gronquist were Mr and Mrs Walter Turner and children Gay, Jeff and Scott of Pilot Rock. Mr and Mrs Woody Malone and children have moved to Uma tilla. Mrs Albertine LIckess of Port land is visiting at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Ernest Obermeier. Mrs Richard Waymire attend ed a nurses workshop in eco nomlc security at the Sacred Heart hospital in Eugene last week. She was accompanied by Mrs B J Berger of Echo. Two Boardman residents were injured In separate accidents last week. Mrs Jim Watkins was hos pitalized at Good Shepherd hos pital in Hermlston with a bad ly Injured left hand, suffered when she lost control of the pickup she was driving on the Lexington cutoff road, and It turned over. One finger was sev ered at the first joint and an other badly mangled. Her five children were with her, but none were hurt. Bill Mead was hos pitalized with a broken collar bone which he received In a mo torcycle accident. Bob Stewart who was riding with him, re ceived bruises and an Injured leg. Mr and Mrs James J Farley were in Pendleton Saturday ev ening. Mrs Margaret Healy ac companied them and visited with her son Patrick Healy and his family for the weekend. On their way home they stopped in Portland to visit their aunts, Mrs Mary Sowers and Mrs Clara Stratton, and their cousins, Mr and Mrs Floyd Barlow and Mr and Mrs Wendall Noe. Mr and Mrs Arthur Allen went to La Grande Saturday to attend the Pioneer PowWow Days cele bration, taking their American Saddler sorrel horse to pull the surrey in which the queen and her court rode. Mrs Arthur Allen, Mrs G C Diets and Mrs Arnold Hoffman J attended the lecture on land scaping in Heppner last Thurs day by Willard S Summer, as sistant professor of horticulture from W S C, Pullman, Wash. Mrs Llndstrom's served refresh ments. We all had a good time. Jim Tullis, reporter IONE LIVESTOCK CLUB Our fifth meeting was held at Don McElligott's on March 22. For roll call every member gave a report on different kinds of pigs. Bob Rice is a new mem ber of our club. After the meeting films and slides were shown. Then we went to see the pigs John McElligott is raising. Our next meeting will be held at David Baker's on April 19. For roll call each member will give a report on the feed they feed their animals.
