The ramp was expected to be ready for use in about a week. The Chamber held its regular monthly meeting in the Saddle Room of the Hitchin' Post cafe. Out of town guests included, Tom Monroe of Portland, Art Buck of Billings, Mont, Frank Jones of Vancouver, Wash, and Melvln Hayes of Arlington. Dean King, student body presi dent of Boardman high school, was present and asked the cham ber to help sponsor a Youth Cen ter and car club In Boardman. A committee was appointed to study and make a survey of the situation and report at the next meeting. This included R B Rands, Ed Kuhn and Vernon Rus sell. A nominating committee was appointed for selecting candi dates for next year's officers con sisting of Arthur Allen, Russell Miller and Walter Hayes. During an intermission re- The cheerleaders gave the towns people and students who did not go to the Jamboree a chance to see their new outfits Although lone was the winner of the cheer leading trophy at the Jamboree, Heppner cheerleaders feel they can steadily improve and can be much better by the middle of the season. To work toward this goal they are figuring out new routines with the pep band and are preparing a Handbook of Yells for the cheering section. Heppner's delegate to the FFA speech contest at Stanfield on December 5, was Clifford Green. Nine schools participated in the contest. Clifford spoke on the home of Mrs Claud Worden, with Mrs Myron Watts as co-hostess. Guests were Mrs Algy Taylor, Mrs Norman Ziemer, Mrs Mary Healy and Mrs Earl Brlggs. Mem bers present, included Mrs Har old Gauger, Mrs Marion Morlan, Mrs Dewey West, Mrs Bob Stew art, Mrs Ray Gronquist, Mrs Earl McQuaw, Mrs Sigvald Aase, Mrs Roy Partlow, Mrs Adolf Skoubo and Mrs Cecil Hamilton. A "Letters to Santa" Students are planning a gigan tic caroling project which they have nicknamed "Operation Car oling." The Methodist Youth Fellowship Is sponsoring the pro ject which will be held on Main street at 7:00 p m on December 23. In cooperation with the city council the students will present a half hour of carols and favorite Christmas songs. Refreshments for the carolers will be served at the Methodist church after the program. Townspeople are invit ed to come and listen to the students sing. While the HEHISCH staff Is busy collecting data for a special Oregon Centennial issue, stu dents who read the HEHISCH are darting about the school finding answers for a contest that the HEHISCH is sponsoring. The con test is based on Oregon history and has a first prize of $5.00 for the student with the highest score on his set of answers. Sec ond prize is $3.00 and third Is $2.00. Three Judges will select the winning contestants. With Christmas approaching rapidly, the whole school Is buzz ing with plans for parties and programs. The high school band and chorus will present their Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 17.
