A. Thompson, Heppner; Mrs. Will Ball, Portland and Mrs. Ella Warren, Walla Walla, by Mrs. Frank S. Parker, past ma tron of Ruth chapter. Oliver Creswick, accompanied by Mrs. J, R. Huffman, sang "Maytime" and "I Believe" in their honor. Also honored at this meeting were the past matrons and past patronS. The officers put on an addenda for them and each past matron and past patron was pre sented a Valentine favor by Mrs. ; L. D. Tibbies, conductress and Mrs. Paul Jones, associate con ductress, song was also sung in ;heir honor by Oliver Creswick. Use of Herbs Studied By Extension Unit The Rhea Creek Extension Unit met at the home of Mrs. Barton Clark on Wednesday, February 6. The subject of the demonstra tion was herbs and other season ings. Mrs. Walter Wright and Mrs. John Bergstrom prepared a dinner which was very much enjoyed. ORAH'S GREAT PRICE One - Half Heppner Gazette Times, Thursday, February 14, 1957 Zier-Slyter Ceremony Read Friday Evening In Portland Church Miss Alice Louraine Slyter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. How ard Mason Slyter of Portland, became the bride of Rev. Merlin William Zier of Heppner, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Zier of Davenport, Washington, Friday evening at central Lumeran church in Portland. Rev. Arne Christianson, assisted by Rev. George Randolph, officiated at the ceremony. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white Chan tilly lace and tulle dress, en train, with finger tip illusion veil falling from a matching lace cap edged in pearls and sequins. She carried a white orchid and hyacinths on a white Bible. Miss Joan Gustafson, maid of honor; Mrs. Donald Thomas, Mrs. Robert Senz, attendants; and Paris Ruth Slyter, her sister's junior bridesmaid, wore red vel veteen with white flowers. Howard Slyter, Jr., brother of the bride and Cecile Duquette were candlelighters. , George Zier was his brother's best man. Ushers were William Zier, , another brother; Robert Rummer, Rev. Edward Roleder, Rev. Gordon Braum, Rev. John Rose, and Rev. Raymond Pflue ger. The reception, following the ceremony, was held in Fellow ship, hall. Rev. and Mrs. Zier will be at home in Heppner. o Altar Society Plans February Card Party The Altar Society met Tuesday of last week at St. Patrick's Catholic church. Fifteen mem bers were present. Hostesses were Mrs. Jack Healy and Mrs. Harry O'Donnell, Jr. Plans were completed for the card party which was held on Monday, February 11 at the church. Plans were also made to serve lunch to the East-Ore-fonian 4-H leaders' worship March 7. Mrs. Paul Koenig Is chairman. It was announced that there will be a coffe hour after mass on Sunday March 3 with Mrs. Ger trude Applegate as chairman. The next meeting will be on March 5. o Birthday Party Held For Mrs. Runnion Mrs. V. R. Runnion was the honored guest at a birthday din ner Saturday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne Van Marter, Jr. Others present were V. R. Barton Clark Home Mrs. Barton Clark entertained Sunday afternoon, February 3, with a coffe hour for the bene fit of the March of Dimes. The sorority planned a food sale for February 14 at the Swan son store. For the program Mrs. Eunice McElligott gave a talk on first aid. The group ordered 12 robes for the Pioneer Memorial hospital. Plans were made for serving din ner for the Elks stag night in March. Mrs. Keith Rea Honored At Shower A bridal shower was given in honor of Mrs. Keith Rea in the lone Community church parlor Monday afternoon Feb. 11. Kay Sherer and Grace McCabe assist ed her with the gifts. The project leaders, Mrs. Sam Turner and Mrs. Drake, served a delicious dinner of herb gou lash with tomato dumplings, tossed green salad with sour cream herb dressing, fruit salad, celery and savory salt toast, rel ishes and spiced prune cake. Small bottle samples of differ ent kinds of herbs were used as a table centerpiece. Mrs. Clive Huston was guest and Mrs. Gene Ferguson, Mrs. Al Fctsch, Mrs. N. C. Anderson, Mrs. Bill Gentry, Mrs. Doug Drake, Mrs. Paul Warren, Mrs. Sam Turner and Mrs. Ray Drake were present. Favors for valentines were made for the older patients at Pioneer Memorial hospital. It was decided to hold a food sale on March 10, the place to be announced later. Bradley Fancher Surprised With Party Bradley D. Fancher, former Morrow county district attorney, was surprised Wednesday after noon with a going-away party held at the court house and given by the court house employees. Refreshments were provided and Fancher was presented with a gift from the group. The Fanchers will leave short ly to make their home in Bend. Ray Drakes Honor Twins With Dinner Mr. and Mrs. Ray Drake en tertained with a birthday dinner on Sunday February 10, in honor of the birthday of their twins, Claude Drake and Claudine (Drake) Warren. Other guests were the families of the guests of honor and Miss Susan Drake. Claude Drake and family were weekend guests at the Ray Drake home visiting here from their home in Richland, Washington.
