Departing lone Pastor Given Reception Sunday HEPPNER GAZETTE-TIMES, Thursday, April 23. 1959 By ECHO PALMATEER A reception was given in hon or of Rev and Mrs Floyd S Bailey and Louis Jackson Sunday after noon, preeeeded by a potluck dinner in the Community church parlors. The Baileys were pre sented with a money tree by members and friends of the church. Robert DeSpain made the presentation. Piano solos were played by Susan Lindstrom and Arleta McCabe and reading was given by Mrs Roy Lindstrom. Songs were sung by all accom panied by Mrs Lloyd Howton on the piano and Mrs Kenneth Smouse on the violin. Mr and Mrs Fredrick Martin showed slides on church and Community activities In lone during the past two years. The Baileys and Mr Jackson will leave Tuesday for Weiser, Idaho where Rev Bailey will be pastor of the Congregational church. He has been pastor of the Comunity church here for two years. Mrs Bailey taught the Intermediate Sunday school class and both have been very active in helping the Pilgrim Fellow ship groups and other activities in the community. Their address at the parsonage in Weiser is 240 Main St East. They hope any one passing through Weiser will stop and see them. The church and parsonage are on highway 30. Around 100 people attended the dinner and reception. Those on the dinner committee were Mrs Earl McCabe, Mrs Cecil Thome, Mrs Paul Pettyjohn, and Mrs David McLeod. On the table committee were Mrs Robert De Spain, Mrs Charles Hudson and Mrs Delmer Crawford. The tables were decorated with spring flow ers. Mrs Cecil Thome made and donated a linen altar for the Community church. Garden Club Meets Mrs Elmer Ferguson, Milton Freewater, district president of the Blue Mountain district of Garden clubs was a guest speak er at the lone Garden club meet ing at the home of Mrs Fred rick Martin Tuesday afternoon April 14. She told of the work of other garden clubs and on the book club. At the business meeting con ducted by Mrs William Rawlins, president, the following commit tees were named for the plant and food sale to be held at the Rebekah hall, May 9 beginning at 1 p m: publicity, Mrs Omar Rietmann, Mrs Fredrick Martin, Mrs Omar Rietmann and Mrs Echo Palmateer; plants Mrs Harold Dobyns, Mrs Phil Emert, Mrs Martin, Mrs Nichoson, Mrs Ernest Heliker and Mrs Rawlins; cashier Mrs Palmateer; pie and coffee Mrs Walter Dobyns, Mrs Elbe Akers) Mrs Garland Swan son and Mrs Sam Esteb; food sale Mrs A W McLeod, Mrs Dale Ray and Mrs O L Lundell. Flow er arrangements were brought to the meeting ior judging. Mrs Nichoson and Mrs Lundell re ceived first on their arrange ments. The district meeting will be held at Echo April 30; the reg ional and state convention win be held in Portland starting June 15. Mrs Etta Huston plans on attending the National conven tion in St Louis in May. There were 16 members present. Mrs Omar Rietmann received the door prize. Mrs Garland Swanson was a Portland and Salem visitor last week. She was accompanied by Mrs Kenneth Turner ana aaugn- ter of Heppner. Mrs Annie Healy of Heppner spent the weekend with her daughter and family, Mr and Mrs Ted Palmateer, Susan Healy of Butter Creek also visited at the Palmateer home last week. Mr and Mrs W E Melena are on a business trip into Idaho. Relatives attending the funer al service of Charles Dugan Tuesday of last week were from a distance. Mr and Mrs Lejn Cooley and sons, Bob and James of Naches, Wash., Mr and Mrs- Robert Botts and family, Mr and Mrs James Botts Jr, and Mrs Charles Cooley of Hermiston; Mr and Mrs Emmett Botts ana daughter. Those from here who went to Kinzua Sunday were Mr and Mrs Walter Jacobs and family, Mr and Mrs Robert Jepsen and fam ily, Mr and Mrs Gene Hall and sons, Mr and Mrs Ted Palmateer and family, Mr and Mrs Pete Cannon and family and John Jepsen. Some of the group play ed golf there. Mr and Mrs Franklin Ely and granddaughter, Marlene Craw ford spent Saturday in Pasco and visited Mrs Ely's cousins, Mr and Mrs Frank Cox in Othello, Wash on Sunday. Mr and Mrs Russell Holly and sons of Seattle spent the week end with his mother, Mrs Har old Dobyns, and Mr Dobyns. Rev and Mrs Norman of Ash croft, British Columbia, Canada were visitors in the community last week. They were overnight guests at the Fredrick Martin Mrs Harold Dobyns and Mrsj Edith Nichoson made a trip to. Pendleton Monday.
