Page 4 Heppner Gazette Times, Thursday, March H, 1957 Many Groups Take Part in World Day of Prayer The Union Missionary Society sponsored World Day of Prayer observance in meeting at the Heppner Methodist church Fri day March 8 at 2 p. m. with members of various church groups participating. The lesson taken from Romans 8:35 was conducted by Mrs. Lester Boulden. Others participating were Mrs. W. C. Erther mother of Mrs. Boulden of Weston; Mrs. William Rawlins representing the Lutheran church; Mrs. R. B. Rice, All Saints Episcopal church and Mrs. Marvin Boyd, the Christian church. Mrs. Lucy Pe terson sang a hymn. Theme of the meeting was "Who Shall Seperate Me". About twenty five attended. Altar Society Meets Tuesday Evening The Altar Society of St. Pat rick's Catholic church met Tues day night of last week with twenty five present. Members completed plans for serving luncheon to 4-H leaders work shop and planned a food and apron sale for a date prior to Mother's Day in May. Hostesses for refreshments were Mrs. Richard Brunner and Mrs. Robert Brindle. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Gllman and Mr. and Mrs. Del Jordan were in Portland for the weekend. Henry Rauch Feted On 65th Birthday Henry Rauch was surprised with a party at his home on his 65th birthday Sunday evenig. After a potluck dinner, games were enjoyed. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Alex Hunt, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hermann,' Mr. and Mrs. Julian Rauch, Mrs. Nora Klinger. Rev. and Mrs. Merlin Zier, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rauch, Mr. and Mrs. William Smethurst, Mr. and Mrs. Orval Matheny and child ren, Mrs. Richard Wells. Mr. and Mrs. Emil H. Winning partners were Mrs. C. E. McQuarrie and LaVerne Van Martpr and second hierh team was Mrs. Richard Meador and Phil Blakney. Gary Stephen son directed the play, Billie See hafer and Linda Heimbigner were the prompters and Wayne Ball was the stage manager. The cast presented Mr. Stephenson with a gift in appreciation of his work with the play. Refreshments were served afterwards with Kay bher er, Grace McCabe and Mary Emert In charge. The speech festival will be held in lone March 26. Students from the third grade up will be eligible to enter. Between the afternoon sessions and dinner there will be tumbling, folk danc ing and trampoline acts. There will be a slight charge for the dinner and speech festival. Everyone is invited. One act plays will be given after dinner. Julie Rietmann Is the new president of the Girl's League and Alyce Rea the new vice presi. dent. Spring vacation starts Thurs day of this week. Boardman Notes The Sugar and Spice 4-H cook ig class under the leadership of m,.- wniiam Garner met last Thursday at the home of Patti Partlow. Sandra Thorpe was taken in as a new member. She and Albert Carpenter lea tne i-n pledge and flag salute. Linda Daniels and Carlne Malone led the 4-H yell. Tonl Taylor and Patti Patlow gave a demonstra tion on table setting. There were 13 present. The next meeting will be at the home of Patty Mil ler Mach 21. pf III am 4-H ELECTRICITY CLUB A 4-H electric club was formed at lone. Mr. Joe Hausler Is our leader and Mr. Walter Corley is our assistant leader. We have divided into two group called Group 1 and Group 2. Lee Hams Is the president of Group 1, and this group consists of students who are members of either the fourth and fifth grade in Ione's school. The purpose of our club is to teach us to make electricity work for us safely. We have not yet learned how we are going to j ao mis Decause we are ust get ting organized. The Pledges were led by individuals of the group. The secretary re ported that a total of $51.00 was made from the sale of candy. Sandra demonstrated making muffins and Michelle made a salad. The next meeting .will be at Linda Halvorsen's home March 27. Refreshments of hot cocoa, Muffins, salad and cinnamon rolls were served by the hostess.
