tance speeches after which Mrs
Gerald Rood was presented a lov
ely basket of red and white car
nations by Carl Bauman, repre
senting her family. The bouquet
was a gift from her mother, Mrs
Cyril Gay of Medford, Oregon
and her husband, Gerald Rood.

preparing the delicious dinner

Reviews History of
Morrow County
The Heppner Extension unit
met Tuesday, January 13 at the
home of Mrs Ray Drake with
Mrs Paul Warren as co-hostess.
Mrs William Heath was chair
man. The early history of Mor
row county was discussed and
reports given of the different
areas by the following; Mrs
Douglas Drake, Mrs Give Hus
ton, Mrs Ralph Thompson, Mrs
William Bergstrom and Mrs Gene
Ferguson.
This history reviewed was
compiled cooperatively by all the
Extension units of the county
in connection with the celebra
tion of the Oregon Centennial.
Thirteen members and four
guests were present, who con
tributed many interesting com
ments and anectdotes.
Refreshments were served.

The H E C of the Rhea Creek
Grange met at the home of Mr
and Mrs Ray Drake Thursday for
a potluck dinner.

Miss Rhoda Ott Sets
May Wedding Date
Mr and Mrs Fred Ott announce
the engagement of their daugh
ter, Rhoda, to Mr Paul Breeding,
son of Mr and Mrs O G Breeding
of Lexington.
Miss Ott will graduate from
Heppner high school with the
class of 1959 and Breeding is a
graduate of Lex high school
and is now employed in Lexing
ton. The wedding is planned for
May 28.
Bruces Honored At
Surprise Party
Saturday evening former as

Motors in Pendleton surprised Mr
and Mrs Jim Bruce with a din
ner party.
Those arriving at the Bruce
home in Heppner were Mrs Helen

and children.
They were unable t0 attend
the grand opening of Bruce Mo
tors on Friday, so planned the
party for Saturday when they

New Officers Preside
At Rebekah Meeting
The regular meeting of Sans
Souci Rebekah lodge no 33 was
held with the newly installed
noble grand Mrs Gerald Rood,
presiding on Friday, January 16.
There were 32 members and one
guest in attendance.
The noble grand appointed sev
eral new committees for the year,
nd will appoint the rest in June,
at mid term.
Mrs R G McMurtry gave a re
port on the reception in Hermis
ton on January 10 for Susan
Anderson, the United Nations
delegate from this district last
year.
Initiation will be held at the
next regular meeting, Friday,
February 6 and there will be
three practices before then, on
January 26, January 30 and Feb
ruary 2.
During the refreshment hour a
meeting was called for the Triple
Link club to complete plans for
the annual Valentine card party
to be held Saturday, February
14. Mrs Ray McDowell, new
