Local! arrangements are being made by ! the Wasco county extension ser vice, assisted by Dr. James Stew art, Salem, of the state depart ment of education's vocational rehabilitation division. Other state rural health leaders attending will include Harley Libby, Jefferson, chairman of the state Rural Health Council and state president of Oregon Far mers Union, and council secretary Mrs. Mabel Mack, assistant di rector of Oregon State college ex tension service. Mrs. Mildred Hammel, chair man of the Wasco group, says a "people's" program is planned and urges attendance by organi zation representatives from throughout Eastern Oregon. In addition to main speakers, the program will feature a skit on mental health and a panel discussion of the "health dollar." Panel topics include: know your county health facilities, health insurance, hospital services and costs, and dental care. Full program details will be announ ced soon. This is one of two regional health conferences scheduled in Oregon this winter with a West ern Oregon meeting slated for January 29 at Coos Bay. The annual state conference will be at Salem, March 27 and 28, Mrs. Mack said. No Shipping Fever Reported From Here Hood River and Umatilla were the only Columbia Basin counties which contributed to the most common animal disease in Ore gon during November. This di sease was hemmorrhagic septi cemia, commonly called "Ship ping fever", which also was the greatest killer of Oregon live stock during that same period, says the state department of agri. culture. Of the over 500 shipping fever cases tallied in the state, four of 20 cases were fatal in Hood River county. One of 90 ship ping fever cases caused death in Umatilla county, which had Ore gon's second largest case load for this disease during November. Lake county was hardest hit.
