Thursday, February 20, 1958 Boardman Home Damaged by Fire By MARY LEE MARLOW The city fire truck was called to the home of Mr and Mrs Charl es Graham Sunday about 6:30 a m to put out a fire which start ed In a bedroom. The fire was discovered by Charles Graham, Jr, home for the weekend from Estacada, who was sleeping In the bedroom. The fire was be lieved to have been caused by defective wiring. Bob Thornhill took the truck to the scene. Dam age was estimated to be about $1,000. All the contents of the bedroom were destroyed. The annual Sweetheart dinner of the Tillicum club was held Sunday evening in the school cafeteria. A short program was presented. Dewena West gave a reading, "Dirty Ned"; Karen Gronquist and Linda Tatone sang "Whatever Will Be, Will Be"; and the group sang "Happy Birthday" to Dennis Gronquist. Those present were Mr and Mrs Harold Baker and Ronnie and Randy, Mr and Mrs Charles Hi guera and Susan and Karen. Mr and Mrs Nels Kristensen, accompanied by Mrs Kristensen's sister, Mrs J W Thomas, of Lem oore, Calif, left last week for Cheyenne, Wyo, to visit a couple of days with another sister, Mrs Anna Smith. From there they left for New York City, and will sail Feb 19 on the Swedish liner Stockholm for Denmark. They plan to visit there about three months, and w'll leave for home May 24. Mrs Walter Wyss was hostess for the Garden club at her home Monday evening, assisted by Mrs Algy Taylor. There were 17 members present, and Mrs Don Downey was a visitor. Roll call was answered by giving the name of a favorite seed catalog. The annual family dinner will be at the school cafeteria Sun day, Feb 23. The Tillicum club will serve the dinner. The local club will join with other clubs for a spring flower show, the place and time to be announced later. Mrs Florence Root and Mrs Russell Miller presented articles on birds of the northwest. A quiz on birds will be held next month. The club will donate a shrub or tree to the Champoeg stte park Next meeting will be at the home of Mrs Charles Anderegg, March 17. Athena grade school played basketball that afternoon and the girls played volleyball. The grade school girls and the mothers assisted by Mrs Gordon White served the meal.
