The Topic club met at the home of Mrs Roland Bergstrom Friday afternoon, Nov 14 with Mrs Arvilla Swanson and Mrs Echo Palmateer as co-hostesses. At the business meeting con ducted by Mrs Dixon Smith, pres ident, the roll call was answered by naming an unusual custom of a foreign country. Mrs Palma teer showed slides on the recent trip to Mexico by Mrs Mabel Cotter and her. She and Mrs Cot ter explained the pictures and some of their experiences in Mex ico. Judge Oscar Peterson gave the address. He re viewed the history of World War II and the Korean war. Rev Floyd Bailey gave the prayer and bene diction, the school band played the Star Spangled Banner and other numbers and members of the post were the color bearers. Attend Double Funeral Mrs Olive Engleman, Mrs Ar villa Swanson and Joel Engle man attended the funeral ser vices of Mr and Mrs George Gid dens in Portland Wednesday of last week. Mr and Mrs Giddens both died the same day, Nov 6. She was the former Ruth Bew ley and was a cousin of Mrs Engleman, Mrs Swanson, Mrs Edith Nichoson and G A Pet teys. They were former residents here. Officers Installed The following officers were in stalled at the Maranatha club meeting at the home of Mrs Earl McKinney, Wednesday afternoon, Nov 12: Mrs E Markham, presi dent; Mrs Marlon Palmer, vice president and Mrs Lloyd Howton, secretary-treasurer. Mrs Omar Rietmann was the installing of ficer at the impressive candle ceremony. Mrs Mary Swanson as sisted her. Mrs Bryce Keene was the outgoing president. Mrs Floyd Bailey gave scripture readings and told of work in hospitals and missionaries in foreign lands. The club gave $10 to CARE and members brought dish towels, hand towels and sewing material to be sent to the home land, to Korea, to Ceylon missions and migratory workers. Mrs Baker appointed the fol lowing committees to assist her during the year: aprons, Mrs Garrv Tullls, Mrs Clell Rea, and Mrs Mary Swan son; fancy work, Mrs Ed Baker, church council. Jimmy Hudson, son of Mr and Mrs Charles Hudson, underwent surgery at the Pioneer Memorial hospital Friday of last week. Cathy Cannon, daughter of Mr and Mrs Pete Cannon, underwent a tonsillectomy at the Pioneer Memorial hospital Monday.
