She was a winner at the Gilliam county fair last sumer. Mrs. Pettyjohn is the daughter of Mrs. Mary tmert ol lone and at tended the schools here. Mar dine Baker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Baker of lone, was also entered in the contest. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dobyns spent Christmas with their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Tad Hardesty in Eugene. Baptismal services were held for Vickie Marie Ekstrom, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Ekstrom, at the Valby Lutheran church Sunday Dec. 22. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Rea were the sponsors. Rev. Merlin Zier, pastor offic iated. Miss Ruby Ann Rietmann, tea cher in the Pendleton schools spent the holidays with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Riet mann. Dr. and Mrs. Paul Davles of Portland were weekend visitors at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Lloyd Bailey. The Co-weds were entertained Thursday evening at the school nouse gym by Mrs. David Mc Leod and Mrs. Pete Cannon. They enjoyed volleyball, tumbling and other sports. Refreshments were served afterwards at the McLeod home. Mr. and Mrs. Rod Kvistad and son of Beaverton spent the holi days at the Oscar Peterson home. Mrs. Virginia Miller of Wads- worth, Nevada was. a guest of the. McGiU family in Cecil over the 1 holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Haugen and daughters of Portland spent weekend with her mother,. Mrs. Fannie Griffith,, and other rela tives. Mr; and Mrs. George Griff ith and children; ot McDermitt, Nevada also visited relatives here last week.. Mrs. Edna Yarnell of Portland is visiting at the home of her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Charles O'Connor. Christmas dinner guests at the Adon Hamlett home were,. Dennis Swanson, Portland, Jean Ann Swanson of Marylhurst College, Mr. and Mrs. Garland Swanson and children and Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Lundell. Miss Anna Jepson, nurse in the Emanuel hospital in Portland visited relatives here over the weekend. Mrs. Mary Swanson is visiting relatives in Salem, and Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Matthews and daughters spent a few days in Portland last week. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Brenner and son, Gary, spent Christmas with relatives In Portland. Dinner guest9 at the Carl Berg strom home Christmas day were Mr. and Mrs. Norman Bergstrom and daughters of Brookings, Wal ter Bergstrom of Chico, Calif, and Mr. and Mrs. Roland Bergstrom and daughters. The Norman Berg strom's are visiting here during the holidays. He is a teacher in the Brookings schools. Walter is a student at the Chico State Col lege in California. Christmas guests at the Lewis Ball home were, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Loy and children of La Grande, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Gar ner and son of Pendleton. Mr. and Mrs. Verneon Christ- opherson and daughters of Con don, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Aid rich, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ball and children, Mrs. Monetta Al drich and Elmer Peterson. Mrs. Wallace Beech and daugh ter, Evelyn, of Seattle are visiting their daughter and sister and family, Rev. and Mrs. Charles Wilkes. Mr. and Mrs Leslie Roundy and children of Kennewick, Wash, spent Christmas at the Roger Kin caid home. Other guests there were Louis Padberg and Lindsay Kincaid. Guests at the Ed Buschke home were his daughter and grand daughter, Mrs. Josephine Reis and Shirley Peck of Albany, Mrs. Clara Kincaid and Mrs. Mabel Cotter of lone. H. Cope of Seattle spent the holiday with his daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Leath ers. Mrs. Golda Eubanks, mother of Mr. Leathers was also a vis itor there. mrs. KuDy mcnois and son, Lyle, spent Christmas with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kincaid in Stanfield. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bates and son, Bobby, of Modesto, Calif, has been visiting her father, Elmer Ball and other relatives here and in Heppner. Dinner guests at the Ted Palm ateer home Christmas, were, Miss Cecelia Healey of Portland, Mrs. Annie Healy of Butter Creek, Mrs. Echo Palmateer and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Cannon and children of lone. Children were entertained with a Christmas party at St. Williams church Saturday afternoon Dec.1 21. ' The members of the Baptist church gave a shadowgraph on the Nativity in seven scenes Fri day evening, Dec. 20 conducted by Mrs. Ruby Nichols. Rev. Bill Collier gave a talk and treats were given to all afterwards. The Nazarene church Sunday school presented a program at the grange hall Sunday evening Dec. 22. The young people gave a play in 5 scenes, "The best Gift," recitations were given by the children and treats were given to all. The following program was giv en after the grange meeting Sat urday evening Dec. 21, with Mrs. Harold Dobyns, in charge: a song, Away in a Manger by Sherry Corley and Sue Townsend with Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Mrs Harold Dobyns spent last week 'n Portland to be with her granddaughter, Tamara Ann, who was born Dec. 15 to Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Holly. Mr. Holly is the son of Mrs. Dobyns.
