"Mrs. Edna E. Bradley of Clatskanie, Oregon. A business meeting was held In preparation for the district con vention at lone Thursday, Octo ber 27th. Mrs. Rufus Piper was in charge of the meeting at which ninety were In attendance. Mrs. Piper presented a gift to Mrs. Bradley and other gifts were presented to Mrs. Burl Drury, past president.Coburg, by Mrs. Altha Kirk; to Mrs. Lola Osborne, past president, of Portland by Mrs. John Bergstrom and to Mrs. Helen Davis, past president, of seaside. Other guests were Mrs. Velma Holmes, Pendleton who is presi dent of the Northwest Oddfellows Association, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest House, Portland, Mrs. Ruby Drake, Boise, Idaho, President 'Patriarch Militant Association of Idaho; Leota Stewart, Coburg, Oregon; Marjorie Maxwell, Til lamook, Oregon; Velma Stolsig, Vice President of Patriarch Mili tant, Coburg; Leila Ohlsen, Sa lem; Charlotte Easton, Redmond; Blanche Johnson, Gresham; Edith Cleringer, Rupert, Idaho; Lady Gladys Sheer, Pendleton, and others from Idaho, Lexington, lone and Hardman. Tuesdays Rainbow Girls Have Dinner-Initiation The supreme adviser of the Order of Rainbow for Girls, Miss Lucille Dayball of Portland, was guest of honor at a dinner given by the Heppner Rainbow Girls Wednesday evening October 19. About 50 members and guests at tended. Mrs. Mary Van Stevens, mother advisor, gave a talk, as did Miss Dayball and Virginia Andresen, worthy advisor, who introduced her officers. The dinner was served by the women of the Order of Eastern Star and was followed by the regular business meeting and in itiation of two members, Alice Faye and Mary Jo Stewart. o Farewell Party Held For Jeff Carters Saturday Evening Mr. and Mrs. Jack Angel and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Smith were hosts last Saturday evening at a potluck dinner party at the Angel home, honoring Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Carter who are leaving soon to make their home in Payette, Idaho. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Koenig, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pen land, Dr. and Mrs. E. K. Schaffitz, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Blakney, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sanders, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Dick, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. William Barratt, Dr. and Mrs. Wallace Wolff, Dr. and Mrs. L. D. Tibbies, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bed ford, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hep ner and Mrs. Beatrice Bedford of Portland and the honorees. Dancing was enjoyed later in the evening. Another feature of the party was a psychanalysis for those who desired it by a talent ed member of the group. o St. Monica Guild Meets Tuesday St. Monica Guild of All Saints Episcopal church -met at the par ish hall Tuesday evening, Octo ber 18 with seventeen present. It was reported that the guild re ceived $55.00 from their food sale October 14. Plans were made for the Elks dinner Thursday the 20th. Hostesses were Mrs. Robert Fer rell and Mrs. Frank Anderson. For the next meeting which will be held the first Tuesday in November, hostesses will be Mrs. James Farley and Mrs. James Valentine. David Gunderson Has Second Birthday David Gunderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Gunderson cele brated his second birthday, Sat urday, October 22 with a party at the home of his parents. Guests were Gary and Jayne Dowen, Johnny and David Hall, Nancy Ferrell, Bruce and Hal Bergstrom and Terry Miller. Birthday cake and ice cream were served. The only all-purpose station wagon ! Miss Grace Miller Sets Wedding Date Mr. and Mrs. Russell K. Miller of Boardman announce the en gagement of their daughter, Lau rel Grace Miller, to William Ver non Carpenter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W. Carpenter of La Grande. The wedding will be an eventl of November 20 at the Boardman Community church. o Soroptimist Club Hears Report On Fund Raising Drives Mrs. Jos. Hughes gave a report on the fund raising drives in the county, at the Soroptimist club luncheon Thursday at O'Don nell's. She told the chairmen of each of the drives and approximately how much they raised in their drives. In a report on the card party it was told that about $100 was raised, which is enough to fi nance the hayride given each Hallowe'en for all teenagers. o Rainbow Official Honored At Luncheon A luncheon was held Wednes day noon October 19 at O'Don nell's in honor of Miss Lucille Dayball of Portland, supreme ad visor of the Order of the Rainbow Girls. Present were Mrs. Harold Bec ker, a district deputy for the Or der of Rainbow for Girls; Mrs. Mary Van Stevens, mother ad visor; Miss Virginia Andresen, worthy advisor; Mrs. Paul Jones, Mrs. Dick Wilkinson, Mrs. How ard Bryant Mrs. Claude Graham, Mrs. James Thomson and Mrs. L. D. Tibbies. Guests were Mesdames W. O. George, Harold Cohn, Gene Fer guson, Robert Penland, James Thomson, Loyal Parker, C. C. Car michael, Ralph Thompson, E. E. Gilliam, L. D. Tibbies, A. D. Mc Murdo, Frank Turner, E. K. Schaffitz, Wallace Wolff, Clar ence Rosewall, and Claude Gra ham. Mrs. J. L. Jones of Portland, mother of Mrs. Blake, was also a guest. A novel inovation was that all the guests received prizes, draw ing from a large basket of gifts. Mrs. Ferguson holding high score drew first and Mrs. Turner with second had the next choice, after that each guest drew in turn, ac cording to her score. Bridge Club Meets At W. O. George Home Mrs. W. O. George entertained the What's Trumps bridge club last Wednesday afternoon with a salad luncheon. Those present were Mrs. E. K. Schaffitz, Mrs. Harold Cohn, Mrs. P. W. Mahoney, Mrs. Robert Pen land, Mrs. James Thomson, Mrs. Wallace Wolff, Mrs. Tom Wilson, Mrs. Gene Ferguson and the hos tess. Mrs. La Verne Van Marter was in charge of the affair and was assisted by Mrs. Virginia Snow, Mrs. Robert Miller, Mrs. Pat O' Brien, Mrs. Alex Thompson, and Mrs. James Farley. Pine City Extension Unit Plans Programs Pine City Extension Unit met last Wednesday at the Pine City school to plan programs for six extension units. Miss Beverly Bradshaw, home extension agent discussed exten sion work this year and evalu ated last years program includ ing grooming, meals and furni ture touch ups.
