November 13, 195d gOCIAL -aPPENIN6S Pictures of Mexico Shown To WSCS Study Group Recently Miss Leta Humphreys showed colored slides of her recent trip to Mexico at the regular meet ing of the Methodist WSCS Nov ember 4. The ancient ruins, old and new churches, agriculture and indus try of the country were Illus trated by the pictures and en larged upon by Miss Humphreys' discussion. Mrs Velma Glass completed the evening's study by explain ing the health, educational, eco nomic and cultural problems of the country. The next study session will be Wednesday evening November 19 and the topic will be Hawaii and the Caribbean Islands. Mrs L L Robblns presided at the business meeting. Mrs Harry uuvaii announced that she will have sofa pillows, knitting bags, table cloths and a number of slipper chairs for the bazaar Sat urday, November 11 from 2 to 5 pm. Mrs Edna Turner is offering Christmas cards for sale; Mrs Mattie Green is In charge of the surprise table and Mrs Bernlce Nash has charge of collecting Betty Crocker coupons so the group may get a silver tea ser vice. Mrs Vic Krelmeyer announced that all are Invited to come to the church for a few minutes of prayer any time Wednesday, November 19. She will be at the organ on that day between the hour of 1:00 and 2:00 p m. Pray er and meditation material will be available In the foyer of the church. Mrs Nash, Mrs Glass and Mrs Krelmeyer served refreshments to about 23 members and guests that were present. Extension Unit Sees Holiday Project The Rhea Creek extension unit held Its regular meeting Nov ember 5 at the grange hall. A potluck dinner was served for the all day meeting. A very interesting project les son on Holiday Happiness was demonstrated by Mrs Walter Wright, Mrs Orrin Wright and Mrs John Bergstrom, There were eight different crafts on display, one selected from each Morrow county unit The women explained how to make these simple and attractive crafts of feather corsages from wild birds, fruit can foot-stools, Christmas sock, hanging saucers, charm string of natural material, yarn Santa and bees wax can dies. Lex Garden Club Met At Munkers Home The Lexington Garden club met recently at the home of Mrs Frank Munkers with Mrs Lester Cox as co-hostess. There were 14 members and three guests present for the meeting. May Campbell had the topic for the day and gave a very in teresting talk on the history and care of the chrysanthemum. The program consisted of a flower quiz and a short skit by Ola Ruggles, Doris Graves and I Maxine Cox. Rainbow Girls Have Kidnap Breakfast Ruth Assembly, Rainbow for Girls entertained early Saturday morning with a kidnap break fast at the Masonic temple. Miss Esther Kirmis, Morrow county., extension . agent,., was guest speaker at the breakfast Mrs James Thomson was chair man and she was assisted by Mrs Paul Jones, Mrs Claude Gra ham and Mrs Dick Wilkinson. Guests were girls who are eli gible for Rainbow Girls. Heppner Mothers Plan Many Projects In a setting of candlelight gasoline lanterns and flashlights the members of the Mothers club met at the home of Mrs Rod Murray, Monday, November 3, At the business meeting the secretary was instructed to write the city council concerning en forcement of the passenger safe ty crosswalk at the Court Street junction. It is traditional for the Mothers Club to prepare treats of candy and cookies for the county hos pltal patients each Christmas. Mrs Nels Anderson and Mrs Wal lace Wolff were appointed to inquire at the hospital as to suitable substitutes to be given this year instead of food. Mothers Club members will as sist with the Hospital Auxiliary mending program. Mrs Wallace Wolff will be in charge of bring ing the linens to club meetings where it will be divided among the members. Although unable to present her planned program of slides, Miss Esther Kirmis, home extension demonstration agent, gave a very lnteretsing talk and participation program on color in the home, District Deputy Pin j lone Junior Class Presented Mrs Kirk Sans Soucl Rebekah lodge met Friday evening, November 7 at the IOOF hall with Mrs C J D Bauman, noble grand, presiding. Nominations were made for the 1959 officers and five appli cations lor new members were read and will be voted on at the next meeting. On Thursday evening 15. mem bers of Sans Soucl lodge went to Lexington to take the presl dent's key and they also took cakes and sandwiches for re freshments. Mrs Altha Kirk was presented a district deputy president's pin, This is the first time a pin has been presented to a deputy of this district and it will be passed on down to succeeding deputies. The Triple Link club will meet at the home of Mrs N D Bailey Monday, November 17 at 8:00 P m. The Sunshine prize was won by Miss Esther Bergstrom and hostesses were Mrs Pearl Devlne and Miss Bergstrom. The next regular meeting will be Friday, November 21. Members brought gifts to be sent to the U S Veterans hos pital in Portland for the gift shop which is held each year, from which the veteran selects gifts to be sent to members of his family at Christmas time at no cost to him. In pinochle, Mrs Donald Ben nett received first and Mrs Jack Van Winkle second. Mrs Richard Wells was high in bridge and Mrs Bruce Lindsay second.
