They are now (Lyons Photo) Soroptimist Club Has Trip Around The World Thursday Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Carty took the Soroptimist club on a trip around the world with col ored slides, at the noon meeting of the club Thursday at O'Don nell's. Mrs. Carty was dressed in a native costume of India." She explained the costume and the jewelry and also narrated the slides shown by Mr. Carty. The longest stop on the tour was in Israel and Egypt to help the understanding of the situa tion there now. Rev. Laney was united in marriage to Pvt. Gerald Messenger, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Messenger, Sr. of Mitchell. The bride, eiven in marriaee bv her father, was beautiful in a white brocade dress with fineer tip veil. She carried a white Bible witn a cascade of pinK carnations. The double rine ceremonv was! read by Rev. Norman Northrup, Miss Rosetta Lanev. sister of the bride, was maid of honor and Miss Dora Sue Davidson, brides maid. Both wore coral colored ballerina length dresses and car ried nosegays of white carna tions. Carroll Messeneer was best man for his brother and usher was James Laney, brother of the bride. Mrs. Carl Marquardt, sister of the groom, played the wedding music and accompanied Truman Messenger, ir:'., brother xi the groom, who sang "The Lord's Prayer". Candlelighters were T. E. Mes senger Jr. and Franklin Messen ger. Following the ceremony, while the couple knelt at the altar, Franklin Messenger sang "The Wedding Prayer"., The church was decorated with baskets of pink and white flow ers. A reception was held at the nome ot the bride's parents fol lowing the ceremonv. The table was covered with a lace cloth and centered with a two tier cake decorated with a miniature bride and groom and wedding bells. The cake was made and decorated by Mrs. Bill a. Marquardt. The pink rose bud theme was carried out elsewhere in the room and the napkins were adorned with pink rosebuds. Pouring were Mrs. T. E. Mes senger, Jr. of Hermiston and Mrs. G. A. Hudspeth, Madras, an aunt of the bride. Cutting the cake was Mrs. Franklin Messenger. For going awav the bride wnrp a champagne colored two-piece suit witn beige accessories. After a short wedding trip the bride will continue her studies at Lexington high school where she is a senior and the groom will go to his Marine base in California Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. C. Extension Unit Meets at Grange Hall Sixteen were present last Wed nesday afternoon at the Rhea Creek Extension meeting held at the grange hall. Mrs. Jane Raw lins and Mrs. DeLeva Rill were the leaders, on Oregon Sweets. They made many kinds of sweets using Oregon products. Their demonstrations included creamy fruit and nut and non crystallin kinds. They also served the luncheon to the members. The next meeting of the unit will be December 5. HOMELESS? Nys, Mrs. Frank Wilk inson and Mrs. Earle Gilliam were hostesses Thursday of last week for two parties, a bridge lunch eon in the afternoon and for bridge and dessert in the even ing. In attendance at the ceremony which was read by Rev. George R. S. Little, were Winn Crist, Mrs. William A. French, mother of the groom, and Howard Eveland. The couple will make their home in Heppner. Mrs. Farley Hostess For Renegers Club Mrs. James Farley was hostess to the Renengers Wednesday night of last week for dessert bridge. Mrs. William Labhart was high, Mrs. Paul Webb, second and Mrs. William Barratt, low. Rebekahs Visit In Stanfield Sunday Twenty four members of Sans Souci Rebekah lodge made a surprise visit to Stanfield Sunday to present that group with the traveling gavel. Two members and one guest from Pendleton also attended. Mrs. Altha Kirk presented a skit and Mrs. Frank Ayers read the log. Refreshments were iurnished by the Heppner and Stanfield members. o Youth Group Hears Talk On Communism Roy Kirk spoke on Commun ism and its effects on our world, at the Methodist Youth Fellow ship meeting Sunday evening. A picture on My Fund and Yours was shown portraying the mission work accomplished by the Youth Fund. Singing and table games were enjoyed and refreshments were served by Sheryl and Renne Har ris. Mrs. Norman Peters was in charge of the program and pre sented David Pahl of Pendleton, who spoke on his trip to the Uni ted Nations. After his talk he answered questions. Final plans were made for the bazaar on November 17.
