Portland with their other daugh ter Frances Noland and family. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Saddler and sons of John Day spent the holidays with her folks, the Rho Bleakmans on Monument moun tain. Robert Gertsen returned from Portland where he spent the holi days with his mother. Chet Rounds, who is in the John Day Clinic, Is reported to be'on pubiic accountanting, attend- coming along fine. He expects to undergo surgery again soon. Ben Spain has returned to his office here after spending the holidays at Couer d'Alene, Idaho with his family. Sara Kane, county extension agent was in town Jan. 3. "Pres sing" was the lesson of the meet ing. The next meeting will be Jan. 16 and the lesson will be dress preliminary. Clenta Mellor is leader here. Millie Wilson spent a few days in the Heppner hospital. She re turned home to have her daugh ter Irene Hanson of Portland take her to Portland over New Years. She returned to her home here Jan .6. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Kincaid, Mr. and Mrs. George Capon and Tommy Haywood drove to Bend Jan. 4 for dental work. Betty Ward of Long Creek visi ted at the Matteson home Thurs day evening. Mr and Mrs. Joe Wheeler rush ed their son Bobby Joe to the doctor at Redmond Sunday night. They returned Tuesday. It is reported fishermen arp having good luck down the river. The Legion and Auxiliary will hold asecpial meeting next Tues day night in the grange hall to plan their Gay 90s dance which takes place Jan. 21. Wave Jackson was showered with birthday cards Friday. The M. M. M. club met at the home of Mae McWillis Jan. 5 with Theo Owings as co-hostess. Present were Doris Capon, Wave Jackson, Mary DuBosch, Helep Brown, Grace Starrett, Eva Ma line, Iris Kincaid, Goldie Rounds, Betty Vestle and Martha Matte son. The roll call was answered by naming secret Dais for last year. New secret pals were! drawn for next year. The next' meeting will be with Doris Capon year, ihe next Jan. 19. Emery Moore and daughter Mrs. Stanley Boyer drove to Prine ville Tuesday on business. Ann Erhardt and Mrs. Leo Mur ray drove to Portland Jan. 1 tak ing Jack Erhardt back to college. The women spent the week there shopping and visiting. Jessie Matteson spent the week end at Long Creek at the Ray Wards. A party was given Saturday night at the grange hall for the newest newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Slocum who were married In Canyon City Dec. 19. They re ceived presents from the M. M. M. club, ladies aid and the H. E. C. Wayne Leathers furnished the music for the evening. Ross McDonald of Long Creek was a weekend visitor at the Dick Williams. Mr and Mrs. Henry Martin have been in Salem on business. The Quill and Scroll will have a candlelight installation of the new members. Mrs. Irene Wilson will be the guest speaker. On Friday, Jan. 13, at 9:30 a. m. Mr. Sfpwart will attend an 'executive mmmittee meeting of the Oregon Association of Sec ondary School Principals, to be held at the University of Oregon. Among reports given at the meeting will be armed forces in high school program, and a dis cussion of a request for reviving academic requirements for ath letic eligibility. The winter conference of the Oregon Association of Secondary School Principals begins at 1:15 on Friday. They will discuss school activities and hear reports ance, moral and spiritual values, and high school principalship. Addresses will be given by Dr. Paul Jacobson, Dean of the School of Education at the Uni versity of Oregon, and James D. Logden, principal of Sherwood high school, Sherwood, Wiscon sin.
