Thanksgiving Day Sees Celebration Of 40th Anniversary The home of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Darst, 785 E. Ewald St., Salem, was the scene on Thanksgiving day, of a 40th wedding annivers ary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Carlson of lone. All of the Carlson's four child ren and families were present, including 12 grandchildren, two daughters, Mrs. John P. Darst of Salem and Mrs. Robert Hope of Eugene, and two sons, Clifford Carlson of Portland and Louis Csrlson of lone. Victor Leonard Carlson and Julia Amanda Hagstrom were married at Portland, Oregon on November 25, 1917. After their marriage they moved to the wheat ranch at lone, originally home steaded by Mr. Carlson's father, Andrew Carlson when he came to this country from Sweden in 1882. Those present were Mrs. E. K. Schaffitz Mrs. Wallace Wolff, Mrs. James Thomson, Mrs. P. W. Mahoney, Mrs. Tom Wilson, Mrs. Rpymond Ferguson, Mrs. Robert Tenland, Mrs. Earl Blake, Mrs. Claude Graham, Mrs. L. D. Tib mles, Mrs. Gene Ferguson, Mrs. Harold Cohn and the hostess. Mrs. Cohn held high score for the afternoon, Mrs. Gene Fergu son was second, Mrs. Blake third, and Mrs. Graham low. Mrs. Blake brought an assort ment of jams and jellies, all gift wrapped, and each member chose a jar as a special gift. 1 1 Tables in Play At Elks Ladies Night Six tables of pinochle and five of bridge were in play at the De cember ladies' night of the Elks lodge on Thursday. High score in pinochle was won by Mrs. Walter Beckett, sec ond by Miss Esther Bergstrom, and low by Mrs. Wilbur Worden. In bridge, Mrs. Gene Ferguson won first prize Mrs. Lowell Grib ble second and Mrs. John Wil liams low. Mrs. Oral Wright name was drawn for the door prize. Hostesses were Mrs. Philip Blakney, Mrs. James Healy, Mrs. Jerry Daggett, Mrs. James Nor ene, Mrs. Howard Cleveland, Mrs. Alex Thompson, Mrs. Paul Koen- ig and Mrs. Willard Blake. Saturday, Dec 12 Elks Hawaii Night. o Future Homemakers ' Give Annual Tea for Mothers, Daughters Seventy mothers and their daughters attended a Future Homemakers of America annual tea at the Heppner school home making room Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Robert Fergeson of Heppner talked to the group about France, her native, homeland, and made some interesting comparison of the homemaker in this country and in France. Mrs. Edna Turner, Heppner primary teacher, showed slides and narrated her trip to Central America and the Panama Canal Zone. She took the trip last sum mer with Mrs. Sam Turner. It was sponsored by the National Education association. One of the purposes of the FHA is to acquire more knowledge of people in oth er lands. Gordon Pratt, high school princ ipal, led the group in Christmas songs accompanied by Jarflce Martin. The attractive and artistic Christmas arrangements on the tea table and about the room were done by Shirley Van Winkle, Fern Albert and a committee of freshmen girls. Joann Brosnan, FHA president, poured.and Phyllis Quackenbush, secretary, presided at the punch bowl. Students assisting about the room were Ruth Peterson, Wilma Bothwell Judy and Jeanne Col lins, Judy Brinda, Carolyn Carter, Marlene Griffin, Sheryl Harris, Elaine Laird, Effie Lane, Doris Morris, Francine Moyer, Judy and Jeanne Schmidt, Mary Slocum, Bernice Thomson, Sandra Camp bell, Norma Fergeson, Sherry Lindsay, Mary Shannon, Darlene Turner, Geraldine Swaggart, and Libby Van Schoiack. Mrs. Dick Donald Honored At Shower Tuesday In lone Mrs. Dick Donald (Darlene Madden) was honored with a stork shower last Tuesday after noon at the Legion hall in lone. Opening of gifts and visiting was enjoyed during the after noon and later refreshments were served to about 25 guests. Many gifts were received from those unable to attend. Hostesses were Mesdames Rich ard Rea, Clyde Crawford, Wally Gaarsland.
