Mrs John Botts and son, Bruce of Battle Ground, Wash and Miss Louise Botts of Port land. Ronetta Fahl who has been visiting at the James Botts home returned to her home in Portland with them. . Mr and Mrs James Morgan have moved into the John Botts house on Main Street. Mr and Mrs Howard Crowell and children attended a birth day dinner In honor of her father, Wilbur Steagall, at the home of Mr and Mrs Jerry Dougherty near Heppner Sunday. Books added to the public li brary are: Queen Victoria, Streat field; The Silk Cotton Tree, War ner; Parrish, Savage. Mr and Mrs Dean Rohde of Echo spent Sunday at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs Victor Rietmann. Over $5G was taken in at the UNICEF drive Hallowe'en. This was sponsored by the P-TA School children through the 8th grade, wearing the orange and black emblem, gathered the mon ey about town in cartons. This money goes for milk, medicines and health service for more than 5 million children. The children were given a party afterwards at the school cafetorium. A dance was held at the school for high school students. Franklin Lindstrom is recover ing at his home from Rocky Mountain fever which was sup posed to have been caused from being bitten by a tick on a deer's head. Mrs Hugh Bell of Condon has been staying at the Lind strom home. Those receiving prizes at the masquerade dance at the Legion hall sponsored by the lone post were, Mr and Mrs Arthur Craw ford, dressed as Indians, 1st prize; Harold Holtz, dressed as a cook, and Miss Irene Grant, dressed as a waitress, 2nd prize; Mrs Roberta Dougherty, dressed as an old lady, 1st for a single. High school students were Diana Pettyjohn, 1st; Linda Halvorsen, 2nd and Lona White 3rd. Robert Rietmann received the camera which was sold by the lone Sorority. October 8 The Pilgrim Fellow ship group of the Community church will hold a travelling food sale beginning at 10 A M. Anyone wishing special orders may contact Marilyn Morgan. November 1 1 Veteran's Day pro gram at the Memorial ath letic field in the morning. November 1 1 Garden club meet ing at the home of Mrs Carl Bergstrom at 2 P M. November 14 Study meeting of - the Topic club at the home of Mrs Roland Bergstrom. November 9 Sunday, Rev Emil Rilling will conduct the morning services at 11 am at the Baptist church. Weekend guest at the Leo Crabtree home were Mr and Mrs George Stender and daughter, Dani, Don Thompson, E E Mey ers and Mrs Blanche Scheelar i all of Salem. Mr and Mrs Ray Heimbigner and children attended a house warming for her sister and fam ily, Mr and Mrs Harry Fink at I Pasco, Wash. Other relatives came from Odessa and Quincey, Wash. Mrs Harold Dobyns returned home Tuesday of last week from a two weeks trip. She visited her son and family, Mr and Mrs Jerry Holly in Portland and son and family, Mr and Mrs Russell Holly in Seattle. While in Seattle she attended the Robert Dall mum show and another mum show In northwest Seattle. Mr Dobyns mot her in Pendleton where they spent a couple of days. Mr and Mrs Melvin Melena and sons have moved into the Jessie Griffin house on Second Street. James Cossman 62 died Oct 29 with a heart attack at his home in North Hollywood, Calif. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, two daughters, one son and 5 grandchildren. He was married Dec 1917 to Ruth Petteys of lone and taught his first year of school here in 1916-1917. After he was in the armed forces he taught many years In the junior college in Santa Monica, Calif. Walter L Lansing of Salem, grand master of the Masons of Oregon, paid his official visit to the lone lodge No 120, AF & AM, Monday evening. Nov 3. Among other officers present were, Harry Proudfoot. Portland grand secre tary and Walter Jaeger, Condon, district deputy of the grand mas ter. Leo Crabtree is the master of the lone lodge. Other lodges rep resented and their masters and officers were Arlington, Heppner, Fossil and Condon. All officers from these lodges were present except one. There were 76 mem bers present. A dinner preceded the meeting served by members of the Eastern Star. f Around 70 attended the potluck dinner in honor of Rev and Mrs Charles Wilkes and famUy at the Legion hall Monday evening, Nov 3. This was a farewell party for the Wilkes who are leaving Tuesday for Zillah, Wash where he will be the pastor of the Church of the Nazarene. He has been pastor of the Nazarene church here for over two years. Rev William Collier gave the ad dress, Mrs Edison Morgan sang. "Until We Meet Again" and Tom and Lila Olson sang a duet. Both numbers were accompanied by Mrs Collier. A money tree was presented to the Wilkes.
