The combination, called "sum mer ice", usually occurs after a hot day is followed by a rain shower. Danger is increased because the. road does not look slippery and a driver may hit his brakes only to find his car sliding out of control. Drivers can reduce the hazard, officials said, if they will lower their speed as soon as a summer shower starts.
