7 Pagt4 Heppner Gazette Times, Thursday, August 2, 1956 Boardman Family Returns From East By Mary Lee Mailow Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Messenger, accompanied by Messenger's daughter, Mrs. Marie Cogill of Portland, returned home last week from a five-week vacation trip through several states. They went first to Grand Island, Nebr. thev visited Mrs. Messen ger's brothers and sisters, Robert and George Beberniss, Mrs. tmu Hann and Mrs. Dora Henne. Mrs. Messenger had not seen them for 29 years. From there they went to Kingman, Kansas to visit Mes senger's brother and sisters, Ros coe Messenger, Mrs. Ed Beland ingham and Mrs. Retta Duffe, and Mrs. Clara Beck at Wichita, ifans Thov then went to Custer City, Okla., where they visited two brothers and a sistcr-in-iaw nf Mrs. Messenger's, Elmer and William Beberniss and Mrs. Augusta Beberniss. Next they visited Messenger's brother, Wayma Messenger, in Espinola, N. Mexico, and went through the Grand Canyon in Arizona. On their return trip they visited Mr. and Mrs. Roy Smith at Danville, Calif., and at Walclport where they saw Mrs. Messenger's sister, Mrs. Otto Macken. Last Sunday they went to The Dalles to visit Messenger's son-in-law, and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank JIammell. Mrs. Bill Wilson was hostess for a party Saturday afternoon at her home in honor of her daugh ter Susan's sixth birthday, and her daughter Connie's fourth birthday. Guests were Mrs. Wil son's mother, Mrs. Arthur Gra ham, and Sherry Lee and Gary Miller, Ilermiston; Mrs. Joe Ta tone and Linda and Jody, Diane Black, Karen Gronquist, Jeanette and Gary Hiigel; Cinda, Nancy and Andrea Morlan; Susanne Holmboe of Portland, and Patty Beall of Eugene. Mrs. William Mead and Mrs. Esler Moore were hostesses for a pink and blue shower In honor of Mrs. James Walker last Thurs day evening at the Walker home. Guests were Mrs. William Garner, Mrs. Claud Coats, Mrs. Glen Mills, Mrs. Dewey West, Mrs. Leonard Bedord, Mrs. Clifford Jones and Mrs. Frank Parmer. Prizes were won in a gam'e by Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Parmer and Mrs. Walker. A farewell party was held at the grange hall last Friday night for Mr. and Mrs. Max Vannoy and family, who are leaving nere the first of August to move to Davis, Calif, to live. About 60 attended. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Vinson and son Kenneth of Abilene, Kansas visited at the home of Vinson's cousin, Mrs. Florence Root on Thursday of last week on their way to Dallas. Miss Jean Scott, Miss Zelma Cowan and Mrs. Elvin Ely left on Thursday of last week for Can non Beach where they will attend thp Rihlp conference for ten days. Miss Scott will go from there to Seattle, Wash, to visit her mother for two weeks. Robert Berger, The Dalles, resi dent here for many years, was guest speaker at the Community church Sunday morning. The Tillioum club met on Tues day of last week at the home of Mrs. Eldon Shannon, with ten members present. Plans were made for the dance to be held at Heppner. Saturday, Aug. 4, In honor of Maxine Sicard, Board man's princess in the Morrow county fair court, who is sport sored by the club. Committees for the dance were appointed as fol lows: Mrs. William Garner, or chestra and hall; Mrs. Shannon and Mrs. Joe Tatone, food; Mrs. Ralph Skoubo, change. Plans were made for next year's yearbook at the meeting. The club is making plans for erecting a fence around the wading pool in the city park to keep animals out of the pool. Mr. and Mrs. Don Tannehill and three children, La Grande, were weekend visitors at the home of Tannehill's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Tannehill, on their way home from a trip to Calgary, Alta. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Veelle, Sr., Estacada, visited at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Stewart, over ; the weekend.
