2 SHOP f J rrvtrf r m Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, December 13, 1956 lone Auxiliary Plans Hungarian Aid Program By Echo Palmateer The American Legion Auxiliary met at the Legion hall Tuesday afternoon Dec. 4. At the business meeting conducted by Mrs. Vic tor Rietmann, president it was decided to send clothing to the Hungarians. Clothing may be left in boxes in the stores or at the Victor Rietmann home. Good clean clothing for men, women or children is acceptable. Mrs. G. Hermann, chairman of the child welfare, stated that the Heppner Cleaners will clean the clothing if brought to them by the chairman. Refreshemnts were served after the meeting by Mrs. Elmer Holtz and Mrs. Robert Jepsen. There will be no more auxiliary meet ings in December. Mrs. Dora Pierrot of Portland is visiting her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Ely. A larger crowd attended the Christmas party at the Rebekah hall Sunday evening. A potluck supper was served after which Christmas carols were sung led by Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn accom panied by Mrs. Geo Drake. A good will offering was given for the I.O.O.F. home in Portland. The hall was decorated with a Christmas tree, and other Christ mas ornaments. A birthday party was held after the regular Rebekah lodge meeting Thursday evening Dec. 6. Those present who had birthdays during the past three months were Mrs. E. R. Mr. and Mrs. Joel Barnett and children of Seattle visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bar nett last week. Among those from here who attended the Wheat League in Portland last week were: Mr. and Mrs. Milton Morgan, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Howton, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Morgan, Roy Lindstrom, James Lindsay and Norman Nel son. Malcolm McKinney is a patient in the Emanuel hospital in Port land where he underwent an operation on his arm. Kenneth Smouse and Dick Ek strom both underwent appendec tomies at the Pioneer Memorial hospital last week. Mrs. Sara Trabaugh is a pa tient in the Pioneer Memorial hospital. Mrs. Herman Blettell returned home Thursday of last week from a month's trip to Orlando, Flor ida where she visited her son-in-law and daughter, A3C and Mrs. Harry Snider. She made the trip by train. Mrs. Robert Peterson was hon ored with a stork shower at the home of Mrs. Jimmy Pettyjohn Friday of last week. Other hos tesses were Mrs. Elmer Holtz, Mrs. Roger Kincaid and Mrs. Louis Carlson. The lone extension unit met at the Masonic hall Thursday Dec. 6. The hostesses were Mrs Bryce Keene, Mrs. Robert Wood roof and Mrs. Shirley Baker. Mr. and Mrs. L. A. McCabe and Mrs. Arthur . Keene visited Mr. Keene at the T B hospital in The Dalles Sunday. He is there for a check up. Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Crawford; and daughters an,d Mrs. Franklin Ely spent Saturday in The Dalles. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Nichols and children of Lexington were din ner guests at the Eldon Tucker home Sunday, i Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rietmann and son, Mark, spent the weekend with relatives in Arlington and Blalock. Dates to remember: Dec. 14 -Topic club meeting at the home of Mrs. Echo Palmateer at 2:15 p. m. Each member to bring a guest. Dec. 16 The grange meeting will be held hi the afternoon; also a Christmas program and Santa Claus. All grange mem bers and their families are wel come. A pot luck dinner will be served at noon. Dec. 16 The Christmas pro gram at the Community church beginning at 6:30 p. m. Everyone welcome. Dec. 18 Garden club meeting at the home of Mrs. Omar Riet mann. A wrapped gift by each member for the nursing home in the hospital in Heppner, also an exchange of gifts. This meeting was postponed from last week. Dec. 19 Arnica club meeting at the home of Mrs. Milton Mor gan in the afternoon. Dec. 20 The community Christ mas program and tree In the school cafetorium at 7:30 p. m. Dec. 21 H. E. C. at the grange hall. Bibles were presented to the following at the Community church Sunday morning: Arleta McCabe, Dolores Emert, Sherry Corley, Tommy Heimbigner, Sue Townsend and Stephen Lind strom. They recited their Bible memory work and were promoted from the Jolly Juniors to the Junior class last fall. Mrs. Phil Emert, teacher of the Jolly Jun iors presented the Bibles. Mrs. E. M. Baker is the teacher of the Junior class. Mrs. Mary Morris, mother of Mrs. Roxie Moeck, died in Port land Wednesday Dec. 6. .. Funeral services were held in Portland Dec. 8 and interment Dec. 10 at Redmond.
