Thursday, January 1. 1959 lone Churches Hold Xmas Programs By ECHO PALMATEER The Nazarene church school gave the following program Sun day morning, December 21: Kathy Crum, Marlene Parrlsh, Sandy Einspahr, Bobby and Mon ty Crum played on bells; Candy Einspahr read the scripture; Mar lene Parrish sang "Away In a Manger," accompanied by Bonnie Crum; recitation by Bobby Monty and Kathy Crum; a reading, Christmas with no Christ by John Akers; coronet solo, "O Little Town of Bethlehem" by Jack Crum; accompanied by Bonnie Crum; recitation by Leslie Mad den and Ivan Akers, "The Babe Worshipped in a Stall. At the morning worship Canly Einspahr sang, "Hark the Heralds Angels Sing." Rev L M Rambo, a supply minister from Kennewick, Wash has been preaching at the Naz arene church. The Baptist church held their Christmas program Christmas Eve with recitations, vocals and instrumental music by the young people and adults of the church. Mr and Mrs BilL Collier and children and Tom and Laila 01 sen of Arlington were present, also Sven Olsen of California. Dinner guests Christmas at the Berl Akers home were, Mr and Mrs Wallace Matthews and daughters, Bill McElwain of lone and Berl Akers Jr of Forest Grove. Christmas guests at the Carl Bergstrom home were Mr and Mrs Arthur Bergstrom and daugh ters of Portland, Mr and Mrs Norman Bergstrom and daugh ters of Brookings, Mr and Mrs Roland Bergstrom and daughters and Mr and Mrs Arthur Stefanl Jr and children. Mr and Mrs Noel Dobyns en tertained the following guests Christmas: Mr and Mrs Ted Har desty and children of Eugene, Mrs G V Crum of Morton, Wash, Pfc and Mrs Joseph Kalister of St Louis, Mo. Mr and Mrs Walter Dobyns, Mr and Mrs Harold Do byns, Mrs Grace Ware and Mr and Mrs Robert Jensen. Dinner guests at the E W Bris tow home Christmas were Lt and Mrs John Bristow of Merced, California, Mr and Mrs Tommy Bristow and children of Portland and Jerry Bristow of Bookings, Donald Bristow and Mrs Ida Grabill. Mr and Mrs Wallace Bell of The Dalles were calling on friends here during the holidays. They visited her daughter and family, Mr and Mrs Jerol Bailey of Heppner. Mr and Mrs Boad and family of Shelton, Wash spent Christmas with their daughter and family, Mr and Mrs James Morgan. Mr and Mrs S L Wiles also were guests at the Morgan home. Mr and Mrs Carl Shulz of Rock Creek visited relatives here dur ing the holidays. Christmas dinner guests at the E Markham Baker home were, Mr and Mrs Duane Baker and daughter of Menlo Park, Calif. Mr and Mrs Ronald Baker and daughter of Hermiston, Miss Mar dine Baker of Eugene and Mr and Mrs Ted Jacobson of Seat tle. Mr and Mrs Lewis Ball spent Christmas with their daughter and family, Mr and Mrs Steven Loy at Beaverton. Mr and Mrs Charles Hudson and children spent the holidays in Portland. Mr and Mrs C E Brenner and sons, Lt LeRoy Brenner and Ken neth Brenner spent Christmas with Mrs Brenner's mother, Mrs Vela Eubanks in Portland. Mr and Mrs Clifford Aldrich and daughter and Elmer Peter sen spent Christmas at the Ver non Christopherson home near Condon. Mr and Mrs B R Shockley of Battle Ground, Wash and Mr and Mrs Henry Peterson of Portland spent the holidays at the Dallas Shockley home. Mr and Mrs Arnie Hedman en tertained Mr and Mrs D G Lujan and daughters and Miss Carolina Schlafmann for dinner Christmas. Mr and Mrs Lloyd Howton and family spent Christmas at the Glenn Campbell home near Echo. Mr and Mrs Ted Palmateer and children and Mrs Ida Coleman land daughter, Ann Belle, spent Christmas at the Jack Healy home in Heppner. Mrs Coleman's jgrandchildren, Linda and Mariann Williams spent the holi days in Pendleton. Christmas guests at the Clar ence Holtz home were, Mr and Mrs Tom Kirkelie and daugh ter of Tacoma, Wash, Harold Holtz, Portland, where he is a student at Multnomah college, and Mr and Mrs Elmer Holtz and daughters of lone. Dinner guests at the Victor Rietmann home were, Mr and Mrs Dean Rohde of Echo, Mr and Mrs Robert Rietmann and sons and Mr and Mrs Bill Riet mann and son of lone. Dotes To Remember! Jan 3 Pomona grange at the Willows grange hall start ing at 10:30 A M. A talk by Sheriff Bauman, installation of grange officers and slides on Mexico. Dinner will be served at noon. Jan 6 American Legion Auxil iary meeting in the afternoon. Jan 6 City council meeting at 8 pm. Jan 7 Eastern Star Social club meeting at the home oi Mrs Roy Lindstrom in the after noon. Jan 8 lone Home Extension meeting at the home oi Mrs Omar Rietmann at 7:30 P M. Anyone interested in the pro gram "Know Your Oregon is invited to come and bring any local pictures or items of early history of lone and surrounding area. Jan 9 Topic club meeting at the home of Mrs John Proudfoot at 2:15 P M. Jan 6 12th Night ceremony at the Rietmann vacant lot at 3:35 P M with the burning of Christmas trees and green ery sponsored by the Garden club. Trees are to be brought to the lot or will be picked up by Saturday. Jan 3 if left on the curb. Holiday guests at the Verner Troedson home were, Miss Shir lee McGreer of Eugene, Mrs Georgia Brewster of Portland and Mr and Mrs George Brewster of Redmond. Guests at the Carl Troedson Christmas were Pvt Arthur Lindstrom and Pvt Roy Lind strom of Fort Ord, Calif, Mr and Mrs Howard Nottage of Portland, Warren Stender of Hermiston, Jo- han Troedson, Mr and Mrs E-ronWlin Lindstrom. Mrs Anna Lindstrom and Mr and Mrs Lake Beckner. Mrs Frances Piper was called to Spokane on account of illness and death of an aunt. Prizes galore are in store for 1959's first baby!
