HEPPNER ODD FELLOWS, REBEKAHS HOLD JOINT INSTALLATION JAN 14 The public joint Installation, of officers of Willows Odd Fel lows lodge No 66 and Sans Soucl Rebekah lodge No 33 of Heppner was held at the Heppner IOOF hall, Wednesday, January 14 at 8:00 p m following a 6:30 p m ham dinner with a capacity crowd attending. The installing officers were: district deputy grand master, R G "Pete" McMurtry; district dep uty president, Mrs Merle Kirk; deputy marshalls, Cornett Green and Mrs John Bergstrom; deputy secretaries, John Wightman and Mrs Cornett ureen; deputy treas urers, Oliver Creswick and Letha Archer: deputy chaplains, Mr and Mrs Frank E Parker; deputy wardens, Thomas Wells and Mrs Nelson D Bailey; and deputy musician, Mrs Give Huston. Mrs Clarence Bauman, Jr past noble grand was conducted to center of the floor and presented a gift from her officers of the past year. She was also given her past noble grand pin, this being Dresented bv Mrs Merle Kirk, district deputy president of Sans Soucl Rebekan lodge, ine newlv installed noble grands for the two lodges gave brief accep tance speeches after which Mrs Gerald Rood was presented a lov ely basket of red and white car nations by Carl Bauman, repre senting her family. The bouquet was a gift from her mother, Mrs Cyril Gay of Medford, Oregon and her husband, Gerald Rood. Visitors from other lodges in cluded The Dalles, Lexington, Hardman, lone, Hermiston, Grass Valley. Newly installed N G clos ed the meeting. Assisting Mrs Frank Ayers in preparing the delicious dinner was the kitchen committee, Mrs Cornett Green and Mrs Nelson Bailey. The soliciting committee consisted of Mrs Alex Green and Mrs Blanche Brown. The young ladies serving the dinner inclu ded the following daughters of ''""service WITH A SMILE ! National Bank. Extension Unit Reviews History of Morrow County The Heppner Extension unit met Tuesday, January 13 at the home of Mrs Ray Drake with Mrs Paul Warren as co-hostess. Mrs William Heath was chair man. The early history of Mor row county was discussed and reports given of the different areas by the following; Mrs Douglas Drake, Mrs Give Hus ton, Mrs Ralph Thompson, Mrs William Bergstrom and Mrs Gene Ferguson. This history reviewed was compiled cooperatively by all the Extension units of the county in connection with the celebra tion of the Oregon Centennial. Thirteen members and four guests were present, who con tributed many interesting com ments and anectdotes. Refreshments were served. Rhea Creek HEC Names Committees The H E C of the Rhea Creek Grange met at the home of Mr and Mrs Ray Drake Thursday for a potluck dinner. Mrs Ben Anderson presided at the business meeting in the af ternoon and new committees ap pointed for the first half of 1959 are as follows: publicity, Mrs Paul Warren; ways and means, Mrs John Graves, Mrs Ray Wright, Mrs G A Farrens, Mrs Mary Wright, Mrs Leslie Babb, Mrs Kenneth Batty; entertain ment, Mrs Elmer Palmer, Mrs Harold Wright, Mrs Lincoln Nash, Mrs Walter Wright, Mrs Alva Casebeer, Miss Marilyn Berg strom; relief committee member for the entire year, Mrs Give Huston; hospitality committee for the year, Mrs Adrian Bechdolt, Mrs Henry Baker and Mrs Doug Drake. It was decided by the group to have a benefit March of Dimes dessert card party, January 31 at 8 o clock. Bridge and pinocnie will be played. Dessert to be served on arrival. Miss Ott will graduate from Heppner high school with the class of 1959 and Breeding is a graduate of Lex high school and is now employed in Lexing ton. The wedding is planned for May 28. Bruces Honored At Surprise Party Saturday evening former as sociates from Eastern Oregon Motors in Pendleton surprised Mr and Mrs Jim Bruce with a din ner party. Those arriving at the Bruce home in Heppner were Mrs Helen Grecnwall, Mr and Mrs Chris Lasson, Mr and Mrs Mike May burry and Mr and Mrs Ted White and children. They were unable t0 attend the grand opening of Bruce Mo tors on Friday, so planned the party for Saturday when they could all attend. She was Introduced by Miss Leta Humphreys who was in charge of the program. Susie McQuarrie was the sen ior girl representative from Hep pner high school. Mrs Farley Hostess For Bridge Club The Renegers bridge club met last Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs James J Farley. Guests were Mrs Alex Thomp son, Mrs Allen Case, Mrs Conley Lanham, Mrs Raymond Ferguson, Mrs Creston Robinson, Mrs Paul Webb, Mrs William Labhart, Mrs James Norene, Mrs Eddie Gun derson, Mrs Richard Meador, Mrs Gene Hall and Mrs LaVerne Van Marter. Mrs Labhart held high score, Mrs Gunderson was second and Mrs Meador low. Sewing Club Meets With Mrs Wilson Mrs Tom Wilson entertained the Sewing Club last Wednesday afternoon. Those present were Mrs E Har vey Miller of Portland, Mrs Claude Graham, Mrs Carl Spaul ding, Mrs Gene Pierce, Mrs E K Schaffitz, Mrs John Pfeiffer, Mrs Raymond Ferguson, Mrs P W Ma- honey, Mrs W M Fisher and Mrs i Robert Penland. 5 New Officers Preside At Rebekah Meeting The regular meeting of Sans Souci Rebekah lodge no 33 was held with the newly installed noble grand Mrs Gerald Rood, presiding on Friday, January 16. There were 32 members and one guest in attendance. The noble grand appointed sev eral new committees for the year, nd will appoint the rest in June, at mid term. Mrs R G McMurtry gave a re port on the reception in Hermis ton on January 10 for Susan Anderson, the United Nations delegate from this district last year. Initiation will be held at the next regular meeting, Friday, February 6 and there will be three practices before then, on January 26, January 30 and Feb ruary 2. During the refreshment hour a meeting was called for the Triple Link club to complete plans for the annual Valentine card party to be held Saturday, February 14. Mrs Ray McDowell, new Triple Link president, appointed Mrs McMurtry, Mrs Glen Mc- Lachlan, Mrs Roy Quackenbush and Mrs Roscoe Slobig on the dining room committee; table and cards committee, Mrs Del bert Wright, Mrs Herb Case, and Mrs Joe Devine; poster commit tee, Mrs Art Fergeson, Mrs Del bert Wright and Mrs Don Mun kers. The next regular club meet ing will be February 20.
