Page 4 Heppner Gazette Times, Thursday, February 14, 1957 Pinochle Party Given lone Masons Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ekstrom entertained the lone Masons and their wives at a pinochle party after the regular lodge meeting last Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Adon Hamlett and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Roberts served refreshments. High score for men was won by Ralph Taylor and Gar Leyva was low. For women, Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn was high and Mrs. Gar Leyva, low. Charles O'Connor received the door prize and Leo Crabtree the pinochle prize. o MEN SERVE BREAKFAST The Holy Name men of St. Patrick's Catholic church pre pared and served the annual breakfast to the women of the church last Sunday following mass. Lex P-TA And Students Plan Sweetheart Ball By Delpha Jones The executive board of the Lexington P-TA held its regular meeting at the Cecil Jones home on Wednesday evening. The plans for the Sweetheart ball were discussed, which is a yearly function given jointly by the high school students and their parents. This, is preceeded by the athletic banquet at which time the athletic awards for the vear are given. Committees were appointed at this time. Those present were: Keith 1 Peck, Denny Doherty, Pat Stea- gall, Maureen Groves, Dora Sue Davidson, and Hugo Leyva, and the hostess Charlen Jones. Later at 7:30 the committee of the P-TA met the students and dis cussed plans for the coming event. Those attending were: Lorene Ledbetter, Tess Hatfield, and Delpha Jones. Later in the evening several of the students dropped in and they enjoyed punch, pop corn and dancing. Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Cutsforth are spending some time in Port land and Salem. Mrs. PvOy Darnielle and child ren were visitors at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Newt O'Harra last weekend. On Sat urday Mr. and Mrs. O'Harra en tertained she and Mrs. Codrey, a nurse at, Pioneer Memorial hospi tal at luncheon. Asa Way has returned to Sea side, Oregon, where he is em ployed, after an extended visit with his family here. Mr, and Mrs. George Irvin and family motored to Portland over the weekend where they visited at the Bert Darnielle home. Mrs. Irvin ani two children remain ed for a weeks visit while Mr. Irvin and daughter Valda re turned home, Cub Scout Sunday will be ob served Sunday at the Christian church and all parents, scouts, explorers, and cubs are invited to this service. Following the services at 12:00 Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Henderson, den mothers, will have a coffee hour in the dining room of the church, all are urged to attend the services and the fellowship afterwards. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Steagall were Pendleton visitors one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Campbell were Walla Walla visitors on Wednesday, where they were at tending to some business mat tors. Mrs. Morris McCarl and Mrs. Bertha Hunt were Pendleton visi tors on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Livingston wore weekend visitors at the O. G. Breeding home. The Altar Society met at the home of Mrs. Don Hatfield on Wednesday with Mrs. Evonne Daly as co-hostess. Plans were made for their annual Dotluck dinner to be held at the BUI Doherty home. Those present were Nonio Pointer, Eerniece Lott, Frances Srhrago, Mary Doherty, Rose! la Lindsey, Nora Turner, Mary Ann Barclay, Jerry Doherty, Mane Steagall, Emma BresliUrs Evonne Daly and Tess Hatfield Mr. and Mrs. Bill Nichols en tertained with a birthday dinner parly Saturday night. It was in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ad kins of Hoppner and Mrs. Nic hols. Mrs. Ina Nichols is much im proved after being quite ill at her homo. Mrs. Armin Wihlon was a visitor at Redmond Tuesday. Mrs. Mildred Davidson enter tained the Amicitia club at her home last Tuesday. Instead of thp usual prizes, everyone re ceived a small gift. Mrs. Eugene Sawyer entertain ed with a party at the Ray Papi noau home Saturday night. It was in honor of her husband who is leaving for the army. Each school sends one nominee's name to Baker to be considered as a delegate to the council from this district. Boy and Girl of the month of January chosen on the basis of their good humor were announ ced last week at the Pep assem bly. Jerry Dougherty and Mari lyn Pettyjohn took these honors and were presented with a car nation corsage and boutonniere. February's Boy and Girl of the month were Dean Connor and Francine Francis chosen In the eyes of the student body for out standing school spirit. Announce ment was made at a special as sembly, February 12. Students attending the Pacific Slope press conference in Seat tle, February 22-24, are Meredith Thomson, Mary Stewart, Jim Morris, Judie Spaulding, Phyllis Quackenbush, Helen Graham Hehisch staff, and Jay Sumner, Janice Beamer, from the Mus tang. Margaret Kirk, Hehisch advisor Madge Thomson and Roy Quack enbush will accompany the group. The senior class of '57 chose the first of the week. . A student body meeting was held during 7th period on Tues day. The Pep club will sponsor the pep assembly this Friday and the dance after the Echo game on Saturday. 4-H Club News JOLLY CHEFS The lone Jolly Chefs met Feb ruary 9 at Mrs. Lindsay's with Arleta McCabe as hostess. Dianna Pettyjohn conducted the business meeting. One mem ber was absent. Kathy Rea led the group in singing. Mrs. Baker made a cake for the cooking III girls. Each of the cooking II girls cooked an egg a different way. Arleta served refreshments of strawberry shortcake and cocoa. The next meeting will be at Dianna's February 27.
