Page 4 Heppner Gazette Times, Thursday, September 1, 1955 Tea at Lex Church Monday Honors Don Campbells By Delpha Jones The Lexington Christian and Congregational church and Sun day schools gave a tea for the Don Campbell's on Monday night. First on the program was the introduction of Mr. and Mrs. Campbell and daughters Laura and Doreen to the group, after which group singing was greatly enjoyed with Mr. Brent leading accompanied by Mrs. Brent at the piano. The" singing was followed by prayer offered by Rev. L. G Wet el after which people spent a few minutes in visiting while the refreshments were prepared. The table was beautifully deco rated with clear crystal servings and a candalabra with green candles and pom pom dahlias of pastel colors. Other flowers were pastel colored dahlias sitting about the room. Mrs. June Coo per poured coffee and Mrs. Aud r?y Anstcd the punch. Others assisting about the rooms were: Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Munkers, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Miller, Mrs. Irene Nolan and daughter Phy liss, Mrs. Bill B. Marquardt, and Mrs. C. C. Jones. There were about 45 present. Mr. tnd Mrs. Campbell who have lived here for nine years with Mrs. Camp bell serving as primary teacher to the Sunday school, and Mr. Camp bell as church chairman of the board, Sunday school superinten dent, P-TA members with Mrs. Campbell as treasurer and active in many city affairs. Don was a member of this school having graduated from here, has served on the City Council, Is member of the Masonic Lodge and the Lexington Grange. He served in the U. S. They are going to make their home In Eugene where Mr. Camp bell has enrolled in Northwest Christian College. Mr. and Mrs. George Steagall and family were Klnzua visitors over Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Brent were campers at Minan Lake several days last week. Lexington was quite deserted Saturday evening, when quite a number of citizens attended the East-West Shrine football game in Pendleton, where a local boy, Larry Groves played. At this time Larry received a trophy for the best back. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Whillock and daughter Sandra were Lexington visitors from Brookings. Oregon last week. Mrs. Whillock is the daughter of Mrs. Emma Bres-hears. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Munkers ( have returned from a vacation spent at the coast and in Port land. Mrs. Pine Thornburg stayed with the Munkers children while they wre away. Misses Joan Patrick and Sha ron Cutsforth were hostesses to a: party at the O. W.Cutsforth ranch on Saturday night honoring Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Lindstrom of lone and Mr. and Mrs. Cutsforth who are soon leaving 'for an around the world trip. Games and cards were enjoyed and later re freshments were served. There were about 30 guests present. Kay Peck, small daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Peck suffered a very painful injury in a fall at her home on Thursday. She was taken to Heppner to a physician. Mr. and Mrs. Don Hatfield sp:-nt Thursday in Wallowa, Ore gon. Phyllis Nolan is employed at Hatfield Grocery in Lexington. Announcements are being re ceived in Lexington of the marri age on Aug. 19 at Stevenson, Washington, of Berniece Lowe of Redmond, Oregon to Armin Wih lon of this city. At present the cople are residing in Redmond. Mr. and Mrs. Newt O'Harra left Monday for, Portland for a few days. A correction for last weeks paper is Mrs. Newt O'Harra was also a guest at the Padberg Cradle shower. Mrs. Jim Angell is a patient in rioneer Memorial hospital in Heppner. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Johnson were Umatilla visitors on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Fletcher of Tortland were Lexington visitors on Saturday evening. - Mrs. Bill Nichols was a Board man visitor on Monday. Mrs. Gladys Young and children have moved into the Bloodsworth house. Mr. and Mrs. Covall were Pen dleton visitors on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Soward and Wayne were dinner guasts Mon day evening at the J. E. Craber home. I ON E School Notes Hieh schoool registration was in full swing starting Monday and continuing on through Tues day. Along with registration Mon day morning, football physicals were given by Dr. McMurdo, as sisted by Mrs. Velma Glass, to the boys at 9:00 in the gym. Everything was handled very smoothly. ' Football players were also is sued football gear and then fol lowed some calisthenics with general first day routine com pleting the day. A great deal oi enthusiasm was shown by both boys and coaches. Coach Wayne Pierce arrived Saturday so was also on hand to help coach Larry Pryse with his charges. I Other new teachers were ar riving Monday. Some were ad-1 justing themselves to their new. surroundings while others were orientating themselves to their new class rooms. The first teach ers' meeting will be 10:00 a. m. September 1st. The rest of the day teachers will make plans and readjust plans for the coming year. Parents who would like to at tend this year's National School Assembly programs are cordially invited to attend. These dates are:, Sept. 159:00 a. m. Sept. 283:00 p. m. Dec. 811:00 a. m. Feb. 11:00 p. m. Apr. 1012:50 p. m. The school programs are usu ally very good. As a second reminder to par ents: School the first day Sept. 6 will be in session until approxi mately 10:30. The children will be dismissed at this time, those who ride busses will return short ly after this dismissal time. Plans are being made by the lone P. T. A. to have a special reception for the teachers of ,th? lone school district, Friday Sept. 9 at 8:00 p. m., in the cafetorium.
