Merlin Zier. Duplicate Club Meets At Van Marter Home Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne" Van Marter entertained the Duplicate bridge club Friday evening. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Dick, Mr. and Mrs. William Barratt, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Gribble, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Blakney, Dr. and Mrs. Wallace Wolff, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wil son and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Pratt. High partners were Mrs. Van Marter and Mr. Dick, second high were Mrs. Wilson and Mr. Van Marter. Refreshments were served at the close of the evening. o Senior Girls Honored At Soroptimist Tea Sunday Afternoon Senior girls 'and their mothers were honored at a tea, given by Soroptimist International of Heppner, Sunday afternoon at the home of Miss Leta Humph reys. A welcome was given by presi dent, Mrs. Robert Penland; Mrs. Gordon Pratt sang, Then Ybu'll Remember, accompanied by Miss Janice Martin; Mrs. Roy Kirk, commercial teacher at the high school, spoke especially to the girls; Miss Karen Lundell of lone played two piano solos, The Surf and Fauns and during the tea hour she played incidental music; Linda Stewart gave a reading, Christopher Colombo. Mrs. C. E. McQuarrie had charge of the program. Mrs. Floyd Adams and Mrs. Penland poured at the lace cov ered table, which was centered with an arrangement of yellow tulips. Mardi Gras was the theme on both occasions. Joann . Brosnan was general chairman of the banquet, mothers of the Junior class prepared the dinner and sophomore girls ser ved. The program included singing and playing of the theme song, "Way Down Yonder in New Or leans" by Keith Imusi sax; Carl Spaulding, trumpet; Gordon Pratt, piano; and Norman Peters, trombone. Piano solos were played by Joann Brosnan and Helen Graham. Len Ray Sch warz was master of ceremonies and gave the toast to the sen iors. Frances Slocum gave the response. School board and faculty members and their hus bands and wives were special guests. A red and white color scheme was followed in deco rations. At the prom, attended by the entire student body, Janet Wright and Bill Brinda were crowned king and queen. Decorations in purple, green and gold included the thrones encircled with a crown, murals of scenes New Orleans, masks, balls and entr ance through the mouth of a clown. Judy Spaulding was general chairman; Janice Beamer. re freshment chairman and Jim Morris, crowning chairman. The music was by the Four Tones. lone Sorority Has Installation Banquet The members of Beta Omega chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha and their husbands enjoyed a banquet Saturday evening May 18 at the Hitchin' Post in Board man. A jewel pin ceremony and in stallation were also held. A jewel pin was presented to Mrs. Joe Hausler. The following officers were in stalled, Mrs. Eldon Padberg, president; Mrs. Ted Palmateer, vice president; Mrs. Bill Riet mann, recording secretary; Mrs. Donald Peterson, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Donald MoElli gott, treasurer; Mrs. L. F. Leath ers, educational director and Mrs. Walter Corley, historian. Dancing was enjoyed after the meeting with the Royal Dukes orchestra of Pendleton. o Soroptimists Have Shower Honoring Mrs. W. C. Collins Mrs. W. C. Collins was honored at a baby shower at the Thurs day noon meeting of the Sorop timist club at O'Donnell's. On the gift table was an at tractive centerpiece made by Mrs. Floyd Adams and for dessert birthday cake was served in honor of Mrs. Collins, Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Robert Dobbs and Mrs. James Hager, who all had birthdays in May. Final plans were made for the tea . honoring senior girls and their mothers of Heppner and Lexington. Rick Imus Celebrates Sixth Birthday Mrs. Keith Imus entertained with a luncheon Saturday after noon in honor of the sixth birth day of her son, Rick. Games were played during the afternoon and a birthday cake was a feature attraction. Farewell Given Lexington Family By Delpha Jones Mr. and Mrs. Ray Johnson were delightfully surprised one night last week when several of their friends dropped in with cake and coffee for a "farewell" party for them as they have moved to Chewelah, Washington. The evening was spent in visiting, and refreshments were served later to the following: Mr. and Mrs. E. E. McFadden and son Sonny, Mr. and Mrs. 0. G. Breed ing, Mr. and Mrs. George Stea gall, George Irvin, and Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Jones and children Kenny and Charlene. Three Links club met at the home of Mrs. June Cooper on Wednesday. At this time a committee of LaVerne Henderson and Delpha Jones was appointed to purchase fancy work for the club to do. Refreshments were served to Jo Irvin, Florence Mc Millan, Annie Keene, Delpha Jones and LaVerne Henderson and the hostess June Cooper. W. T. Schoonover and son Stanley and Maurice Forman of Fontana, California were visitors in Lexington Sunday night where Mr. Schoonover attended the Bac calaureate exercises for his son Raymond.' He has gone to Port land where he will spend several days visiting relatives before re turning to California. Stanley remained here for a visit with his mother, Mrs. June Cooper and relatives. The LexingtonP-TA sponsored the dinner given at the Elks on Thursday night for men's night. Those working on the committee were Berniece Wihlon, Em Peck, Dimple Munkers, Bertha Hunt, Otillia Hunt, Delpha Jones and the following high school girls who served, Rosetta Laney, Maureen Groves, Dora Sue David son, Charlene Jones and Eileen Padberg. Pfc. Jim Laney of Camp Pen dleton has been visiting his parents Mr. and Mrs. 0. Laney. Mrs. 0. Laney returned last week from New Mexico where she was called by the death of her mother. Mr. Laney's mother returned with her to Lexington for an extended visit. The Lexington P-TA met in the school auditorium last Tues day. After the business meeting called to order, the new officers of the P-TA were installed by the installing officer Ed Dick of Heppner. Those installed were: Barbara Cutsforth, pres.; La vonne Bloodsworth, vice pres.; Lorene Ledbetter, sec; and Jo Irvin, treas. Following this the group was entertained by Leon ard Munkers and Don Hatfield who sang a duet accompanied by Mrs." C. C. Carmichael; E. E. Peck and Gar Leyva then gave a clever pantomime of a couple of singing numbers. Last on the program was a style show given by the men of the P-TA with Bob Mathews acting as master of ceremonies. Those modeling were Dale Gardiner, Bill Parsons, Orville Cutsforth, Don Hatfield, Lyle Cox, Roy Martin, George Irvin, John Ledbetter, Leonard Munkers and Cecil Jones. Re freshments were served in the school cafeteria. Wilbur Steagall returned to his home last week after a stay In St. Anthony's hospital where he underwent surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Mathews motored to Springfield over the weekend taking George Her mann and Dexter Miles, who participated in the track meet there, with George bringing home a 5th place in the discus throw and Dexter a 6th in the pole vault. Vern Nolan who also motored down with them visited his sister, Miss Phyllis Nolan who is attending N. C. C. Mrs. W. E. McMillan and Mrs. A. F. Mjeske are attending the Rcbekah convention in Bend.
