Pag 4 Heppner Gazette Times, Thursday, December 27, 1956 12th Night Ceremony Planned at lone By Echo Palmateer The Garden club met at the home of Mrs. Omar RIetmann Tuesday afternoon Dec. 18 with Mrs. Phil Emert as co-hostess. There were 16 members and one guest, Mrs. Lloyd Knight, present. At the business meeting plans were made for the 12th Night ceremony. It will be held on the Rietmann vacant lot on Main street Sunday, Jan. 6 at 5 p. m. Anyone having Christmas trees or greenery should leave them in the parking area and they will be picked up by boys to be burned at the ceremony. Mrs. Omar Rietmann is the chair man of the program. Members of the club decorated a tree in the city park. Wrapped gifts were brought for the nursing home in the Pioneer Memorial hospital. Mrs. Fred rick Martin received the prize for the best wrapped gift. An ex change of gifts was also held. Swags were made and placed on doors and windows in the busi ness houses in town. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dobyns are spending the holidays with their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Tad Hardesty in Eugene. Wallace Matthews was called to Coquille last week on account of the death of his brother-in-law, Archie Bushnell. Guests last week at the Dale Ray home were Mr. and Mrs. Marion Hayden and Mr. and Mrs. Clive Huston of Heppner, Claude Brashers and Bill Brashers and son, and Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Brashers and children of Lyle, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. John Armington and daughter left for their home in Los Angeles last week after visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ray, Mrs. Aarmington and daughter spent three weeks here while Mr. Armington was on a trip east Mr. and Mrs. Donald Brashers of Goldendale, are the parents of a daughter born Dec. 17. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ray are the great grandparents. The Arnica club held their an nual Christmas party at the home of Mrs. Milton Morgan, Wednes day Dec. 19 with Mrs. Raymond Lundell as co-hostess. They re vealed their secret pals and drew names for another year. Mrs. John Proudfoot received the door prize. Dates to remember: Dec. 29 Social club of the Eastern Star at the home of Mrs. Walter Corley. Jan. 2 School starts. Jan. 5 Basketball game here with Condon. Mrs. Earl McCabe entertained the Auxiliary Junior girls at a party at the Legion hall Dec. 17. There were 15 present. Lona White, JoAnn Turner and Linda Hams assisted with the games. An exchange of gifts was held. Refreshments were served after the party. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Crum and family spent the holidays with relatives in The Dalles. Rev. and Mrs. Charles Wilkes and family visited relatives-in Seattle over the holidays. Christmas guests at the Cecil Thome home were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Grassi and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Grassi of Walla Walla. Airman Norman Piper of Las Vagas, Nev., spent the holidays with his mother, Mrs. Frances Piper. Mrs. Grant Rigby returned from the Pioneer Memorial hospital on Tuesday of last week after being a patient there with pneumonia. The H. E. C. of Willows grange met at the home of Mrs. Harold Dobyns Friday Dec. 21 with Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen and Mrs. Her shall Townsend as hostesses. An exchange of Christmas gifts Was held. Ed Buschke of Morgan and granddaughters Patricia and Shir ley Peck of Sclo spent the holi day with his son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Buschke at Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Horton of Dallas spent the holidays with their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Martin. Patti Jean Holt and Susan Healy spent a few days at the Ted Palmateer home. Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Stract and children of San Lorenzo, Calif., spent the holidays with her mo ther, Mrs. Echo Palmateer. The lone teachers and their families who are spending Christmas away are: Mrs. Harriet Hall visited her son-in-law and daughter in Cincinnati, Ohto. She made the trip by plane. Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Ely visited rela tives in Portland and their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Fayne Ely In Forest Grove. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hausler and family visited in Salem and other places in the Willamette valley. Mr. and Mrs. Don Brostrom and son visited in Dallas. Gary Stephenson went to Salem. Mrs. Emma Dally went to Bandon and Miss Zoe Porfily to her home in Prineville. Students home from college and other schools are: Oregon State College Larry Rietmann. My Neighbors "As a matter of fact, I DID list him as a dependent. Any objections?" Lt. Don Bennett has been home from Pensicolt, Florida, to spend the holidays with his father, Ed Bennett. Monument News Verne McCarty and Verne Mat teson moved Mr. and Mrs. Bob Kingman to Alturas, California the 14th, where Bob reported to work for Suprise Valley Electri fication Co-op. The George and Harry Capons drove to Bend last Monday to visit their mother. Mr. and Mrs. George Stirritt were called to John Day Wednes day because of her nieces was in the hospital there following a car wreck. Mr. and Mrs. Ro Arlet Cork and children of Roseburg are here for a few days visiting with their folks, Edna Moore, Darlene Boyer and Roy Cork families. Mr. nd Mrs. Melvin Rounds and boys, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Les lie and children of Hoopa, Cali fornia are here with their folks, the Ed Rounds and Roy Corks, for the holidays. Helen Brown and Oletta Far rens are Santa's helpers, they have kept the window at the post office open from 8 to 5 every day but Sunday for the past two wekes. Dale Matteson spent the week end at Camp 5 visiting at the Walter Bastain home. The Later Day Saints held their Christmas meeting Sunday morning in the grange hall. The Community church held their Christmas program Sunday evening at the church. The Seventh Day Advents held services Saturday in the grange hall and the St. Anne's Catholic church held their meeting Sun day afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Holmes drove to the valley for the holi days and visit their folks. IONE JOLLY CHEFS The lone Jolly Chefs cooking club met December 18 at the home of Mrs. Baker. After a brief business meeting was held we prepared our dinner. The cooking III girls prepared the main course and the cook ing II girls arranged the salad and dessert. Following the dinner we played games and sang Christmas carols. Our next meeting is tenta tively set for January 12 at the home of Sherry Corley.
