Mr and Mrs Franklin Llnd strom were recent visitors of her aunt, Mrs Atla Sharp and cousin, Jim Sharp in John Day. Mr Sharp operates the Joaquin Miller resort there. They were accompanied by Mr and Mrs Hugh Bell of Condon. Mrs Oscar George entertained at a jewelry party at her home Wednesday evening of last week. There were 11 present. Fresh man officers are president, Mar ion Blddle; vice president, Archie Ball; secretary, Nat Webb; treas urer Ronnie Belsma; sergeant at arms, Merlin Hughes; and repre sentative, Mike Healy. The juniors were the winners of the March of Dimes Contest, with a total of $213. Winning the contest meant that their nominees ruled over the Rock 'n Roll dance, and their candi dates were crowned King and Queen. The senior class came In second with a total of $167 for ,the contest. Placing third with $161 earned was the soph omroe class. The freshman class was last with $78. The grand total of money earned for the March of Dimes was $620. Now that the March of Dimes contest Is over, the students are i readying themselves for the Heart Fund compaign. Each class has elected candidates to be King and Queen of the Heart Fund drive, as they did for the March of Dimes. The candidates are as follows: Senior, Janice Martin and Bob Huffman; Jun iors, Mike Gray and Connie An derson; for the sophomores, Neal Penland and Shirley Van Winkle and freshman candidates are Marlon Blddle and Geraldine Swaggart. The Heppner Chapter of the FBLA met on Wednesday, Jan uary 28, for their regular even Ing meeting. Guests were Miss Leta Humphreys and Keith Imus, Miss Humphrey spoke on chan ces for advancement in business and gave some pointers on how to advance. Mr Imus told about the founding of the Penney Stores and how they operated Plans were made for the local FBLA spelling contest. Sides were chosen and at the next meeting members will partici pate in a real old-fashioned spelling bee. The winner of the spelling contest will represent Heppner at the state convention Group pictures of all the HHS organizations will be taken on Thursday, February 5. Coles Stu dio of Pendleton is taking the pictures. These are the pictures that will appear in the annual. The members of the FFA par liamentary team came back to Heppner with huge smiles on their faces. With them came the pennant for placing first In the Blue Mountain district parlia mentary contest which was held at Wy-East high school on Jan uary 31. They will now particl pate In the sectional contest, but as yet the date for this has not been set. The stale contest is March 19 and 20. Good luck, boys! Marilyn Calvin, HHS Senior at tended a banquet in Portland on February 3. This banquet was for her and other Oregon girls and boys who placed In the Nat ional Junior Olympics. Marilyn placed third In the senior divis ion of the high Jump. Howell's Union Service Thursday evening of last week, the Easter program committee was appointed, they are, Mrs Delmer Crawford, Mrs Robert Rietmann, Mrs Walter Jacobs and Mrs Garry Tullls. The possi bility of holding a Bible study once a week was discussed. A filing cabinet was ordered for the Sunday school. Material will be gathered for the nativity scene for next Christmas. Any one having material may leave it at the home of Mrs Milton Morgan. Mr and Mrs Fredrick Martin spent a couple of days in Salem last week where he attended a school legislative hearing. They also visited her parents, Mr and Mrs Ralph Horton In Dallas. Mr and Mrs Dale Ray returned home Friday of last week from Lyle, Wash where they visited relatives. Mr Ray was a patient In The Dalles hospital for 10 days. Mrs Walter Roberts, chairman of the March of Dimes In lone, reports $36. $13 was turned In by the lone schools; $1.62 In the coin collector and $115.00 by the March of Dimes mailers. Making a total of $152.75. Dale O'Hara of Condon deliver ed the sermon at the Community church Sunday morning In the absence of Rev Floyd Bailey. Those having perfect attend ance in the Community church school during the past quarter were Linda Halvorsen, Arleta McCabe, Tom Melena and Cathy Cannon. Those missing only one day were Joe Halvorsen, Mark Halvorsen, Tim Tullis, Stephen, Michael Bailey and Patty Hud son. Mr and Mrs Dallas Shockley and children returned home Sun day from a trip. They visited relatives in Portland and Battle ground, Washington and were in Eugene where he attended a state principals of schools con ference. Their son, Patrick re mained In Battleground with his grandparents, Mr and Mrs B Shockley. Mr and Mrs Robert Peterson were Portland visitors last week, Jimmy Leathers, son of Mr and Mrs L F Leathers, fractured his collar bone Friday in the school gym when he slipped on a turn bling mat and fell. Mrs Rod Kvlstad and John Beaverton are visiting her par ents, Judge and Mrs Oscar Pet erson. Mr Kvistad, a teacher In the Beaverton schools, plans to come here this week. A meeting was held in the lone school Monday afternoon for the purpose of organizing discussion groups. Miss Esther Kirmis, county demonstrator, conducted the meeting. Rev Boul den, of Heppner was also present Groups represented were, East em Star Social club, Garden club, Maranatha club, Sorority, P-TA, Topic club. Mrs Richard Waymire, safety chairman, presented the program, which was "Safety In the Home." The club 'will serve at the annual Garden Club family din ner at the grange hall, Feb 22. The 4th district of the Fed eration of Womens Clubs will holdtheir convention some time here in April at the grange hall. Exact date will be announced later. Members of the Home Ec onomics Club of Greenfield grange will serve lunch. Announcement was made of the national convention of the G F W C in Los Angeles, Calif the first week in June. The club furnished a radio for Keith Gronquist when he was hospitalized recently. Ronald Black took six mem bers of his FFA class to the Blue Mountain District Parliamentary contest at Wy-East school at Parkdale Saturday. In the group were Alan and Mike Taylor, Douglas Shattuck, Kurt Ganten bein, Jim Miller and Bob Taylor. Temperatures were on the chilly side again Monday morn ing when the thermometer was reported down to 20 above In some places here, with a heavy frost. The sun warmed things up during the day, however, with the maximum getting up to about 45 above. 4-H Club' News HEPPNER COOKETS The Heppner Cookers met Jan uary 29 at the home of our lead er, Mrs Herb Case, We made cocoa at our meeting and next time we will learn to make sand wiches. The Blackhorse Livestock club met at the Harold Huber ranch on February 1. There are four members of the club who want a ewe, but there are only three ewes available.
