A potluck dinner held at 6:30 followed by le review by the 4-H girls, welcome was given by presi j Mrs Wallace Matthews. The t) board, teachers and new fits were introduced. Mrs ham Baker showed a movie 1 of Finland which was ht here by Marja Virkkala fland who is a guest at the home. Musical entertain during the evening was lin solo by Mrs Kenneth se accompanied by Mrs Howton and also vocal $ers by the school quintones iting of Dianna Pettyjohn, White, Jean Martin, and 2 Halvorsen, accompanied by 8 Lundell. Prizes were won rl McCabe, Mrs Jim Petty "and Adon Hamlett. 1 and Mrs James Pettyjohn ..hosts to a. dinner Tuesday jig in honor of Mr and Mrs I Rea, Mr and Mrs Leland McKinney, and Loy Keene, all! who are leaving this week to at 1er.d school at OTI in Klamath Falls. Other guests were Mr and Mrs Alvin McCabe and" Barbara Baker. Mrs Echo Palmateer and Mrs Mabel Cotter left Monday on a thvee weeks vacation to Mexico City and Alcapca. Arnica cluj, met September 17 at the Noel Dobyns residence with Mrs Robert Jepsen and Mrs Marion Palmer as hostesses. At the meeting conducted by presi dent Mrs Lee Palmer it was de cided to donate to the public li brary. Hollywood bridge was played during the afternoon with Mrs Raymond Lundell and Mrs Adon Hamlett receiving prizes. Mrs Roy Lindstrom received the door prize. Mr and Mrs Noel Dobyns spent the weekend in lone. Mrs G V Crumb returned to Portland with them on her way to Morton, Washington after visiting her mother, Mrs Grace Ware. Mrs Franklin Ely attended a Delta Kappa Gamma meeting in Pendleton on Saturday. The bridge club met at the home of Mrs Ray Boyce on Fri day evening. Mrs Delmer Craw ford won high, Mrs Ernest Mc Cabe second high and Mrs Robert DeSpain, Jack high. Mr and Mrs Berl Akers and family spent the weekend in For est Grove visiting their son, Berl who is attending Pacific Uni versity. On Saturday they attend ed the Pacific-Chico football game. They also visited Mr and Mrs ayne My ana iamny. i Mr and Mrs David Baker and family were in Portland recently visiting her brother, William Gorger of San Jose, California. Lt and Mrs John Bristow left Wednesday after visiting his par ents, Mr and Mrs E W Bristow and other relatives. Lt Bristow reported back to Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Mon tana. The Pilgrim Youth Fellowship of the Community church met recently and elected officers. Of ficers elected were, president, Marilyn Morgan; vice president, Ellis Ball; sec treasurer, Dalene McDonald; and song leader, Jean Martin. Mr and Mrs Lewis Halvorsen and Mrs Richard Rea took Judy Mason t0 college at Pacific Uni versity last week. Judy is enter ing her third year at Pacific. There will also be a silver tea. Mr and Mrs Kenneth Smouse, Mr Fred Martin, Adon Hamlett and Rev Bailey went to The Dal les Sunday evening to attend a "World Missions Meeting at the Congregational church. Mr and Mrs Oscar George are starting a 4-H riding club in lone. It is asked that all inter ested in joining the club please phone 87465 by October 10. The Willows Grange held their regular meeting Saturday even ing. It was decided to hold their annual turkey dinner and bazaar on Nov 1. Clean-up day was held one day last week at the hall. Mrs Gordon White, Mrs Cecil Thome, Mrs Edith Nichoson, and Mrs Clarence Brenner attended the homecoming celebration for Ce Gunn, the national president of the American Legion Auxil iary at Hood River last Satur day evening. There was a parade at 4:30 that met the train on which she arrived, banquet at 7:00 which fed over 300 people, songs were sung and dedicated to Ce Gunn. Ce Gunn and husband former residents ol Hood cers elected to the church Sunday school for the coming year were: moderator, Fredrick Martin; assistant moderator, Lloyd Howton; church clerk, Mrs Markham Baker; church treas urer, Kenneth Smouse; deacons (3 year term) Markham Baker, Donald Bristow; deaconesses, (3 year term) Mrs Dale Ray, Mrs William Melena; trustees (3 year term) William Melena, Delmer Crawford; church school super intendent, Mrs Fredrick Martin; and HEPPNER GAZETTE -TIMES. Misses Jackie Holmes and Mary Bernstein of Vancouver B C were recent guests at the Frank lin Lindstrom home. John Peterson returned to the David Rietmann home after hav ing two weeks army reserve training in Fort Lewis. The Bunchgrass Rebekah lodge met at their hall on Thursday. After the meeting the quarterly birthday party was held in hon or of Mrs David Rietmann, Mrs Wate Crawford, Mrs Delia Cor son, and Mrs Berl Akers. The annual Community church meeting was held Sunday, Sept 21, with a potluck dinner at noon with the meeting following. The meeting was conducted by the moderator, Fredrick Martin. The 1959 budget was accepted. Off I- auditing committee, Melvin Me lena Lloyd Howton; music com mittee, Joe Hausler, Mrs Charles Hudson, and Mrs Bill Rietmann; board of education, Mrs Alfred Nelson, Mrs Lloyd Howton, and Mis Milton Morgan; church council members at large, Mrs Omar Rietmann, Melvin Melena. The nominating committee were Mrs Lloyd Howton, Mrs Earl Mc Kinney, Melvin Melena, Fredrick Martin, moderator and Floyd Bailey, minister. Mr and Mrs Verner Troedson attended the open house at the Jasper Meyers home on Butter Creek Sunday afternoon. It was the 25th wedding anniversary of the Meyers. Coffee guests of Mrs Verner Troedson Friday were Miss Lolah Feldman, and Miss Arlene Silf berg of Portland and Mrs Claude Graham and Mrs Bess Huddle son of Heppner.
