'Summer Ice' Brings
Hazardous Driving
Rain mixing with accumulated
oil and dirt on a highway can
cause dangerously slippery con
ditions, Oregon safety officials
reminded drivers today.
The combination, called "sum
mer ice", usually occurs after a
hot day is followed by a rain
shower.
Danger is increased because
the. road does not look slippery
and a driver may hit his brakes
only to find his car sliding out
of control.
Drivers can reduce the hazard,
officials said, if they will lower
their speed as soon as a summer
shower starts.
